My husband and I travelled to Tobago this year for carnival (2006). We've travelled all over the world and have stayed at luxury hotels and villas throughout. We prefer staying in villas because of the privacy and comfort. So when we chose The Palm Villa, we thought we were getting a servicable facility with daily housekeeping. The property is beautiful. Our villa was quite adequate, but the staff and service sucked during carnival!
Transportation to and from the airport is provided, but just be sure to inform the staff of how many bags and the size of the bags you will be bringing. They picked us up in a very small older model Toyota Corolla. Luckily my husband and I travel light and are not big people.
Because carnival was going on, I guess the staff decided they didn't need to work because they were missing in action during carnival. We had to call them on their cell phones to get extra towels, get our villa cleaned, and to follow up on activities they were coordinating for us. However, we did run in to the staff dancing in the streets of Tobago when they should have been cleaning our villas. Oh, and when they did come to clean the villas, they started washing the laundry (sheets, towels, and other facility linens) but we had to put the laundry in the dryer and take them out--that is if we wanted to wash our own personal items. Wow, travelled all that way to do laundry...go figure! By the way, I'm still waiting on them to call me back with regards to our day trip to Trinidad.
Phone calls. There is a charge for local calls but this is not noted anywhere in their brochures or posted in the villas. After clearing a discrepancy with regards to our final bill, the owner and the staff of the Villa made insulting comments about Americans, and how they like to sue. Now, how questioning charges on our bill can lead someone to make such unfounded accusations has still escaped me today. The attitude of The Palm Villa Resort is very much anti-American.
The Palm Villa offers internet connection, but don't count on it working. We did not have internet access for 5 of the 7 days we were there and they were not in a big hurry to get it up and running. This was a big problem since we made it very clear months before we arrived that we had to be able to access the internet.
My husband and I will return to Tobago. We love the island but we will be staying elsewhere next time where the customer is treated with respect and the facility provides the service it advertises and offers.
Despite the service, The Palm Villa Resort would have been a great place to vacation for those that like privacy. Other than that, the food in Tobago is great and the island is a dream.
