“An amazing holiday”

Tropikist Beach

Jul 17, 2008

After arriving at the Tropikist it took us only 1 minute to fall in love with the place. We walked to the hotel from the airport, it took only 5 minutes. After checking in we were shown to our room which was lovely. We had a basic room and were all inclusive. The view from the balcony was over the pool and onto the sea and we thought we had the best view in the hotel. It was spacious and clean and the shower was huge, enough room for 4 people. After dumping our bags we headed for the bar where we met Ali who makes the best cocktails in the world. He is a very friendly guy with a fab sense of humour and works very hard to keep everybody happy with their drink glasses full. He was training some of the female staff to make drinks and was making a good job of it. The bar, restaurant and pool are lovely, its clean and I could of stared at the scenery all day. The beach was also very nice, unfortunately you cant swim in the sea there but that wasnt a problem as the pool was fabulous. My husband took me to Tobago for our first wedding anniversary, I forgot to take his card and asked the hotel manager, Mr Samaroo where I could buy one. He pointed me in the right direction and I thought no more of it. After a day out we arrived at our room to find it beautifully decorated with flowers, our towels were artistically shaped into swans and we had a brilliant bottle of wine too, its made from horny goat weed and is an aphrodisiac. We thought it was a really nice gesture and it made us feel special. Also one night as we went to the restaurant we had a phone call to say that turtles were laying their eggs so we couldnt stay for dinner but on arrival back at our room our dinner was in there waiting for us! Very thoughtful although Mr Samaroo was concerned was it wascold, but hey, youre in the caribbean stick it on the balcony for 5 minjutes and its warm again! We found the hotel staff very friendly and professional with a laid back caribbean feel to it. Even on the walk back to the airport a car full of the hotel staff were beeping and waving us off. The service wasnt slow it was Tobago time. Whenever we wanted advice or anything in general Mr Samaroo was a star, I can honestly say he is one of the most helpful guys you could ever meet. We were also lucky in the fact that the other guests staying at the Tropikist were happy and were enjoying there stay as much as we were, especially Anna and David. Theres no way I can apologise for our rowdiness after a few drinks in the daytime! We would love to go back to Tobago, we didnt find it touristy and didint get hassled by anyone. If we do it would definately be the Tropikist, we got our moneys worth and so much more. Our holiday was amazing and so much fun and we cant thank all the staff at the Tropikist enough, they made our stay perfect. We wish them all the luck in the world.

“MANNERS MAKETH MAN!”

Tropikist Beach

2 of 5 stars
south trinidad
Jul 16, 2008

Tropikist Hotel is , overall, a ' fair -to- fine ' hotel . but of course this is with one OVEREACHING exception. one word, !STAFF! In my own experience, i visited this hotel on Saturday, 12th July 2008. but as a rsident of the sister isle , Trinidad, i was astonished by the way my friends and myself were treated. not to mention, there were 12 of us so we gave the hotel a good raise.

pool- the pool is beautiful and decked out with a broad spectrum in lush landscape. unfortunatrly, it is ever so often dirty, the filters are clogged and with heavy downpour, it overflows into the restaurant
.
breakfast- the most tasteless, water-washed food in the universe. we took the all inclusive package but it's really not a buffet if have to munch on the same "hospital food" every... single... day!

lunch- the fried chicken has no salt and it is stiff and tastes like the exact couterfeit of a card-board box. one day i even saw fruit flies! DEAD FRUIT FLIES IN MY SALAD!

dinner- the ambience was pretty okay but once you are a little late for dinner, the kitchen manager literally scolds you. and again, the waitresses are TOTALY ILL- MANNERED AND INHOSPITABLE. My friend ordered a coke but as the waitress wrote it down, she changed her mind and ordered an orange juice and the waitress steupsed at her and walked away!

towels- two of my friends brought their kids ( ages 7& 8) at the pool, but since it was raining, the pool towels were soaked so one of my colleages went to the front desk to sign for new towels. the receptionist said they were only allowed 4 towels per day! the children were COLD and shivering in the restaurant because of those IMBECILES they call staff.

WHEN THE PLACE IS RAINING- the ground is wet and slippery. RETIREES are advised not to visit this hotel. i slipped and fell and i suffer from scoliosis. i could have broken my neck,
in conclusion, i think Tropikist Beach Hotel, shows absolutely

NO HOSPITALITY TOWARDS IT'S GUESTS...I PROMISE NEVER TO RETURN TO THIS HELL-HOSE OR TELL MY FRIENDS ABOUT

“Excellent value for money”

Tropikist Beach

5 of 5 stars
Bedfordshire
Jul 11, 2008

I have just returned from a 1 week stay with my husband at the Tropikist Hotel in Tobago. It was excellent value for money.

We stayed on a bed and breakfast basis. The breakfast was pleasant with toast, cereal, fruit, eggs, omlettes, beans, bacon ,sausage etc and local fayre available to choose from which in my opinion is more than adequate. Tea, coffee (instant coffee, I note that a few people have been griping about this!!) and juice.
We didn't have lunch or dinner in the hotel so I can't comment on this. I prefer to be out and about.

The room was really nice with an amazing view and we enjoyed many sunsets from the balcony. We stayed in the new block and all the rooms enjoy a prefect view. It was a pleasure to wake up to every morning. The rooms have a hair dryer and iron, but no tea/coffee making facilities, however, they did provide me with a kettle for my early morning cuppa.

The pool and gardens are well maintained and there were plenty of sunbeds. The nearest beach is Store Bay (which was busy with tourists and boat trips) so I would recommend if you enjoy peace and quiet to hire a car and drive up the west coast of the island to enjoy the best beaches which you can have all to yourself. We hired a car from Whatty -ask for his number at the hotel reception. Petrol is cheap and you can explore the island, it is stunning. Don't miss the Argyle Waterfalls.

Trinidad is only a 15-20 min flight from Tobago, so we hopped on a plane and popped over for a visit. Whatty recommeded a guide, Robert, who took us around to see the highlights,he was fabulous, a really lovely chap and Trinidad has sooo much to offer it was breathtaking, the mountains, beaches and countryside. You can see the development and almost feel the energy of the place.Don't be deterred by the crime, we really enjoyed it.

When you arrive at Crown Point airport, the hotel is literally a 10 min stroll away, so don't waste your money on a taxi. Walk out of Arrivals, straight down the road and turn left onto Store Bay Local road. Follow the road round and the hotel is on the right, you can't miss it!

We really enjoyed Tobago and the hotel is nice but don't expect a 5 star resort and spa, and appreciate that it is an intimate 3 star hotel.

“bad reviews put to rest!”

Tropikist Beach

Jul 10, 2008

AFTER I READ ALL THE TACKY REVIEWS OF TROPIKIST I MUST SAY TO THEM; R.I.P.
MY HUSBAND AND I CELEBRATED OUR 5TH ANNIVERSAY AT THE HOTEL THIS PAST WEEKEND,AND I MUST SAY IT WAS AN ENJOYABLE ONE.
Checking in was a breeze with the efficient well organised staff. We did the all -inclusive plan, and I must say it was worth every penny. We recieved a double upgrade to a deluxe room,a king size bed, large bath and the view was breath taking.
There are no complaints on the resturant staff or the food, neither is ther any for the housekeeping or the bartenders.
Please to everyone who is considering a stay at Tropikist ,just go with an open mind .It's a 3 star hotel, this we know, but the service ,staff and atmosphere makes it feel as though your staying at a 5 star hotel. Please enjoy your stay, we sure did and and hope to return soon!! THANKS TO THE STAFF OF THE TROPIKIST HOTEL(SHIVANI,MR.SAMAROO AND THE BREAKFAST CHEF).

“Loved it!”

On arrival, I was shown to my De Luxe ocean view room - WOW! Huge bed, and really big room, two armchairs, table, dressing table.Large bathroom with bath and shower. No hairdryer, iron or safe. I went to reception, and they sorted my hair dryer really quickly. Anyway - who needs to iron in paradise?

I could lie in bed and watch the pelicans dive bombing for food - just magical. Daily room service with fresh towels.

Breakfast was great (we were on B and B), Freshly cooked eggs, omelettes; there was scrambled egg, sausages, bacon, beans, pancakes and maple syrup, lovely breads, marmalade and jams, cereals, fresh fruit, orange juice. Who could need more? Tea and coffee (you need to wait for the red light on the urn becaus that's when the water is hot! We were laughing at people copmplaining that the tea was cold - they needed to wait for the hot water!!!

Lovely beach walk from the Tropikist - but a non bathing beach. Lovely soft sand to sit on though. Swimming pools are lovely.

Expensive to eat anywhere - we were paying on average £30 - £40 per evening meal of 2 courses - wine £20 - £30 a bottle ! But lunches can be great fun on the beach - crab and dumplings, Roti, flying fish sandwiches - all delicious and fun.

Tobago time is very SLOW - you have to relax into it and not expect people to run about after your every request!

I loved the hotel. The staff were welcolming, breakfast great, and my room super.

I had a really, really happy holiday.
