If you are looking to get away from it all while enjoying excellent food and amazing views, then look no farther than Danzante. Hosts Michael and Lauren are reason enough to book a stay -- the first people to chart all the scuba diving spots in Baja, their stories will keep you laughing and gasping in awe night after night. Danzante offers lots of activities from whale watching to sea kaying to boating to hiking. Or, opt to pass the time resting in your bungalow's hammock, gazing at the Sea of Cortez. A nightly happy hour featuring beer, margaritas and chips and homemade salsa allow you to get to know the other guests (keep in mind, this is like a fancy summer camp in that you dine together and with just nine bungalows, it's an intimate experience as far as spending time with others). A few of the women from the village serve as chefs and the food was plentiful and amazing. The one review that said there was little choice wasn't totally correct. Breakfast featured many options, and when I suffered a little stomach upset, Lauren made sure I had homemade soup to eat. I would highly recommend driving the hour and a half to see the grey whales if you are down between January and April...also, do rent a car if you want to go off the property and check out Lareto or go whale watching. You can certainly take a taxi, but it's nice to have the freedom to do what you want. This property is not for those who like to dress up and go out; there is no TV or Internet (yay!); and leave the blowdryers, make up, jewelry, etc. at home. You will find the other guests to be down to earth, and no one cares what you do in your "other" life. Prepare to disengage and reconnect with nature and your significant other.
