I have have been to Mexico several times over the past 20 years and this was by far the worse trip. I have stayed at Acapulco (Grand Mayan Palace) two years ago and loved it. Cancun several times (Rivera Maya Mayan Palace and the Omni Hotel and loved it. Xtapa enjoyed, last year stayed at Puerto Vallart Mayan Palace and loved it. I will never return to Raintree Vill Vera ever again. First of all, the beach is too far..either walk or take a taxi...the locals on the beach are annoying trying to sel you something it was a nightmare. You cannot relax on the beach even the workers form the restaurants on the beach are annoying..they all fight to sell you drinks and meals..it is uncomfortable. You pretend you are sleeping or try to rest and they poke at you with the stuff they are selling. I had to stay away from the beach..how depressing. Although, the beaches are public, you need to stay at a hotel that has their own beach .there are also private beach clubs. The hotel service was lazy,,,we hung out at the pool everday and it was boring. No music, if they had it it was too low to hear. No excitement by the pool. I was there the height of the season Presidents week February and they had only one pool bar open as there are two. If you expect to have someone come around to ask you if you want a drink or food while relaxing at the pool, forget about that too. We had to constantly get up and go look for someone at the pool bar and restaurant to pls come over to us. No matter how much we tipped them, it just was not happening. We had to hunt the guys down to bring us ice or get us drinks. Not my idea of a vacation. I even go electrically schocked in the pool,...my entire arm was tingling...the light was broken in the pool and hanging into the water. I swam past it and got shocked...I had to find someone in Management to tell them what happened. They took their sweet time, but eventually disconnected the light. The bathrooms by the pool are dirty and smelly. Room service is poor and slow. The rooms were clean and the service in the room was good. If you like soft pillows please ask for them. The pillows are rock hard. First night I woke up with a headache due to the pillows...who likes hard pillows??? They sent me one soft fluffy pillow, but I had to call twice. I had a private villa with my own pool..I think this was the best part of the place. My friend stayed in a regular room without a pool and it was small. It is worth upgrading to the villa if you can The restaurant at the hotel is horrible. Do not eat dinner there. Breakfast and lunch is ok. Don't waste your money on dinner there. They are not helpful at all at the front lobby. Try going to Lasbrisas ...that is beautiful and amazing..their restaurant is wonderful. I would stay there next time. If lasbrisas is too pricey try going to the Fiesta American Hotel....not the Inn make sure it is the hotel..that is on the beach. We visited this hotel and it was really nice and happening. They have a few very large pools and good food and a nice beach ...still the vendors are there. Alcapulco is dirty and it is impossible to get to..the connecting flights in mexico city are a nightmare. .

“Great staff and beautiful views”

Villa Vera Hotel Spa and Racquet Club

We stayed at the Villa Vera for one week, Jan 27-Feb 2 and had a wonderful time. Stayed in room 517. Room was nice but the chairs were not too comfortable. The housekeeping staff did a lovely job. Each day the room was cleaned, fresh towels, bed made with some extra way of folding the comforter back and then placing flowers on the bed taken from the lovely gardens outside the rooms. Our housekeeper also cut some roses and put in a little glass on the table. The A/C kept the room cool and almost cold. The water in the shower had incredible pressure and hot water was available all the time. The tub in this room was a tile tub and very nice. Couldn't use it because the stopper wouldn't keep the water from emptying so good hot showers were our only choice. there is a mini fridge in the room but there is a $10 charge to get the key. Well worth it even though you would think it should be free. When you arrive you will need to leave a deposit which your charges will be put against and the remainder will be refunded at the end of your stay. The main pool by the restaurant was very nice. It is for adults only and very relaxing. There is a bar in the pool so you can stay cool and get your drinks too. We had lunch delivered poolside on several occasions and the food was delicious. American food is available as well. The club sandwich was great for those who don't like mexican. The resort is up a hill but we chose to walk up and down to save a little cash. We used the buses and found that after day one we could figure out how to get almost anywhere on the buses. If you take any bus that says Costera on the side it will stay along the coast. There is internet available somewhere in the office near the concierge desk but we found that the Office Max at the bottom of the hill charged 10 pesos for a half an hour which sufficed us to check our mail. It is much more in the office. Walmart is a short bus ride away and you can get all the bottled water you want. The bottled water we found has sodium added to it so be aware if you are on a low sodium diet. There is the issue of being approached for a timeshare speel. After 2 days it was not mentioned to us again. Once you enter the resort property there is a driver who will take you up to the rooms and you can call the office to have him pick you up and bring you to the gate. At the gate you can get a taxi unless you choose to walk to where you can get a bus. The view from the main pool area is nice although nowadays there are some taller hotel buildings that cloud the view a little. They will change your currency in the office but you will get a better exchange rate down on the Costera Miguel Aleman (Main drag along the coast). The spa, weight room, incur extra charges. The whirlpool/hot tub at the big pool didn't seem to be hot or working when we tried but I saw it on when some others were in there. There is limited TV in English but you can find some things to watch. There is no DVD player in this room. We found it to be quiet, relaxing and comfortable for the most part. The staff was exceptional and always helpful. It is a little way from the airport so be prepared to pay high taxi fares to and from the airport.

“Very nice stay during the crazy Holiday Season!”

Villa Vera Hotel Spa and Racquet Club

We used RCI for our lodging for Dec 25-Dec 29, 2007. I've stayed at the Villa Vera one other time using RCI during low season, and got upgraded to a villa then. This time, we were in the "hotel section" at the top of the resort due to the holidays. We were in Room 502, which opened up directly to a beautiful pool. The "hotel section" is comprised of a building that has 3 floors, with the pool at the bottom. The pool was virtually unused the entire time, except for us. Every morning for breakfast we would order room service and have it out by the pool on a glass-topped table shaded by an umbrella. A great way to start the day! Our waiter would also check out towels for us from the main pool, so we literally didn't have to leave during the day.. We tipped him $4 USD/day for his services. The area surrounding the pool was clean, with plenty of chairs and umbrellas that were new or nearly new. There was a small waterfall at one end of the pool and a smaller one at the other end. The buildings and walls are painted white, which helps make the blue color of the pool seem even more brilliant.

The bathroom was unique in the fact the tub was made out of tiles and wasn't a square. I imagine it was very difficult to install! Water pressure was great, and hot water was always available.

The vanity area had lots of lighting, so that area never appeared drab. It was great for getting ourselves ready to go out at night. There was plenty of storage across from the sink. The bed was a king size, with daily maid service. Our maid would pick flowers for us every day and put them with the heart and swan figures she would create out of towels.

The a/c worked very well! Sometimes we would have to shut it off completely during the night. Brrr!

The unit had sliding glass doors that were covered by a sheer curtain and black-out drapes. It was nice to open both and look out in the afternoon.

We walked to La Tortuga for dinner one night. I never have had a bad meal there! Tried a new place with our local friend, Pepe Peralta, who tool us to this great little local restaurant close to Gran Plaza area named La Casa de Mariscos. Liked it so much we went back the next night! Some nights there is live music and singing. I had the best shrimp cocktail I've ever eaten for $65 pesos (came in a soup bowl, not a glass, with over a dozen medium to large shrimp)! We also went to Ruben's for sirloin burgers that are made really well to whatever degree of doneness you want (not dried out in other words).

The front desk personnel were very nice and friendly. The only thing I didn't like is they kept pushing the bottled water ($35 pesos for a small bottle) for everything, even making coffee, as we were checking in. But because there wasn't a sign at the sink that warned about the water, we didn't pay attention to them. (I'm sure, anyway, they are told to say that as a source of revenue for the resort.)

We've heard from others here at TA about the main pool and about how much fun it is, but we didn't make it there once! We liked our privacy and the quiet of the area where we were, as this was a R&R vacation for us.

We used their internet services which were very reasonably priced. We also used their small deli on-site which was very convenient for things such as drinks, snacks, suntan lotion, etc.

As a word of caution, this resort is built on a mountain, with some of the buildings, such as the hotel section, being built directly into the mountain, so the road leading from the office to the rooms is very steep. We, however, didn't find this to be a problem, even during the holiday season; they will send a vehicle to pick you up to take you to the bottom and vise versa (during the day, continuing through the evening). They will let your cab take you to the top at night when you return.

Checkout was a breeze.

I like this boutique resort a lot. There are many services that are available that we didn't use this time around as we were there only 4 days. I will definitely stay here again!

“Like Coming Home”

Villa Vera Hotel Spa and Racquet Club

Another great 10 days at the Villa Vera. The staff especially Israel, Teddy and Antonio are terrific. They make you feel like you are an old friend. The Villa Vera remains a good home base if you are not expecting to be on the beach. It is not for children and the hills and stairs may not make it the place for everyone. We stayed in 408 again and love the view.
Once again we used Sebastian as our resident driver and tour guide. In our opinion he is simply the best. His e-mail is: [--] should you wish to contact him. We took a day trip to Taxco. Stopped along the way for a breakfast at a local place he knows. Good food and interesting owners, cute children. The advantage to using Sebastian for these trips is that his car can navigate the narrow streets of Taxco that a van or tour bus cannot.
Lot’s of good restaurants, but La Tortuga is still our favorite. It is walking distance from the Villa Vera just down the hill, behind the Office Max.

“Apprehensive from some reviews---But Loved It!”

First of all, this place was Great! I have read some mixed reviews but can't understand why. Everyone there treated us great. From check-in, to the bellboys, to the daily maid service, and the pool boy. Also the staff at the restraunt were excelent. We were there on a RVC timeshare exchange and had read that you would get an inferior room. Not for us. They took us directly to 301 and it was beautiful!! We travel alot and have stayed at many nice places but this was exceptional. The room was over-sized and very well furnished. The king bed was as good as any I have ever slept on. Some of the people writing reviews seem to be expecting an efficientcy, but these were never represented as such. There was a $10.00 charge to empty out the minifridge/bar and let us use it how we wanted, but I think that is reasonable since they have to send someone to empty it and then restock it once you leave. If you are spending any time here, you might find it helpful to pick up a microwave at wal-mart like we did. This was the first 1/2 of a 2 week trip that ended up at the Villa Vera in Zihuatanejo, so we also used the microwave there and then gave it to a waiter that help make our trip so memorable.

As nice as the inside was, very large marble bathroom, nice jacuzzi tub and shower combo, table with 2 comfortable chairs and a cozy loveseat, plenty of closet and drawer space, ect. the best thing about this villa is the outside. A gigantic veranda with a wet bar, a table with 2 chairs with pads, a hammock, another table with 2 more padded chairs and an umbrella out by the pool, and 2 lounges with full length pads that were actually comfortable, as well as a private pool that was about 25' by 16'.
We even had some private yard space. The pool was very important to us as we spent alot of time in and around it. It was in excelent shape and was maintained every day, very early in the morning. It was lit at night (at your option), and was always clean and inviting.

Although Acapulco itself was not as inspiring as we had hoped, there are some great things to do and see there, but we found our villa at the Villa Vera to be the highlight of the 1st week of our trip. You will find plenty of great places to eat, but we found the restaraunt at the Villa Vera to be our favorite. A gorgeous view of the bay, great food & service and resonable prices were a hard combination to beat. The off season hours were a little restrictive or we would have eaten there even more.

If peace and quite along with high quality furnishings and amenities are to your liking, I think it would be hard to beat the Villa Vera for your stay in Acapulco!

  • This TripAdvisor Member:
    • Liked — The large private pool and terrace area and amenities.
    • Disliked — Walking to town was reasonably close and easy going as it was all down hill, BUT coming back up the hill to the resort is not for the faint of heart.
