Crowne Plaza Acapulco

I booked my stay @ the Crowne Plaza back in May of 2007 on Travelocity because I wanted to lock in a good rate and good flight. I have stayed in Acapulco once before when I was a senior @ Texas A&M University - we stayed at the Emporio Acapulco - which was a forgettable hotel but perfect for college students. I'm 28 and the Crowne Plaza & Acapulco was the best value for my money. Not only is the hotel a giant landmark with great views of the bay and and the ocean - but it's probably got the most perfect location in the entire area. It is walking distance to a small market, several cool lunch restaurants - and the cab ride to Las Brisas - which is the coolest and nicest area of town isn't too expensive either.

This was a special trip so we didn't do the all inclusive - which would have been a complete and utter waste anyway. First, the drinks the hotel makes are going to be cheap and not have a lot of alcohol - and you are going to pay up for them. There is a little food / liquor store LITERALLY right next door to the hotel. I just walked over there and paid half the price for a 6 pack of beer and they had a nice selection of liquors and mixers - that's all we needed to keep us happy during the day and before we went out on the town at night. I wouldn't eat anywhere in the hotel - you are on vacation - so explore!

I was worried reading the other reviews about the rooms on this - but our room was perfectly fine - no problems with the bathroom or any cleanliness problem. Would recommend leaving a small tip for the cleaning folks and you will be taken care of.

The pools are what sets this hotel above the rest. The beach is cool - we did that one day - renting a hut and hated getting hassled by the people selling the stupidest and cheapest stuff - but that's Mexico. What you should do is chill out at the multiple pools this hotel has to offer. There is the big pool with the bar by it - but 2 other separate pools are so much cooler. I proposed to my fiance at the Adults Only pool - we had the whole thing to ourselves! It's the best - a ton of couches and an elevated view of the bay. The other pool is more of a lounging pool - but equally as cool - there were a few folks at that one so we opted for privacy.

I really would recommend this - I spent $1500 for 5 nights / 6 days from Houston to Acapulco - that included flight and hotel. Our hotel really did look as good if not better than some of the other ones.

Crown Plaza's are nice all over the world except Acapulco. The only thing I enjoyed about the hotel was getting away from the merchants on the beach by lying at a pool. Both double-bed bedspreads had numerous, disgusting red/black/brown stains on them, the bathroom smell made me gag each time I walked in and there was nothing good about the room. Although I thought I put everything valuable in my safe when I left for the day, I forgot about my eye glasses, therefore they were stolen from my room. Guess Mexicans need to see too! Restaurant availability times were poor and drink prices were ridiculous. Sure there are four pool areas but two of the four are isolated and the off white cushion seating is also stained. YUCK. I'd never recommend this hotel and I'll NEVER stay there again.

“Classic Acapulco Hotel now at popular prices”

Crowne Plaza Acapulco

The Crowne Plaza Acapulco is one of the classic hotels on the gold coast of Acapulco Bay - it is a landmark. As you walk through the hallways of major airports and see travel posters for Mexico - there is a good chance you will see this one.

Now lets set your expectations. This is a Mexican Motel. What does that mean? Attention to detail suffers. For instance, there are in room coffee machines. One day you find one regular and one decaf - the next no coffee - the following day two decafs. Not a big deal to me, but to some it is. The rooms are clean and nice (not plush). The floors are made of tile and mopped daily. Problem is the mops are poor quality. The ice machines work (most of the time) but take 3 times longer to put out ice.

The hotel has 4 pool areas. They are all very nice. And they provide towels as part of your stay. If you are into European (read that topless) sun bathing - they have a seperate area for that. Very descretely done with a controlled entrance.

The beach is one of the best but is part of the usual stroll for vendors. You can buy anything - from massages to jewelry to lingerie (and back) to food on the beach. Some people hate this, to me it is part of the Mexican charm. You can bring your own beer to the beach and save mucho pesos.

There are 4 or 5 restaurants in this hotel and they looked good, but I have a policy of not eating in hotels (call me crazy).

This place is walking distance from at least a thousand restaurants and shops.

So why didn't I say this place was excellent? Everything was nice, but there was no real class.... Like dieing and finding your self in Heaven only to find out St. Peter's gate was rusty and the Heaven sign was in neon....

Crowne Plaza Acapulco

The Crowne Plaza has a stunning exterior design. overlooking the beach. Check in was prompt and courteous. Despite paying only $70 on the hotel web site, we received room 2802 - a top floor corner unit with views to die for, and a enormous wrap-around deck. The room was bright and cheerful, with plain but tasteful modern furnishings including a dining table and chairs, a complimentary safe, and the nice selection of premium tv channels. So you think you got the deal of the century, until you open the door to the bathroom, which hasn't been updated (or apparently cleaned) since about 1963. The toilet base leaked too, but a nearby drain contained the problem. Tiny ants populated the sink top area, probably attracted by the coffee maker condiment package. Loud music from a nearby pharmacy (!), and street noise will keep you awake till late at night.
On a better note, the room service menu is cheap and extensive. A delicious fruit plate was promptly delivered for under $5. There are several beautiful pools and a nice stretch of beach with ample loungers and umbrellas. Innumerable restaurants in all price ranges are located within walking distance. Most guests appear to be Mexicans on meal inclusive packages. If you do not know some Spanish, you will have a very difficult time communicating with the staff beyond the front desk - which is somewhat surprising for a Crowne Plaza that aspires to be a Conference Center.
In sum, if you can overlook the bathroom, noise, ants, and possible communication problems, you will love this hotel. If you can't, you will absolutely hate it.

we went to acapulco in december of 06 and stayed at another hotel we went to acapulco in april 07 for a quick trip 4 day trip and stayed at the crowne plaza and it was awesome. we were on the 28th floor and the view was beautiful. my husband bought out a flower vendor on the way home one night and i had all my flowers in the sink and the maid wne and got containers and arranged the five dozen roses all around my room for me.
we returned to acapulco in july o7 and we were there for 12 days and my husband was working and i spent alot of time miday alone and the staff woud ask me if i needed anything and began to call by name. The view is beautiful and everybody was real helpful and they do a great job of keeping the vendors from harassing you on the beach. I only ate the poolside menu and it was decwnt for bar food. we always eat with the locals a restaurant i would recommend that is very local is buzos do not let the appearance scare you som eof the best seafood i have ever had.

the staff is very friendly and our rooms were nice and clean and we are just enough from the strip to be be private but also it is eay to walk anywhere locally

we are returning to acapulco in december for 14 days and we are staying this time in a ocen front suite, I do not think we will ever stay anywhere else in acapulco unless we buy a house
