I accompanied my husband on a business trip to Monterrey. We booked reservations for the Gran Ancira last minute using suggestions from Trip Advisor when our reservations at another hotel fell through. We were very happy with our stay at the Gran Ancira. We were traveling with our 5-year old daughter and my husband’s colleague. The staff was very nice and many went out of their way to help us with suggestions for restaurants and sightseeing for me and my daughter. The hotel is in a great location within walking distance to many attractions (museums, Macro Plaza, etc.) They have a small outdoor swimming pool which my daughter loved and was great since the weather was very hot (usually 100 F during the day). They also have a very good restaurant in the lobby which offers both buffet and an a la carte menu. I highly recommend the crema de poblano soup (delicious!). Our room was very spacious, clean, and comfortable. I could see how some reviewers think the furnishings are outdated: our furniture, carpet, and bathroom were all newly updated, but the comforter and bed linens were a few years old. Still, the room was fine and we were very happy with it. Our friend who was staying on another floor had a completely newly remodeled room with great new bed with down comforter, etc. So, it may just depend on which floor/room you get. We also choose an “Executive Floor-EP bottler service” option when booking which cost an additional $15. The Executive Floor option means that you should get a room on the “executive” 5th floor (supposedly nicer rooms), free wireless internet, free continental breakfast (cereal, fruit, toast, cheese plate, meat plate, fresh juice, and coffee are available), and cocktail hour (sodas, wine, cocktails, and appetizers). The continental breakfast and cocktail hour take place in a lounge on the executive floor only accessible to those who add this option. We took full advantage of breakfast and cocktail hour. However, all rooms have free high speed internet access (not wireless, cables are provided), and you could always opt for the $119 pesos breakfast buffet that other reviewers on here rave about. So, that could be a good option instead of the “Executive Floor” service if you don’t want to pay the extra money.
