The El Greco offers good deal for hotels in Nassau:
The location is great: Getting around has no problems: it is in the heart of downtown Nassau, you can walk to the ferry dock to Paradise Island (5 min). Or taking a public bus right at the door to Cable beach, which costs only 1 dollar. If you need a taxi, it is also ever so easy! One bonus point, the hotel is not right in the shopping zone, and a public beach is right across the street, so it’s mostly is nice and quiet.
The service is great: the owner/manager is lovely, and is very helpful to her guests. Well, every staff in the hotel is nice and friendly. The hotel has 24-hour front desk service and a security guard as well. So you feel safe in the hotel.
The Price: The price is good, with no hidden prices: it includes all taxes, free telephone calls to the US and Canada (this, however, I never tried) and local calls. Continental breakfast, which is nice and fresh.
The rooms: Some rooms are better than the others. Good ones are pretty good. I wish there is a fan in the bathroom though. The humidity can be troublsome.
And the restaurant next door is GREAT! It offers great local food, great service, with reasonable price. I mean, no restaurants in Nassau is cheap, but the food there is far better than Poop Deck, or Senor Frogs, for example, and has great atmosphere. Also, the portion of food is huge! So you can share with a friend. Don’t forget the happy hours! Not having to take a taxi to a restaurant can save you a lot of money!
The only complain I have is the noise caused by other guests: The rooms are squared around the pool and lounge area, so when some rotten kids jumped into the pool and screamed for the first two nights when we were there, it felt the kids were screaming right to my face and woke me up. And the parents said “I am going to the room now, so just shout out to me when you need me.” That was 11:00 pm! I complained to the front desk and they tried to calm the kids down, did not really help. I feel bad for the front desk guy, he can’t do much. The parents themselves got no manner, how do you expect good behavior from the kids? And the next night, we got a group of 12 people, who decided to have a party right there. Wow, I felt being part of the party while lying on my bed. Turning up the volume of my TV does nothing to burry the noise. Thankfully, after the security guard told them to keep it low, they stopped and went out. I don’t think it is the hotel’s fault in either situation, but the settings of the hotel may “prompted” stupid behaviors from these rude people.
People in the Bahamas are very nice and friendly; we never felt being fooled or anyone tried to rip us off. To start it right, you need to find the right hotel. El Greco made our stay pleasant.
