“Great place with wonderful hosts!”

La Damiana Inn

5 of 5 stars
Whitehorse
Feb 24, 2008

What a wonderful place to settle in to! We stayed for a couple of days on either side of a kayak trip. We were made to feel completely at home - had full use of the great outdoor kitchen, left luggage during our kayak trip and given tastes of all sorts of mexican culinary delights! Highly recommended for their delightful hospitality and fine accommodations.

“New Year in Loreto”

La Damiana Inn

5 of 5 stars
Bay Area CA
Feb 24, 2008

We felt so lucky to have found La Damiana to stay in for our first trip to Loreto. We spent 7 nights there and used the inn as a base while exploring this beautiful area. Debora and Gerardo were excellent hosts and run a homey, thoroughly Mexican inn. The location is perfect for getting around the city; no car needed, and being met by Oscar the dog each day when we returned was a treat. Because we were there over the New Year's holiday, there were very few restaurants open, so Debora and Gerardo planned a Mexican feast of fresh bbq'd fish, ceviche, rice, salad, guacamole, salsa, and wine for the entire inn. Everyone helped or donated to the meal in some way; with the meal prepared in the open air kitchen and served in the large dining room with the doors thrown open. It was a communal meal for 12 with guests from all over the U.S. What a special way to begin the New Year.
We won't stay anywhere else as we plan to return again and hopefully often. BTW- the price is extrememely reasonable.
When you go to Loreto, don't miss the John Ramos Gallery right on the plaza. His colorful prints will remind you of your trip to Baja.

“Loved the La Damiana Inn”

La Damiana Inn

5 of 5 stars
Whitehorse, Canada
Feb 19, 2008

I have just returned from a kayaking trip out of Loreto with 3 of my good friends. We stayed at the La Damiana Inn before and after the kayak trip. We had the most wonderful experience I have ever had. Deborah and Gerardo were the most comfortable hosts. They were there to greet us on our arrival, provided us with a lovely Mexican decorated room (2 large beds , bath, and plenty of space to spread out...we had a lot of kayak gear). We had the run of the Inn including a family type room where many guests congregated to use the computer, have coffee, read books. We also had access to the outdoor kitchen and garden area. The kitchen was incredibly useful. We bought a few groceries and almost every time we started to prepare something Gerardo (who is an accomplished chef) appeared and offerred to show us a new Mexican style dish. He taught us how to make "good" guacamole and salsa and then showed us how to make banana tortillas for breakfast...a recipe we took with us on our kayak trip which was a hit. One of my friends really wanted to enjoy a shrimp dinner, so having heard that Gerardo offerred to teach us how to make coconut shrimp on our last nights stay. Needless to say, we had a feast and the dinner was outstanding, as were the accompanying marguarita's.
Although I have had many accomodation experiences while travelling this time I was really compelled to write this review. I had such a great experience and if I get a chance to return to Loreto I would definitely stay at the La Damiana again.

“We Love La Damiana Inn”

La Damiana Inn

5 of 5 stars
Tallahassee, Florida
Feb 16, 2008

Like many of the other reviewers of La Damiana Inn, my wife and I think it is the best deal in town and just spent three wonderful nights there. Never having visited Loreto before, we really didn't know where to stay and luckily we chose (we think) the best place. The Inn is conveniently located to everything in Loreto. The best breakfast place is just across the street at Café Ole, the bank with ATM is just around the corner, the best fish tacos in town are just up Hidalgo street at Mc Lulu’s, and many good restaurants are located close by. The Malecon is a short stroll, some really good ice cream can be found just past the Civic Center on Madero street, and if you are lucky enough to be in town during market, it is a short walk at the other end of Madero street down by the arroyo.
We stayed in the newly redecorated two bedroom suite up stairs with a sitting room and private shower and although we did not need the extra room, we did enjoy being able to "spread out" a bit. This suite, which is located on the corner of the second floor, is sunny and airy, has been trimmed out with local cordon cactus wood, furnished with uniquely hand-made furniture, painted with bright Mexican colors, and has a very comfortable king sized bed in one room and a queen sized bed in the other.
Debora and Orlando are very open and friendly proprietors who gave us much useful information about the town and surrounding areas. There is a very comfortable and causal living area in which to hang out downstairs equipped with a coffee maker, books and magazines, a TV and a computer that can access the internet.
Although we have not stayed in any other hotels or inns in Loreto, we did walk past some of the ones we were considering and were glad we had chosen La Damiana. We had a very pleasant visit, were sorry to leave, and hope we can stay there again next time we visit Loreto.

“Extremely Friendy”

La Damiana Inn

5 of 5 stars
San Francisco, CA

I reserved a room with Debra over email. She was quick to reply and eager to give us information and options. When we arrived the room was lovely, with it's own bathroom. Debra was really friendly and helpful, pointing out nearby restaurants for dinner and getting up at 6:30am to make sure we made it to the taxi stand across the street to get to the airport in time.

When we arrived, the boiler had mysteriously gone out and there was no hot water. Debra was immediately attentive and fixed the problem so 10 minutes later there was water for the shower.

All in all, the place was clean, bright and comfortable. I would highly recommend it.
