“Rooster, chickens, and other kinds of critters”

Windward Passage Holiday Inn

May 17, 2008

This was a miserable experience. Our rooms overlooked a shanty with chickens and roosters...a lovely way to wake up on vacation I might say.

I found the staff extremely rude aside from the restaurant staff. It was almost as if we were bothering them. One front desk employee got in a personal fight with another guest while were we waiting in the lobby.

The water stopped running twice while we were there. When I called down to the front desk mid-shower the person on the other end seems aggrivated with me!

Lastly--it took seveal calls down to the desk and about 24 hours to get a crib for my son so he winded up sleeping in the bed with us for the 1st night.

Stay away from this place if you want to relax and unwind. I came home more stressed out than when I left. Not only will I not go to this hotel again--I will not return to St. Thomas!

Having lived in the Caribbean all my life, one thing that i have grown accustomed to are the roosters, chickens and all the other critters that come with the territory. So far we haven't been able to do anything much about the rooster although some guests have came up with some interesting fixes in the past. What I can tell you is that one of the upgrades the hotel is getting as part of the renovations we have been undergoing, is the installation of new sound proof windows for all of our rooms, We're also going to be giving the rooms along with the rest of the facility a much needed facelift, complete with new plumbing. We have made several improvements not only to our facility but to our staff as well. Im am sorry that you had some difficulties during your stay but we are taking your review into consideration and working earnestly to improve our standards.

Hard to believe it is a Holiday Inn!
Stayed here twice due to reservations already booked.
First time was great- had a water view.
Second time- got to see the alley and roof tops- not so nice.
Restaurant was expensive and service was horrible. Staff would rather talk on cell phone than serve you. Walk to Glady's for breakfast or the Greenhouse for dinner!
Walk right by the gift shop too. Very expensive junk that has been sitting around a while.
Front desk staff, bellmen and gate guards were all pleasant.
Saw a lot of airline folks here.
Rooms were tired and really needed a facelift.
Had to call maintenance twice to finally get service for our non working tv.
Kids liked the pool.
Location was great for us- walking distance to carnival.

If it is any conselation We did notice that we had a problem with employees using cell phones and ipods etc during working hours. We have since sent out memos prohibiting the use of personal cell phones on premises since it takes away from the employees ability to adequately serve the customer. Those employees who we did find in violation are no longer with us. I do appreciate you pointing this out because it is a growing problem that employers are facing all over the world. Guest do undoubtedly prefer our Ocean View Rooms and I usually encourage anyone who can, to go for the upgrade if a Ocean View is availabe. Its just worth it. However our non-Ocean View Rooms are also very nice, and getting better. All of our rooms are being renovated to take on a fresher more modern look. We're also getting new linens and new soundproof windows to help with those roosters and the hustle and bustle of downtown traffic. Our downtown location is perfect for shopping, and business travel although any and everyone is welcomed.

We spent 2 nights at the hotel prior to boarding the Seabourn Legend. We chose the hotel because it was relatively inexpensive for the short time we would be there and because it was convenient to the boarding dock for the Legend, the shopping downtown and the restaurants in Frenchtown. (The Oceana Restaurant in Frenchtown is superb.) I do not recommend the hotel's restaurant. The staff is slow and not particularly friendly.

Our room was clean but antiquated. It was obvious that the hotel was being renovated by the hammering and drilling sounds that literally shook the room. Fortunately, the construction noises usually ended around dark. Unfortunately, that's when the "music" began. Our room was on the 4th floor facing the baseball park next door. While we were there, the ball park was the venue for a "music" festival. Although the bands were one block away with their speakers pointing away from us, they still rocked our room. There is some disagreement as to how long the noise lasted. Some in our party think that it lasted until 3:00 am. I became comatose at 1:30 am and it was still blasting at that time.

I would only recommend the hotel to those with severe hearing problems who enjoy being "rocked" to sleep by a BOOM BOX. Despite the cost and convenience factors, we will look elsewhere next time.

PS: The next time we leave St. Thomas, we will check to see if the major cruise lines are in port disembarking thousands of passengers who all head for the airport. We left on Sunday March 30th and encountered thousands of people at the small airport.

    • Liked — It had a roof, 4 walls and a bed. It was also close to great restaurants in Frenchtown
    • Disliked — The incessent noise from the nearby baseball park/"music" festival.

“Good value. Convenient for business.”

Windward Passage Holiday Inn

Apr 7, 2008

Was not that exicted to stay here, but actually for business its a great property. Its not on the beach, but is on the waterfront where you can walk all the way into town with no problem, right on the bay. Ask for a water view. Rooms are large and renovated. (My only negative was that the bathroom floor was not thoroughly clean.) However, don't think twice about staying here as the service was very friendly, free wireless worked great and is literally 5 minutes from the airport. There is a small restaurant (with no windows) but adequate for breakfast. In the evening there is tasteful live local music in the atrium where the restaurant serves under umbrellas. If not in the summer, when its very hot, the atrium dining area is quite relaxing. If you want a convenient walk to a terrific restaurant, go to Frenchtown about 1/2 mile walk from the hotel where there is a wonderful Bella Blue restaurant, wonderful wines, very reasonable prices and great food. I would eat there every night. On your walk back you may catch a baseball/softball game with local teams right next door to the Holiday Inn. Watch the taxi rates - they will take advantage if given the opportunity. The local guidebooks show you what rates the taxis should charge.

Musty, smelly room. Had dinner downtown -- on the walk back, noticed that one block from the hotel appears to be hooker alley -- no exaggeration. Will never stay here again, there are so many better options.
