“dreadful grayclliff”

Graycliff Hotel

Before I had stayed at the Graycliff I had heard really mixed reviews. After two nights there I understand why. The colonial house and gardens are charming and I can understand why some visitors may be won over by this but the Graycliff is also one of the worst hotels I have ever visited. The service is shocking – we would routinely wait an hour to get drinks or food and sometimes we felt we were in some kind of comedy sketch surrounded by totally incompetent staff. There was never any hint of management – on one occasion after being served a pot of luke-warm tea we actually went into the kitchens to get hot water ourselves because we couldn’t find anyone to serve us. We were continually ripped off by cab drivers that were booked by the hotel who seemed to charge whatever they wanted for journeys. It’s a real shame that the Graycliff is so dreadful because it could be a really fabulous place – instead it’s shabby and uncared for. The only upside of our stay there was the lovely atmosphere in the evenings where the extremely talented singer and pianist (Tanya I think) plays all evening while guests have drinks pre- and post- dinner. But even she couldn’t make up for the utter disappointment we felt throughout our stay here.

“Perfect spot for 4 day getaway”

Graycliff Hotel

4 day getaway for my girlfriend and I, looking for something unique and away from the Cancun style mega resorts. From the moment we arrived, we knew we had picked a great place. The staff throughout our stay was nothing short of perfect. Every member was helpful and always with a smile. They made our stay extremely enjoyable. Arrived early Thur morning, cab from airport was $25, smooth check in, stayed
in room overlooking the garden & pool, unbelievably beautiful property! Scuba dived 4x's, saw sharks, mantra rays, eagle rays, dove the deep blue hole (200 ft deep, we went to 85 ft) which was quite an experience. Went with Bahama Divers, great staff, very friendly and helpful. Dinners were amazing, Graycliff was pricey but food was unreal. Souffle for dessert was best we've ever had (chocolate & coconut). Dinner next door at brazilian place (Humidor) was good, but wouldn't run back. Apps/drinks at the "Poop deck" after diving one day was one of our fav spots. Dinner at Luciano's downtown was good, location is nice right on the water. Graycliff is walking distance to downtown shopping/restaurants/bars (5 min), provides access to beach via Hilton (3 min) for small fee. Best part was the pool at Graycliff, we spent several hours lying by the pool, ordered lunch and bucket of local Kalik beer (hmmmm), and had the place to ourselves. We never made it over to the mega resorts on paradise island, had no need to given our location. Would highly recommend Graycliff - I know we'll go back.

“Living on its reputation”

Graycliff Hotel

4 of 5 stars

When we arrived at the hotel, we immediately saw peeling paintwork, dirty and frayed carpets in the hallway, and untidy gardens. Our room was attractively decorated, but the layout did not utilise the space at all well - to watch television, you had to lie on the bed, there was nowhere you could sit and read in comfort with adequate lighting, and the bathroom, whilst beautifully tiled, is overdue for a makeover and a proper shower. Whilst we were there, the water pressure was very poor. So we decided to eat out that evening.
When we returned, this drab old lady had been transformed into a most delightful dining venue, so much so, that we stopped and had a couple of drinks in the intriguing lounge where a jazz pianist was performing, and we immediately booked for dinner the following night. At breakfast however, the drab old lady returned, this time acompanied by drab old service and innattentive staff - so poor that the rest of our stay we took breakfast at the excellent Colonial Hilton a five minute walk away. Our dinner lived up to all expectations with one exception for a hotel that has won many awards for their wine cellar - our red wine was served chilled, and our comments invoked an indifferent response.
Our view - go there for a dining experience, but stay elsewhere.

Loved the Graycliff!! We had a very small wedding there and were so happy. The staff was polite and ever so helpful. It is not located directly on the beach but in very close walking distance (about 0.2 miles). The location is not what you would expect, in not too great of an area but the hotel itself is beautiful. This is great for an intimate getaway. We enjoyed it so much we are returning in a few weeks for our 1 year anniversary.

Hi, I just wanted to take a moment to share a few thoughts on an incredible time had at GrayCliff Hotel and Resort...A group of longtime girlfriends got together and had a weekend getaway....We were four woman looking for rest, relaxation and pampering..We found it all at GrayCliiff in Nassau Bahamas..The Hotel Rooms were exquisite, The decorating incredible, and the staff was charming.. The bathrooms were clean which is important for the girls...GrayCliff Rest. as well as the humidor Rest are incredible, with great attention payed to details, it is a step back into old world charm...The menu's are diverse, and the wine list "was as big as the yellow page phone book.".."INCREDIBLE".... The grounds and gardens are beautiful, the pools are tranquil and clean... The location is great, as it is very close to downtown Nassau and shopping as well as the world famous straw market...I highly reccommend this property for any number of reasons...a wedding would be incredible here, romance would be at an all time high...Well enjoy your stay.. I know we did, and will again.... Cheers!

Sincerely,

Donna
