“The Penthouse was so worth it!!!”

Hotel Acamar Acapulco

The room with no ocean view is really affordable but the view of the ocean is worth every penny! We got lucky to stay at the penthouse by chance, the owner's former apartment and althogh it was not renovated yet, the price and mostly the view were incredible!!! The staff is very nice! I loved every minute of our stay there! It is not shick but the view and experience from every room with a view is absolutely worth it! The restaurant nextdoor that serves the whole beach is fun and the staff is very friendly. It is a spectacular place for somebody who is does not want a typical Americanized Mexico resort. We went in December and it was more than perfect! It is very romantic and the picnic on the beach in front of the hotel I will remember forever. It was worth every penny! It is very suitable for families with children. We did not have any and still had fun! Mucho fun:)

    • Liked — the view and the sunset are breathtaking
    • Disliked — the room i booked on the internet was a mountain view and it was very cheap but it is really for people who can't afford anything, the difference in an ocean view room is so small and worth it! if you can get the penthouse you would die from pleasure!

“First-class Acapulco accommodations in Room 407”

Hotel Acamar Acapulco

Mar 11, 2008

I can't imagine better accommodations in Acapulco for the money than we got when we were relocated to room 407. The staff were unbelievably accommodating and there were plenty of people who spoke excellent English to help us. We lost a wallet (no fault of theirs) and then had to leave early because of a death in the family, and through it all the staff were exceptionally patient and helpful. I don't have enough words to express our appreciation for all they did for us.
Our room was huge as was the deck which was equipped with comfortable cushioned lounge chairs, a sink and even a gas grill which we never used. It was so pleasant on the deck with its million-dollar view, that we spent more time there than at the beach or the pool.
One of the reasons we chose this hotel over those on the "strip" was because of its location in the traditional section of Acapulco, and we loved its local color with vendors selling all manner of stuff. There's not a great selection of restaurants to choose from, but getting to other parts of Acapulco by bus was simple, even for older folk like us who don't speak much Spanish.
I highly recommend this hotel for anyone who wants an affordable, authentic vacation in Acapulco.

“Nine times to Acamar”

Hotel Acamar Acapulco

I really do like the Acamar. I've been to Acapulco 37 times and stayed in lots of different hotels throughout the city but once I found the Acamar, I never wanted to stay anywhere else. It's away on the West side of the city, far from the noise of the strip and on the best beach in the city. The front of the hotel is right on the Costera where lots of busses and taxis pass and can take you easily to anywhere in the city. The back is right on the beach just a couple of steps down from the pool. Every room is a kitchenette and the beachfront rooms are fabulous. The fourth floor oceanside rooms have huge balconies and the fifth floor balconies are very large as well. Sixth floor balconies are small but enclosed in tinted glass sliding windows that when open give a great view and when closed trap the air conditioning so in the heat of the day your balcony can be ice cold. A few of the rooms are not great but unless they are sold out they seem very willing to switch people to a better room.

“Loved it!”

Hotel Acamar Acapulco

We just returned from a week at the Acamar Beach Hotel in Caleta. We chose this location because we didn't want to stay on the Bay strip with the towering hotels, noisy bars and clubs, which is more reminiscent of Miami Beach.

Caleta is gorgeous and the hotel was very clean and the staff were friendly and spoke enough fractured English to make themselves understood. We didn't stay in the famous room 507 but we did have a beautiful ocean view, large terrace with kitchenette and a 20-litre bottle of purified water, fruit and a bottle of wine compliments of the hotel, which was a very nice touch. Incidentally, all the "07" rooms are large.

Caleta is very close to the cliff divers (a show well worth seeing) and only a short bus ride from The Zoccalo -- a great place to eat and wander around in the evening. And, yes, you can flag down the buses right outside the hotel -- or anywhere -- just hold on to your spine and neck as these "buses" are more like tin cans on wheels and the drivers are crazy!

We have been to Playa Del Carmen and Puerto Vallarta but Acapulco is by far the most picturesque. And Caleta is "real" Acapulco. If you want to see Acapulco in all its splendour, take "The Acaray" boat cruise. We took the 4:30 - 7:00 p.m. cruise which included the magnificent sunset.

The weekends are busy with noisy Mexican tourists and the hotel could use a bar but there is La Cabana right next door, which serves decent food and drinks.

It was scorching hot and very humid every day but was very pleasant when the fierce sun went down. We didn't see our Sunquest rep the entire trip and did feel somewhat stranded.

An all-inclusive would do well in Caleta as there isn't too much to do after 9 p.m. We took the bus several times to Zoccalo or to the Strip.

Quite a few of the Torontonians in our hotel stayed for 2-4 weeks. For us, 1 week was just right.

“A No Star Hotel”

Hotel Acamar Acapulco

Jan 6, 2007

We just returned from a vacation in Acapulco. We loved Acapulco, the people, the buses, and the weather. However the Acamar was a huge disappointment and anyone who would rate it as a 31/2 star hotel has never stayed there. It was shabby at best and actually in our opinion it was a dump. I almost cried when the tour bus dropped us off. There was no hot water, at best there was lukewarm water dribbling from the taps a few times, but mostly there was nothing coming out of the tap at all. It was cold showers for the duration of our trip. We were provided with two threadbare towels and only after tipping were three fluffy towels provided. The staff was very friendly but no-one spoke nor understood English so communicating needs was difficult. The pool was very small and did not look clean enough to use and good luck trying to find a piece of beach to sit on. If you expect absolutely nothing from a hotel then you will be satisfied but in our opinion it does not even come close to meeting acceptable standards.
