“Absolutely wonderful experience!”

Fiesta Americana Condesa Acapulco

Apr 8, 2008

We did as ladies trip to Mexico, 2 single women, mid 30's. We booked this trip thru MLT vacations (the last week they offered it so that we would miss the spring breakers!). Transported to the hotel and checked in very fast and very polite staff. Our room was nice and faces the opposite side of the clubs. Very quiet and beautiful. Had a little bit of a smell from the bay water. The pools are absolutely gorgeous! Kids pool is very large. What I liked most was that there is plenty of shaded area in the pools as well as sun. This is nice for older parents traveling with their children or grandchildren. Plenty of chairs and towels. The first day we stayed on the upper pool/ They have a DJ that entertains the crowd and kids. They play dance/techno/mexican style music. Very loud and fun! If you put your IPOD on you can rest. But if you are looking for relaxation, then the second level pool is for you. There might be some kids there, but if not...then score! Staff is wonderful, especially Antonio! He speaks some English and will bring you water you need! Just ask what the special of the day is or what time is the 2 for 1 special. The music is calmer, you can see the water and the beach. You can venture to the beach area and you will be appproached by the beach peddlars. I got a 30 minute full body massage from Isabella for $20! She wanted $25 I think, but I talked her down because I knew I would come back for more! And I did. I could have had the massage every day! She has strong hands! If you say, no gracias. They will eventually leave, just remember this is how they earn their living and it is not easy walking up and down that beach. The waves are strong. We did not go in and swim, just got our feet wet. The air conditioner in our room was not working, so the room was mildew smelly and HOT. We slept two nights, they tried to fix, then they gave up a different room. We were able to choose the room we wanted. We actually requested to be on the barside, to overlook the pool. The view is much better! You can see the pool, the beach, and the whole rest of the Bay, and the bungee jumpers. Which was very entertaining. Most nights we were up and out till about 2. But, on the occasion that we called it an early night, I think the noise was good for me. I usually sleep with a fan, so I needed somenoise and did not find it too overbearing especially if the air conditioner was running. We ate room service a couple times. The nachos and hamburgers are excellent. But mostly, we ate on the strip at local, open air spots. Highly recommend eating Pastor con queso @ Tacos & Beer and at Tacos Tumbra! I had wonderful enchiladas at El Fogon. We ate breakfast at VIPS (like Denny's) which is airconditioned and very good. Most places have English menus. I also ate waffles at 100% Natural, which was great, but somewhat high prices for the amount of food you get. They put muffins on the table (sort of how they put chips on the table at El Fogon), but you get charged for the muffin if you eat them! So, make sure you are really hungry if you do! Shopping for souveniers...we went to the market down by the fountain and got some t-shirts for a nice price (we bartered!). But for the magnets/shot glasses, I would suggest going to WalMart (you can buy for around $1.50/ea to $1.80/ea. Cab ride will cost about 30 or 40 pesos (3 or 4 dollars). We never caught the hotel cab because that was more expensive. Walk out and up the street, stand there and you will get picked up. Tell the driver where you are going and verify price, if you do not like, then walk back. You can catch another one! He will take the fare! We paid about 50 pesos to go to the Palladium. But mostly on the strip, it should be about 30 or 40 pesos. We stocked up on snacks, water, and soda from Walmart. This is the way to go since the hotels have mini refrigerators in them. On the main lobby floor, there is a business center. You can use the internet for free to check emails or websites of the weather back home. They have plenty of childrens activities and although we did not have our children with us, I kept thinking that they would have really enjoyed being at this hotel and this location. We stayed in a single room with 2 beds. Very nice and plenty of room. We were able to take a peek at one ot the suites. They are gorgeous. 3 separate hotel rooms with a kitchen, huge balcony, and living room area. If traveling with 2 famililes or multiple people, I highly suggest this room for at least 2 couples with children. Having the kitchen area would be wonderul to make food for kids who don't always want mexican food. You can access the grocery store or even Walmart to stock up. We did leave a $2/day tip for the maid and then $5 at the end of our vacation. Our room was cleaned wonderfully and they are very kind. The staff are just like us, they work hard for their money and if you treat them with respect and smile at them, say hola....you will have a wonderful experience! I would definitely stay at this hotel again!

“Great Hotel”

Fiesta Americana Condesa Acapulco

Apr 6, 2008

My husband and I (in our 30s) have travelled to many places in Europe, and the Carribean, so we have developed high expectations over the years. We were careful to check everyone's reviews before booking with Fiesta Americana since it was our first time in Acapulco.

Overall, the experience at the hotel was wonderful. We intentionally did not take the all-inclusive package because we wanted to explore the local restaurants and city life. However, we did eat breakfast and lunch at the hotel a few times, and we were satisfied.

Travelling in April is fantastic because we avoided the crowds around the pool & beach. You also get more value on your excursion trips because the tour guide gives you more personal attention when the group is very small. For those who plan to travel next year, Easter (or Holy) week is a very busy time since many Mexicans vacation at that time.

Here is a breakdown of my review:

Hotel:
- friendly & professional staff (not all staff speak English)
- we didn't mind tipping extra (about 15%, even though service charge is included for every meal). We learned that busboys and waiters make less than $10 US/day, so an additional tip is not only very appreciated but after seeing much poverty in the city's boroughs, we really didn't mind to tip more.
- nice, spacious, clean rooms
- we asked to change room after one night because it faced one of the local night clubs and the music was too loud. Staff gladly changed our room to another oceanview room the next day.
- location very good (close to everything)
- pools were clean
- beach was very nice, clean (on the weekends, too many vendors). Very strong undertow, and not easy for swimming.
- a little crowded on the weekends, but significantly less guests during the week

To avoid:
- Puerto Marquez (we went there for the beach, but the water was very dirty, and saw extreme poverty in the town)
- Paradise Restaurant (has a great view but despite the recommendations of the local people, we did not like it. The beef was undercooked, and there's a strange odor in the restaurant.
- SuCasa (similar to a chain restaurant, not authentic, and the owners appeared to treat staff rudely and unprofessionally)

Must see or go to: Restaurants
- Madeiras Resaurant (great food, great view of the Bay, about $75 per person for a la carte menu (includes wine)
- El Olvido Restaurant (on Condesa Beach, not far from the hotel, beautiful decor, views, about $50 per person for the fixed menu special, very romantic.
- Baikal (close to Madeiras)

Must see or go to: Tourist Trips or Activities
- swim with dolphins ($95 US per person for 1/2 hour)
- Pie de la Cuesta (will take your breath away....miles of virgin coast)...recommend to go with a tour operator. You will see a lot of poverty on your trip to the site. Restaurants not recommended in that area, except for El Terreno Private Club.
- Coyuca Lagoon (part of the Pie de la Cuesta excursion trip.
- Los Flamingos Hotel & Restaurant (great sunset views, same place where 50s actors vacationed, live local music)
- Cliff divers/La Quebrada: not necessary to pay $20 US per person to sit at a restaurant to see the divers. You can view them from the public square or street.

Additional Tips given by locals and other tourists:
- Isla La Roqueta is overrated (lunch included in the excursion trip is really bad, long line ups at the buffet table)
- La Perla Restaurant (where you have a view of the cliffdivers), food not great.

Taxi:
- We met Pedro (who is often assigned at the hotel) and speaks English. He was very reasonable with his rates, very professional, friendly and can pick you up at scheduled times or will drive somewhere with you and wait (if need be). We met another driver before meeting Pedro and he tried to overcharge us. We were lucky to find Pedro. I believe he drives taxi car # 0365.

In the middle of the action with great access to the beach. This is not a quiet area but if you have a room on the opposite side of the pool you will not be disturbed by the noise. Staff was very helpful, had a problem with one of the TV they came over within 10 minutes. Room was almost too big for 2 , I would recommend it to a friend

“Mostly Happy with the Fiesta Americana”

We are a family of four traveling on spring break with 2 college age daughters. When we arrived at 1:00 pm we where happy with check-in. One room was ready and the other would be shortly. We had a one bedroom and a suite for the girls. The girls got their room about 7:30 pm. We did not have a coffee pot in our room. Thankfully the girls did. The shower doors where broken off our shower. The maid did bring in shower curtian. The jacuzzi did not work., and water from shower was so little that we showerd in girls room. On our first full day there both girls went done to the work out room and worked out. Two days latter we where told we had to pay 100 us for the week or 5us / person /visit /day. Also on the second day ( I am a 50 year old women) I was stopped and questioned and told I had to wear a wrist band (after room was varified). My husband and girls wher e ever stopped. The music is verry loud and goes until 6:00 am. I know I have said all the negitive right off. The rooms are very nice if you have a one bedroom. It is a time share but they do not bother Americans or Canadians I think it's mostly for mexicans from mexico city. I think north america is new to this hotel. We had a 200us credit at the hotel and tried to get a balance on it 2 times and could not. We left with 73us still on credit . Check out is 11am they let us have our rooms until1:00 witch was great but we could not use the remander of the hotel credit for lunch. Our bus picked us up at 3:00.

“Solid Choice”

Fiesta Americana Condesa Acapulco

4 of 5 stars

Just returned back from a week at the Fiesta Americana Villas and was very impressed by the property. We arrived on a Saturday afternoon and check in was quick and efficient. We wanted a room overlooking the pool and was granted that request as well. The hotel overall was very clean and fairly modern. It happens to split as a timeshare property as well but we were not once hassled to attend any type of presentation. Our room was located on the 16th floor with a great view of the city and amazing sunsets. The room contained a King bed and a pull out sofa bed along with a mini kitchenette that contained a small fridge, sink and utenzils. This was a great feature as we stocked the fridge full of water, soda and beer. There was a TV with mostly spanish channels but had a few english ones to suffice. The only downfall which has been mentioned before is that the pool side of the hotel is more noisy due to the bars along the beach blarring their music till 5 or 6 am on most nights. It was not unbearable though. The pool area of the hotel was very very nice. The lounge chairs were snapped up early on the weekends but there was lots to choose from during the week when it wasn't as busy. The lower pool bar had 2 for 1 drink specials from 11 am - 6 pm all week when we needed a cold drink around the pool. The hotel had a couple restaurants as well but we did not use them due to the variety of other restaurants surrounding the hotel. This hotel is situated perfectly in the middle of the bay and close to all the action in Acapulco. An ideal choice!!! All in all I was impressed by the hotel and its staff. Everyone was very helpfull and friendly and I wouldn't hessitate staying in the future. Overall a solid 3.5 star by Can/US standards. Enjoyed our stay!!!
