“Peaceful getaway!”

Quinta Real Acapulco

Jun 28, 2008

Just got back from a peaceful getaway a the resort. Wonderful hotel for mature couples, newly weds and romancing lady friends. Armed guards, gated entrance and a wall separate you from the real Acapulco. The poverty stricken people of Acapulco really pull on your heart stings. I felt some guilt at being able to enjoy something in their own city they could not. The staff are warm, friendly and ready to serve you like royalty. Many speak English, so communication should not be a problem if you don't speak Spanish. We did learn a little Spanish before we arrived and the staff was egar to help us learn more. That was fun! The rooms are large and clean. The bed was somewhat firm but OK. Views from the room was breathtaking. Lounging by the pool drinking Margaritas, listening to music and meeting some of the other guests was very enjoyable. Walking on the beach was an interesting experience. As you walk about a quarter of a mile down the beach you come upon the vendors and some of the people of the area enjoying the beach. We enjoyed it. This is a hotel for getting away from it all. If you are looking for action then stay in a hotel on Acapulco Bay in the city where you have more freedom of movement outside the hotel.

“Fit for a queen! Complete with armed guards to mind the kingdom.”

Quinta Real Acapulco

We came to Acapulco for the sole purpose of catching a plane back home. Quinta Real suited our purposes - tight security, private beach, large rooms. We saved big money by booking with the property by phone.

Sadly, because we drove into Acapulco from back side of the city (having driven from San Agustinillo to Acapulco), we also saw 'behind the curtain' of tourism here, the real Acapulco, and we were a bit traumatized by the grinding poverty just below the famed hills. Not a pretty place at all. Given the stark vision of the social inequities that fuel Acapulco, we had mixed feelings about staying behind the well-guarded gates of palatial Quinta Real. Relieved to feel protected after seeing the scary side of Acapulco, but guilty that we were inside when so many were not. Yes, the smoke on the horizon is from burning trash within the city.

Ironically, you will feel like royalty at Quinta Real, in more ways than one, in rooms that are large and marbled. Every room an ocean view (though the cracked stucco and rusted metal on our veranda made us reticent to step out on it). The staff is gracious, even solicitous - just don't ask them to tell you about the living standards for locals, like I did, because they will tell you, and you may not want to know. The morning buffet is a delight. The multi-leveled architecture meanders down several levels to the beach: from glorious, sweeping views at check-in, along winding garden-scaped stairways until suddenly emerging water level into a series of private sunning/pool areas: from a private bar and pool complete with lounging beds, to a second bar area containing a cooling pool and deck lounging, and finally down to the beach where tented areas give way to gentle waves and private beach. Note: get down early to the pool to mark your chair with a book or towel, as spots fill quickly.

We spent our time on the uncrowded beach (Jan 1st - 3rd '08), boogie boarding on waves not quite large enough, and resting under white tents in the sand - delightful. No beach vendors to bother us. If you don't mind that men with rifles stand guard to keep people on the public beach from encroaching onto the private Quinta Beach, and if you can ignore that small altercations between locals and armed guards arise sporadically, then yes, aside from such incongruities...I confess, shamefully, that I enjoyed my stay. But I do feel guilty about it. Guilty like a queen who is able to block out those details after being served a cooling tamarindo marguerita or two.

“Nice but Overpriced”

Quinta Real Acapulco

4 of 5 stars
mexico city
Mar 27, 2008

Quinta Real is a very nice hotel. It has the "Gran Turismo" label which means is above 5 stars, but it is really a high end 5 star. Its fair price should be around 150 USD per night, instead of the 300-350 they ask.
The service is really good. From a welcome with a warm hand towel, to the front desk and the pool, everything is great. They really try hard. We stayed during a 100% ocuppancy week and they still were able to give a great service.
The hotel physical infrastructure need improvement. For example: elevators are old and slow; towels and linens are old and of medium quality. For a "Gran Turismo" hotel those need to be of better quality. The beds are not very comfortable. One expects beds as good as in your own house. The air condition is not very cold. The fan was noisy. The tv's are old and not many channels are available (around15). The TV should be flat TV's in a Grand Turismo hotel. In the pool, the umbrella we had was broken. The service was great and the guy at the poll came 4 times to fix the umbrella, but you don't expect broken umbrellas in a 350 USD hotel.
So all in all the experience was good. For a 150USD hotel I would be very happy, but for a 350 it is not worth.

“wonderful- relaxing place- great 4 day getaway!”

Quinta Real Acapulco

5 of 5 stars
California

We just back from a 4 day "got to get out of town" mad rush for the airport vacation. This hotel was beyond beautiful- it was warm, but not too warm- we were greeted with moist towels on a silver tray upon check-in with a friendly drink offer.

We stayed in the Gouvernors Suite that was beautiful but bed was awful- however, the night manager quickly had us changed into another room the next day and that room I could have lived in forever. The gouvernors suites have private pools in them and they are worth every penny that you pay- there are not many places that you can say that you are 4 stories up overlooking the ocean sitting in a private pool drinking champagne and watching a sunset- The 2nd night my husband and I got the most restful night sleep- it was pure bliss to wake up and look out at the floor to ceiling window overlooking an ocean- and did I mention- no screaming kids. The only ones that we saw were the local upper class children that were so polite that I thought we should send all of the spoiled kids down there for training.

The pool area was great- music had worldwide flare from all over with a good vibe and service was friendly and speedy. For the first time in my life, my husband and I both fell completely asleep in public....it was so relaxing that we both finished a book each. We went into town and was directed by our personal driver (that the hotel aranged)- they took us to a local beverage store where I found more Champagne and vintage Napa Valley wine than we see in the states- impressive and shocking! We stocked up and paid a small corkage fee the entire trip to the hotel- make sure that you eat at the hotel- room service was lightening fast at odd hours which was great- We would go back for the peace and quiet which was a beautiful change to CA life.

A great little gem tucked away in a corner of Acapulco...away from the confusion of the main strip..secure and exclusive...
Great food..staff a little slow but this is Mexico with a differnet attitude.
Great amenities from Hermes...Pool is super elegant..elevator a little slow but remeber your on holidays....FANTASTIC music in the areas.
All in all a great hideaway...worth every penny!!
