“Relaxing respite from the world at Danzante”

Danzante

If you are looking to get away from it all while enjoying excellent food and amazing views, then look no farther than Danzante. Hosts Michael and Lauren are reason enough to book a stay -- the first people to chart all the scuba diving spots in Baja, their stories will keep you laughing and gasping in awe night after night. Danzante offers lots of activities from whale watching to sea kaying to boating to hiking. Or, opt to pass the time resting in your bungalow's hammock, gazing at the Sea of Cortez. A nightly happy hour featuring beer, margaritas and chips and homemade salsa allow you to get to know the other guests (keep in mind, this is like a fancy summer camp in that you dine together and with just nine bungalows, it's an intimate experience as far as spending time with others). A few of the women from the village serve as chefs and the food was plentiful and amazing. The one review that said there was little choice wasn't totally correct. Breakfast featured many options, and when I suffered a little stomach upset, Lauren made sure I had homemade soup to eat. I would highly recommend driving the hour and a half to see the grey whales if you are down between January and April...also, do rent a car if you want to go off the property and check out Lareto or go whale watching. You can certainly take a taxi, but it's nice to have the freedom to do what you want. This property is not for those who like to dress up and go out; there is no TV or Internet (yay!); and leave the blowdryers, make up, jewelry, etc. at home. You will find the other guests to be down to earth, and no one cares what you do in your "other" life. Prepare to disengage and reconnect with nature and your significant other.

my wife and I spent 3 days at Danzante over Christmas and loved it... the family style meals were great and they had some of the best tortillas I have ever eaten and being from Texas- I know tortillas! it was great to talk with the other guests each evening before we gathered for dinner and hear and share travel stories... hiking is good- go on a canyon tour with Jorge... hr is great! So much more enjoyable and relaxing than a generic stay at an all inclusive in Cabo or Cancun-

“Outstanding!”

The two of us had a five day stay at Danzante. Everything was outstanding. The rooms and views make you melt into relaxation, and then there is the food (included in the room price) and activities.

The rooms (only 9) have two decks, one with a mountain view the other overlooking an island-filled bay in the Sea of Cortez. The furnishings are simple with a king-sized bed, simple couch and table. Shelves and a rack are for clothes and other articles. Very nice sized walk-in shower and the bath mirror opens into a mountain view window when not in use. The views and temperature just make you want to be outside looking at the islands.

Every evening has a happpy hour with margaritas and sodas, followed by the freshest ingredient dinner (fish caught that day etc).

Mornings include a breakast special, a modified omlette bar, local pan (Mexican sweet rolls) and loads of fresh fruit.

Lunch is usually a fresh soup or another Mexican dish (empanadas etc.) made from fresh ingredients. All the meals were very tasty!

There are numerous activities available, most with a modest cost. They include naturalist-led hikes, safari at sea, a day on one of the islands, scuba diving, snorkling and sea kayaking. The snorkling and kayaks are free to use at anytime. I recommend the Tecomaja hike (a $10p/p hike up a water-rich canyon with palms and wild fig trees) and the marine safari ($30p/p).

my wife and i arrived at loreto airport after flying there in our own plane on 10/15 and were met by nothing but friendly, helpful people. when we got to the danzante resort, which is about a 25 mile drive, i went to pull my passport holder where i also had $1100 in cash to pay the taxi driver and it was gone! after settling down i told the taxi driver if he could retrace our steps and bring back the passport i'd give him $100. while still fuming at dinner the taxi driver and the immigration official that gave us our visas walked in w/ my passport and all $1100 still in tact!!! i had apparently left it on a suitcase at immigration and it fell on the floor where the official found it and kept it for my return. how's that for friendly, honest service? i was then able to fully enjoy my lobster dinner! all the food at danzante was excellent and plentiful. mike and lauren farley are superb hosts and their staff is friendly and very competent. my wife did her open water scuba certification dives there and we went on several wonderful dives together with carlos, the divemaster who was very competent, and jorge the panga driver who was always happy and entertaining. the rooms have incredible views and r comfortably furnished and appointed.

“Perfect Honeymoon”

What a wonderful week! After the craziness of planning a wedding twice (don't ask!) and starting a new job, I was ready for rest and relaxation. Danzante is the PERFECT place to do it. Desert on one side, and beach on the other side, it was a dream honeymoon for me.

There is something for everyone here, and I would (will, I hope) go back in a heartbeat.
