This was an excellent place to stay! I am fairly picky about cleanliness and prefer privacy. One of the things I hate about many hotels is that you can hear everyone running down the halls and partying all night long when you want to sleep. We stayed in building A in A6. This is condo style, not hotel style. If you want a concierge this may not be your place, but you could always ask Norma, the housekeeper. She was very friendly and gave us several very helpful and correct tips. All you have to do is ask. I would have to say that after visiting most of the recommended beaches on the island, that Sapphire beach where these condos sit is close to the best, if not the best. It has it all, soft sand and snorkeling. The waves are small so children can easily play on the shore. We saw barracuda, sea turtles, and many other fish right in Sapphire. If you want stretches of sand you can visit the other beaches. Horizon sailboats can take you on a day sail snorkeling which leaves right from Sapphire. Crystal Cove is also close to Red Hook, a two minute drive to the ferry to the other islands and grocery store. Dave Paresky, the owner, was easy to work with. If you want someone waiting on your every desire, this may not be your place, but if you like the privacy and quiet with all the other perks, I would recommend this. We checked out the Wyndham Sugar Bay and the Ritz Carlton. You may get some extra amenities, which I personally don't think are worth it, and their beaches do not beat Saphhire's beach. We bought food at the local market as food is quite expensive at most restaurants on the island. You have your own washer and dryer in your unit. We had a king size comfortable bed. We also checked out the Marriott and still preferred Crystal Cove. The other hotels have pools, but who in the world wants to swim in a pool when you have a beach??? The pools didn't look appealing to me at all after having snorkeled and swam in Sapphire. I personally think you are wasting your money if you go elsewhere. I slept well and played hard and I'm two days post vacation and already want to be back. If I had a complaint it would only be that the outer screen doors would bang if the wind was blowing. This, however, was easily fixed by just putting a chair against them when we went to sleep. It wasn't that bothersome and easily remedied. Norma gave us excellent advice regarding where to visit, how to clean our seashells, how to catch the ferry, and what we would have to do on our return flight. All of her advice came in handy. Some recommendations -- rent a dingy from Noah's Ark on St. John and go snorkeling. They will give you a map of the various places to go. Eat at Duffy's Love Shack, not so much for the food but for the spirits. Sundays are mellow days on the island so don't expect too much to happen on Sunday. Go to Duffy's Thurs - Sat. Also on Wednesdays from 5-9 the Point Pleasant tram is free. It has a spectacular view of Charlotte Amalie. The food and service are not spectacular so don't expect much there, but the band and the ambiance is great! Get there early or else you will have to stand and wait for a table. Also right in Havensight across from the mall area is a pizza place called Pizza Amorie. Fantastic pizza! It really is some of the best I've tasted, worth the drive from crystal cove. Take the back road when going into town. The back road is the one that would take you by Iggie's, the Marriott, Bolongo Bay, etc. It is much faster during rush hour. There is not as much traffic and you may get stuck going the other way if you hit rush hour. Rent from Budget if you want to take a car to St. John. Hertz will not allow you to take the car on the Ferry. Arrive early for the Ferry, 1/2 hour or more in the morning and plan on catching the 3:00 back to St. Thomas, otherwise you risk missing the Ferry back because everyone rushes to catch the last few Ferrys. It may take you 1 1/2 hours to get on the Ferry back and if you miss the final one, you will sleep in St. John, (most likely in your car). Craig and Sally's is good but way overrated. You will pay anywhere from $20 to $30 a plate and while it is probably the classiest place on the island, you still don't get much for your money. Save your $ for an expensive restaurant in the states. I didn't think it was worth it for the drive or the food. Maybe I'm a cheapskate, but if I'm paying $20 for my plate, I think I should get unlimited bread, ha ha! You will pay for everything you get. Our sparkling water cost us a mere $45 for six people. Yes, I said water. If you want a better substitute, go to Molly Molones. It's a little cheaper and the food was great. They make a great filet mignon and the waiters were more down to earth. Iggie's has something going on every night. Call to see what they are doing. We went to Karaoke night. It was fun, the food was average, waiters/waitresses were very good. What more can I say? I loved the island.
