“Retreat in the city”

Elcano Hotel

Some of the many reasons my wife & I loved this hotel.

The staff is friendly, attentive, & competent.

Rooms are pretty, clean & quiet. The hotel's main color theme is blue & white. All rooms have a view, & most have a balcony with table & chairs. You do not hear road traffic, nor loud bar music when trying to sleep at normal hours.

The view from the balcony is spectacular! Due to it's location in the middle of the bay shoreline, you see each side of bay to the left & right & the open ocean directly ahead of you.

The pool is pretty. It is not as large as the mega resort pools, but it is large enough to do laps. It does fill up with children & their parents after 10:30am.

Hotel is on the beach with relatively calm water. As I understand it the beaches in Mexico are not private. Nonetheless, hotel's beach was quiet with Palm trees for shade.

Great location in the middle of the Costera zone. We wanted to walk or take a short bus ride to restaurants, dance clubs, coffee shops & super markets. It is close to Wal-mart, Starbucks, Super Gigante market, Mojito's Dance Club(salsa), Nina's Dance Club(salsa), HSBC bank branch, 100% Natural Restaurant, & more.

Good hotel restaurant located right on the beach. The service was attentive & friendly. I devoured the Bacalao a la Veracruz..

Exercise/workout room was small but adequate. 2 treadmills, 1 bike machine, weight machine with 10-12 different lifting positions, and some hand weights. It was not used often. When I worked out I had the room to myself.

Cable TV with lots of channels. Most shows either in Spanish or in English with Spanish dubbing or sub titles.

Only bummer...no refrigerator, nor coffee maker to heat water.
Remember, this is in the middle of the city. If you want to be out in a jungle somewhere, this place is probably not for you.

We would enjoy staying there again.

“Didn't stay long enough at The Elcano”

Elcano Hotel

What a great hotel The Elcano is. Classic late fifties/early sixties design, huge lobby, big rooms, big bathrooms and the only hotel in Acapulco that has a balcony in every room which faces the water. Air-con and fans in each room, rooms serviced twice a day, friendly staff, delicious buffet breakfast, large pool with four jacuzzis and private space on the beach. We stayed at the end of the low season and there were days we had the whole pool to ourselves. We were able to arrange day trips at the front desk and the hotel is within walking distance of eateries and shopping. We stayed for 7 nights but will stay longer next visit. There was nothing like having a drink each evening on our balcony and watching the sun set.

We had a wonderful stay. The rooms were spacious and clean. Vast majority of which had balcony and ocean view.Breakfast buffett consisted of fresh fruit, made to order eggs and various native dishes.Evening meal was from the menu and we had fresh fish on two seperate occasions During the day snacks from the bar were offered and all were excellent.Wait staff was very friendly along with everyone associated at the hotel.Beach was spacious, clean and towels and chairs readily available.Plenty of shade available during the day. Pool area was a great place to sun bathe or cool off with some shade available in some areas.I recommend and would return.

“Bad food and bad service”

Elcano Hotel

We hab been at elcano three consecutive years at the end of the 90's and at this moment. we loved this place.
This year, we just returned and discovered that the food is not good, all is cold..... you have to fight to have wine or beer or toast in the morning.... you are always waiting...
The rooms are really good and clean. But we think that good food is an implrtant element of good vacaiton....
We were very deceived....

“Lovin' the El Cano!”

Elcano Hotel

Feb 18, 2007

My friend and I spent two amazing weeks at the El Cano and I must admit it was awsome! We stayed in what they describe as a regular room but we found it above average. Very clean, beautifully decorated, especially the bathroom. The towels were changed more often than we needed, but, hey, that's OK. The beds were a bit too firm for me, but obviously excellent quality. We sat on our private balcony every morning to soak up the quiet morning air and watch the sun rise over the hills around the bay. Evening, we were treated to spectacular sunsets from the same balcony. The framed prints painted by a mexican artist and displayed in the room and throughout the hotel are unique, beautiful and quite the conversation pieces. The food is top quality and the selection vast! The pool has lots of room for the guests and there were always enough loungers for us sun worshippers! We had a brief problem with the air conditioning in our room, but they sent a repairman up within minutes to fix it! We were within walking distance to the market area, Walmart, bank, bars, dancing and convenience stores. And the staff ... well, we can't say enough good things about the staff, especially the serving staff for the outdoor dining and bar areas! So very, very friendly although a bit slow sometimes (it was quite busy). They made you feel welcome and appreciated. I daresay the recent reports of killings made the staff work harder to win you over. Why, toward the end of our stay, they even had one of the bartenders sing a farewell song to us, accompanied by the mariachi band that frequented the hotel. Simply unforgettable!
