“Loved this hotel”

Camino Real Acapulco Diamante

5 of 5 stars

Feb 12, 2008

This is a gem of a hotel in a beautiful location. We decided to get a club room which includes breakfast and happy hour each day, additional amentities in the room and a superior view of the Puerto Marques - it was well worth it. The service we received here was excellent across the board. The hotel was fairly crowded over the weekend, but when Monday came we practically had the hotel to ourselves. The pool areas are clean and easy to navigate; our favorite spot ended up being the little man made beach which was just a few steps away from the bay and a refreshing salt water dip. This hotel is not huge, everything is conveiniently located - if you need to dash back to your room, you can without an endless walk and a wait for the elevator. In fact, I only used the elevator once the entire week. The restaurants are all quite good, we ate in the hotel a few times. Restaurants off site to visit are Casanova (great service, great food), Bella Vista at Las Brisas (great service, food and a breathtaking view) and Coyuca 22 (atmosphere & view). We decided not to rent a car and so we used the taxis which was much more convienient for us, we did not mind the expense. The weather here is spectacular, we had one overcast afternoon which we spent on the golf course. We played golf at the Acapulco Princess, which is a fun course to play and only a 5 or 10 minute drive from the hotel. The rounds weren't cheap but as a novice I was happy with the pace of play. After visiting the strip in Acapulco we were so glad that we were staying at the Camino Real, secluded from the hustle & bustle of downtown. The only intrusion during our week was a private party which overtook a large part of the pool area and occupied all the servers, In hindight I would have asked the front desk if there were any special events that week and planned golf or day trips to coincide. We were needing a peaceful, relaxing vacation and that is exactly what we got at this hotel!

“Great Stay at the Camino Real”

Camino Real Acapulco Diamante

Feb 11, 2008

I had a great stay at the Camino Real. I had a very nice suite (520) with a pleasant view of Puerto Marques, this is not the zillion dollar view you get at Las Brisas but it is nice and close to the water and very quiet.

The hotel has a private, sandy swimming beach, which is a rarity, and from there you can arrange jet ski, water skiing, etc. The hotel also has 4 pools and many secluded ocean front terraces, great if you want privacy.

The service was better than expected.

The location is convenient to the Las Brisas and Diamante restaurants. I don't find it very challenging to drive in that part of Acapulco so I generally rent a car but use a cab or driver if I am going into the Costera or Traditional.

“Beautiful but a bit out of the way”

Camino Real Acapulco Diamante

Jan 30, 2008

We stayed at the camino real for 5 days during our honeymoon. Our room was big & clean with a nice view. The staff were very friendly and most could speak english. The pools (4 of them i think) were very beautiful with amazing water views. There is also a small beach exclusive to the resort.
The only real problem with this hotel is that it is quite far away from the main strip in acapulco. If you don't have a rented car, then you have to catch a taxi into the city & back every night (about $15 each way). We probably didn't get to see too much of acapulco at night becuase it wasn't at our doorstep.
If you want a quite holiday, then i recommend this hotel. If you want to be a bit closer to everything, then maybe not. Overall though, it still was a very pleasant stay.

“A trip to remember”

Camino Real Acapulco Diamante

We arrived at this hotel the 26th of December. Checking in was quick and easy, almost all the staff speak a reasonable amount of english. We had 3 rooms, 1 was supposed to be a King the other 2 were supposed to be double bed rooms. We ended up with 2 king rooms and one Double. They staff quickly resolved the problem, they brought a comfortable twin size bed to the room. They didn't want to move us because we had great rooms (415,416,417) beautiful view and close to the pool. Other than the beds we had no problems with the rooms, hot water worked (just had to let it run for about 5 minutes first), cable worked well not many english channels, but hey your in Mexico what should you expect. Are Tv was actually replaced with a very nice flat screen TV. Room service almost always took 20-25 minutes. Food was very good! Drinks were yummy too especially the strawberry daiquiries.

We loved the beach and the pool, all though you sometimes might have a hard time finding the seat you want at the pool. I loved the private beach, no vendors to pestor you. They had tons of water sports for in my opinion reasonable prices. For example they have 2 and 3 seater wave runners that you can rent for 30 minutes at a time to ride around the beautiful bay for $400 pesos which is only $40 US. Also they have a variety of tubing and water skiing.

Restaurants. They were all delicious! First we went to Casanova it was wonderful! if you can afford a slightly higher priced meal this is the place to go. They have some very talented genntlemen that play there guitars for you. Kookaburas is also a very good restaurant, I suggest making a reservation at both. They were well worth the extra money, both had breath taking veiws and superior food.

The swimming with the dolphins at CICI Water park was such an experience. If you are interested in dolphins this is something you defintly want to do, its fun for the whole family, even my 3 year old son got in and kissed and played with them. But make sure you make a reservation.

We would like to personally recommend 2 Taxi drivers that worked directly out of the Camino. Sarofeen was a temendous help to us. He booked our boat for snorkeling and got us in to the first dolphin swim of the day. he took us around our whole trip. Where ever he took us he always waited for us. He also reserved a boat to drive us around and take us to see the cliffdivers. He knows his way around well he has lived in Acapulca his whole life. He even bought my son a spinning top from the flea market which is very sweet especially considering he doesn't have a lot. The other cab drivers name is PePe he works out of the Camino as well he speaks very good English he live in the US for 4 years and is very nice and knowledgable. I thought thepricces were quite reasonable. Just about everywhere you go will cost you $150 pesos i.e. CICI, & restaurants, the airport is $250 Pesos but is much further. We almost always tipped about 40% to our drivers, the were very dependable and trustworthy! My dad accidently left his cell phone in Sarofeens car, and the next day Sarofeen had it right there for him. When they said they would be there to pick us up and take us to the water park or restaurant, snorkeling, flea market they were always there, just go out and ask the bell hop to send either one down. My mom loved Sarofeen so much she even gave him a hug goodbye, and my dad is sending him a gift by mail, they are really some great guys just trying to get by.

We would definitly come back, it was a wonderful vacation and sooo beautiful, and very nice people.

“Absolutely terrible. One of my worst experiences ever.”

Camino Real Acapulco Diamante

Contrary to usual Camino Real standards, this stay was pathetic. Suffice to say, the first room we got didn't have a working telephone line and the a/c didn´t work. After complaining we were assigned to the Presidential Suite (they told me it was the only room available).

Thinking this was more than adequate redress, the following things happened:

- We found a 6 in. scorpion in the bathroom (pic attached)
- The terrace jacuzzi was filthy as none I have seen (pic
attached)
- The deadbolt didn't work so we slept kind of unsafely
- The following morning there was no water in the shower and
after service was reestablished we never got hot water
- At check-out they tried to charge me with mini-bar articles I
didn't consume.

In synthesis, terrible. People at the hotel were attentive enough but obviously that does not compensate for a dangerous, filthy, water-lacking, plage-ridden property.

At my own asking (not their initiative) not to be charged, I got a puny US$23 off my US$153 bill for the night.

I have formally complained to management. Will keep you updated about the response.

In this ocassion my only advice is don't go to Camino Real Acapulco unless you like to sleep among scorpions and filth, shower with cold water, like to get robbed at check-out and like to risk your safety with a threadbare 2mm. chain.
