We stayed at the Flamingo Bay over the weekend of Feb 1st, 2009. Its pretty much a motel but the rooms and property were kept very clean so it wasnt creepy or gross. Thankfully the floors are tiled so thats a lot easier to clean and no need to worry about carpet germs. Yes, it took forever to check in. People are really laid back and if you seem rushed they look at you like "what's your problem". LOL. But what can you expect you know? Anyways, so we checked in and had to go through the inventory. I was fine with this since i didnt want any "surprise" charges later on. I liked that this motel was away from hustle and bustle. The pool across the street was nice and clean, then you have the beautiful beach. If we wanted the beach we just crossed the street to the Taino. If we wanted to go into town, we went right down stairs to take the ferry to Port Lucaya. It was a nice clean, breezy and tranquil little boat trip (about 10 minute ride) to the Pt. I personally looked forward to this ferry ride as we rode through the channels and got to see nice yachts and waterfront homes.
Regarding the time share hassle, YOU WILL GET APPROACHED. We agreed to go on a timeshare tour for two reasons, so the lady can stop harassing us and to get a free breakfast and free bonfire tickets offered at the Taino. I feel it was totally worth it. Granted we wasted a couple of hours with the time share dude (bless his heart, he did try) but we got to eat a full buffet breakfast at the Taino Restaurant (with the best coconut french toast ever!) and we got two free tix to the bonfire which are worth $50 bucks each (btw, we wouldnt have felt it was worth teh money if we had paid for it).
At Pt. Lucaya there is a cute little marketplace you can souvenir shop in. Nothing spectacular. There are also great little bars with good drink specials and regular bar food. We ate at the pub and it was good. For dinner one night you MUST check out the Ferry House. Its Zagat rated as the best restaurant on the island and I agree. Must make reservations and prepare to enjoy amazing food and the best coconut fried cheesecake ever!
P.S. TIP: PLEASE TAKE INSECT REPELLENT. I GOT OVER 50 MOSQUITO BITES and suffered majorly for two weeks after returning. :(
