“A lovely stay”

The Crystal Palace

5 of 5 stars

If you're looking for a pleasant, easy, non-commercial place to stay that still boasts lots of charm and character, then Crystal Palace is the spot!

My girlfriend and I spent 3 nights there and loved it. Location is convenient to town whether you have a car or not (I'd recommend getting a car if you plan to tour the island). The house/rooms are full of charm, blending you in with the history of the place rather than being just a modern, sterile room in some fancy resort.

Ronnie, the owner, is easy-going, very helpful, and best of all knows all the places and people worth knowing on the island -- was born and raised there so you can't go wrong asking him for pointers. We did, and were glad we did!

Room rates are totally respectable. You might even get to chat with local "Auntie", whose famous rum cakes are phenomenal. Oh, and lest I forget Benji the black lab who just loooooves fetching those toys!

Overall, I recommend staying here and will certainly stay again if I'm back on the island.

My wife and I stayed here on the tail end of our honeymoon and we really wish we had spent more time here, 3 nights was not enough! Ronnie was nothing short of fantastic, he really made it seem like we we're staying with an old friend. We would cap off our nights with a drink from the honor bar on the patio that overlooks Charlotte Amalie. Ronnie is very knowledgeable on the area having lived there his whole life and will recommend places to eat, see etc... He may even give you transportation if you are lucky and he is going your way. The house is historic and has many antiques within its walls. I spent quite some time when we got here just looking around at all the old pieces featured in the house.

To sum it up, fantastic city, great inn owner who will make you feel like family, amazing house in a great location you can walk to many attractions and downtown. You cannot go wrong staying at Crystal Palace, we are already planning our next trip.

“Crystal Gem, Service Standout”

The Crystal Palace

5 of 5 stars
McLean, VA
Jul 1, 2008

This historical B&B is beautiful and comfortable, but what makes it standout is the service. Traveling with my daughters, 11 and 16, and my lady, we were greeted at the airport by our driver and driven to our rental car company. He waited while I signed the paper work and we followed him to the Crystal Palace. It is down a short private drive with plenty of secure parking.

Walking through the gate we were greeted by the parakeets, tortoises and Benji, the resident Labrador Retriever. Benji was quite a hit with my daughters and they played with him while went inside to get our room keys. The sitting room and dining room are very dramatic and decorated with comfortable period furniture.

The bedrooms were down a curved staircase in a cool lower level. We chose two rooms with a shared bath. The rooms were very large and the beds comfortable. There was a/c in each bedroom, but the fans were enough to keep us cool all night long.

The best thing about the Crystal Palace, for us, was sitting on the verandah and watching the ferries, boats and seaplanes come and go in the afternoon sun while sipping on our complimentary drink from the honor bar. After dinner we enjoyed the same view with the twinkling lights of the harbor. Breakfast in the morning was the same view with the complimentary breakfast. This was all accompanied by commentary from our host Ronnie regarding the current goings on of the VI Government, his historic restoration projects and the news from the St. John Rotary.

This was a perfect first night in the islands that let us get into island time rather than rush around in taxis and ferries. A new favorite spot for us, and it’s a bargain.

“Great little B&B in St. Thomas”

The Crystal Palace

4 of 5 stars
Birmingham, AL
Jun 30, 2008

Ron, the innkeeper, is a great host! The room was clean and the bathroom was clean. The B&B is really lovely with a good view, probably the best in Charlotte Amalie. There is easy access to the ferry in Charlotte Amalie as well as the shopping district. The B&B is quiet. Jackie was a great taxi driver as well as the "love cab." Jackie picked us up and took us whereever we needed to go.

Ron picked us up at the airport. We certainly enjoyed our trip. I've been to St. Thomas several other times, and for the money, this was certainly the nicest place that I've stayed. You can watch the ships come in the harbor, and you can see one of the oldest ongoing synagogues in the world.

This is a great place to stay! I highly recommend it and you will be glad if you stay at the Crystal Palace B&B!

Small family owned and run hotel located in private home. Full of antique furniture and decor. Large airy rooms; excellent view from balcony overlooking harbour. Close to shopping, restaurants, old historical center, and ferry dock.
