The Sheraton Galerias Monterrey is a brand new high rise hotel.
It sits across the street from Monterrey's premier shopping mall - Galeria Monterrey. The Hotel is connected to the Mall by a private overpass pedestrian walkway (you need a room key card to open the doors in the walkway. Nice touch since crossing the street is dangerous at times).
The hotel has an unmanned business center with two PC connected to broadband internet. These are available to the guests at no charge.
The best thing in the hotel is the breakfast. It is offered in the second floor breakfast room. Drinks included: Coffee, Orange Juice and Milk. Hot items (eggs, chilaquiles, beans, waffles, tortillas, etc.) are offered buffet style; some buffet items change daily so you don't have to eat the same things every day. There also fresh fruit and cold cereals.
The lobby is small and uninviting (weak point) just some modern sofas adequate enough to sit as you wait for your party to pick you up.
The pool and gym are mediocre (WHY!!!!). The pool is maybe 3m x 3m (10ft x 10ft). Why does a hotel go to the trouble of building such a waste of a pool (too small to swim and a waste of hotel space). In the pool room there was also a Jacuzzi spa (nice touch!) and two 1 or 2 person saunas but they were not in working order when I dropped by. Instead of using the mediocre gym, I opted for early morning jogs in the empty parking lot of the Galleria Mall located across the street. It looks like a brand new modern gym is going up a block from the hotel. Hopefully the hotel will make arrangement with the Gym's operators so that guests can use the Gym for a nominal fee once it opens.
The Hotel did not have a "REAL" restaurant in the property but there is a Sierra Madre Restaurant/Micro Brew next to the hotel. Sierra Madre offers a full menu and good selection of micro brews. Lunch was good. But it looks like it is a better place to hang out evenings.
On the other side of the Hotel, there was a Gigante Supermarket/pharmacy where you could get some goodies (drinks, chips, etc) for your room at great prices. Unfortunately the hotel forgot to include refrigerators in the rooms. But don't worry since Ice Machines where available.
Within 10 minutes walk of the hotel, there was a second shopping mall with a modern multi screen stadium sitting Cinema.
Hotel Security is good (you will need a key to operate the elevators to move up to the room floors). Rooms were modern and clean. Beds sheets were a little hard (why do hotel skimp in the most important thing?). The room had a nice sized TV 25 or 27 inches with plenty of channels from Mexico, US (CNN, BBC) and Europe (RAI, DW, BBC). The only channel missing was CNBC or Bloomberg. HEY IT IS A BUSINESS HOTEL!!!
Although there is room for improvements (softer sheets, CNBC, and better equipped gym, better toiletries soft liquid soap that smells good), I will stay there again.
STAFF - Front desk staff must be taught that a SMILE GOES A LONG WAY. It a hotel not a bank! The other staff in the hotel could teach a thing or two to the front desk. Maids, Conference room Attendants and Breakfast Room Staff were very friendly.
All in all the Sheraton Four Points Galeria Monterrey is clean, modern, and functional. - A good choice for business travelers.
