Acapulco: Calinda Beach Hotel "Could use help"

Date: Feb. 8/07

My husband and I returned one month ago from the Calinda Beach. The hotel is very nice with some attractive features. It has a friendly and courteous staff. The maid service was a little disappointing in that unless there was a tip on the dresser, we would not receive any bath towels.
There was one main restaurant which offered the basics. The breakfasts consisted of recycled food from the previous nights dinner. Water, a basic necessity, was never available. If you asked for it, you received a 250ml bottle; hardly substantial for 35 degree weather. In fact, simple foods such as toast, bacon, coffee and tea were only available if you asked . Mexiican tortillas were only available for the hotel staff .
The pool area was very congested with empty chairs and food left behind.
The activities person did absolutely nothing to entertain the guests. His entire day was spent spinning records or working out in the gym
We have been visiting acapulco for seventeen years and will continue to vacation there, but we will not be returning to the Calinda Beach.

“just wasted 1800.00 the worst food & service in the world”

the rooms and views were great, but you can't live on rooms alone. The food if that is what it was absolutely the worst times 10. the same slop day after day and each meal morning noon and night the restrauntant alcarte was just the same food only servered upstairs . The food was so bad that we were forced to eat out most times. In the buffet they would not give you bacon or toast, although they had it. The drinks were served with little or no alchol. No poolside snacks where ever servered althought were included. No activities were even provided although were to be included. Lewid music was played in english at the poolside, WE will never go there again

“Good Value!”

Calinda Beach Acapulco

We stayed at the Calinda Beach from Feb 16 to Feb 21, 2007, on the 25th floor with an excellent ocean view. The king-sized bed was clean and very comfortable. We noticed the tile floor would sweat and become dangerously slippery, and later found it had something to do with the AC and the open balcony door. Laundry pricing was normally high, and the laundry staff speaks no English. But, beware that the laundry staff will change your order to charge you more. That is, the price for my white v-neck undershirts was arbitrarily changed by the laundry staff from undershirt to shirt, in order to charge more. After showing the delivery man a shirt and then showing him an undershirt, he corrected the price.

Internet use at the Calinda consists of a very small room with 2 computers. If you use your own laptop, then you must visit the adjacent Sanborn's restaurant to purchase a Prodigy card. Note that your logon ID would be multifon/NC, where NC is the scratch off 12-digit ID number. The password is simply multifon.

At the Sanborns restaurant, we ordered the homemade chicken/rice soup and fried butterfly shrimp which were both excellent. The next day, we tried the hamburger which tasted strange.

The breakfast buffet at Calinda’s was mediocre at best and consisted of a small variety of different foods. However you can ask your waiter for bacon, toast and hash browned potatoes, since those items are not displayed on the buffet table. The omelet cook does not speak English and does not cook your omelet ingredients prior to adding the eggs. Therefore, you end up with uncooked onions, green peppers, etc inside your omelet. After futile attempts in explaining to the cook how to cook the omelet, we just gave up, and happily ate what was prepared.

Happy hour (two for one) at the hotel lobby bar is daily from 7 til 8PM.

All in all, we had a great time in Acapulco, and were in town with a very large group from Chicago. Many of them hosted fabulous parties at their rented villas! The villa parties were in the upscale Las Brisas area, and included Casa Flor deLuna, Villa Guadalupe, Vista Grande, Tres Lobos, Villa Eternidad, Casa Buenos Aires, Casa Ensuenos, Villa Nini-Lo; and in town: Casablanca del Mar, Villa Del Arbol, Villa Vera , La Casa Argo, and some other names I can’t recall. And we partied at the Sky Garden (formerly Zucca Lounge, which was exclusively reserved for Chicago), the Copacabana, the Calinda and the Hyatt! Whew!

Food in town was excellent! We had dinner at Linda Vista (perfection!), Kookaburra (a bit over-priced, but the view of the bay was marvelous!), Paradise ($8 US whole red snapper!, while watching bungee jumpers!), El Olvido (very romantic!), Coyuca 22 (wow!, the best!), and many more wonderful restaurants with breath-taking views of the bay. We had to travel uphill in “old” Acapulco to reach Coyuca 22. The taxi ride was dark and a bit scary. The lobster, steak, lamb chops and salmon entrees were nothing short of superb, but rather expensive! The drinks were missing one main ingredient---the alcohol!

Needless the say, we really enjoyed ourselves and will visit Acapulco again next February. And, Calinda will probably be our choice again, since we think it is a great value at $83. Or maybe back to the Hyatt! Smiles!

“Bad Food, Bad Service, Bad rooms. Waste of a Trip!”

Calinda Beach Acapulco

Stayed at the hotel for 2 weeks from Feb 15- March 1st during the Canadian Spring Break season.
First off - Food was ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE. Same 7 dishes every single night, by the second week I was literally scamming food from other hotels (CopaCabana, Playa Suites) just to eat something with variety. They actually served "Spaghetti con Butter", MExican Style Rice (rice with the occasional pepper tossed in), and the same rotation of undercooked, fatty pieces of meat floating in oil and water.
The hotel reception is terribly understaffed. 1 or 2 people max taking bookings while answering phones and dealing with current guests.
Key Cards needed to be reprogramed **6 times*** throughout the week, and this is AFTER i climbed to the 20th floor only to find out it wasnt working again. Bar fridge was not restocked (pain in the ass when you want water at 4am), Towels had wierd stains on them, Shower was IMPOSSIBLE to use (a 1/16" difference between scalding hot and freezing cold), and generally overal a very shabby environment.
would not recommend to ANYONE, stay at the CopaCabana or Playa Suites if youre looking for a Spring Break crowd, or the Hyatt or Crowne Plaza for a quiter environment
