I stayed at Sammy T's from 6/30/07-7/7/07.
It was the best vacation I have ever had. And I have been on many, many vacations.
The weather was perfect - sunshine every day.
The beach was perfect. I had read review after review stating that I would be "the only one on the beach" and - I was!
The peace I experienced was like no other. It was a total absence of the world.
I am female and went there by myself. I felt completely safe the entire time I was there.
The bungalows are great. I was in #5 and it was the perfect size for one or two people. Refrigerator, microwave, enough plates, glasses and flatware for two. TV for DVD's. No phone.
Lots of lizards. Really cute and harmless. Ask George for a tour of the gardens. He is a wealth of knowledge.
The bedroom was air conditioned, a blessing as it is quite warm. But if you are out in the heat you don't notice how hot it is until you come out of the air conditioning.
Take sun block. 30spf usually does it for me but I could have used 50.
Take insect repellent if you are out after sunset. It is a must.
Sammy is the best. Carnetta, George, Andrew and the rest of the staff are amazing. If you need anything, just ask.
The food is the best I have ever had. The broiled grouper, baked parmesan grouper, fried battered conch and the lobsters are incredible. The pigeon peas and grits are amazing sides. Thank you Carnetta and kitchen staff!
I am hungry for it right now - yum!!!
The staff will find you if you have not given your evening meal order by 3pm.
I only ate the evening meal. It ran me about $33 with a glass or two of wine. A great price for the delicious meals. The menu is verbal. I never asked about prices.
I took snacks for breakfast and lunch as well as coffee.
Stop and buy water on your way to the resort. The island water is salty. (Drink lots of water.)
If Danny is your airport pick-up, he will tell you all you need to know. He is a super guy.
Sammy has kayaks, floaties, snorkel gear, DVD’s and bicycles.
Take a bike ride to Arthur's Town and points north. It is a great way to see the island and visit with the locals who are very gracious.
The grocery store north of Arthur’s Town in Orange Creek has the biggest selection.
Rent a car for a day and go see the Hermitage. It is very inspiring.
The Pacific side of the island is desolate and has a rugged beauty but you don't have to go there to feel like you have visited the island
I visited a couple of other resorts while I was there but Sammy's surpasses them all.
There are a few things to do on Cat Island like fish, snorkel and
Scuba.
Do not expect nightlife, casinos or other worldly things.
To me Cat Island is about peace and relaxation.
I spent most of my time on Sammy's Beach. I did not need to go anywhere else.
Everything I needed was right there.
I never tired of watching the waves or listening to the surf.
But that is all I wanted to do.
I would recommend Sammy T's for anyone who needs total peace, relaxation, great food and a wonderful staff.
Oh, take some doggie treats for Rusty and Kaluha.
Thank you Sammy. I hope to return.
