We traded into The Grand Mayan through RCI. This hotel is very nice, but it doesn't have the usual stuff in the rooms that we are use to having in a Top of the Line Resort. The kitchen was very poorly stocked. We didn't even have a skillet or steak knives. The rest of the room was very nice. Outstanding beach, but have to watch the under tow.

For two weeks, I never got the towel boy at the pool to smile.

I would go back to Acapulco, but probably stay downtown.

We booked our stay through a timeshare exchange in a Grand Mayan 1 B/R suite. This is a spacious, well-appointed unit with kitchen and balcony plunge pool. The weather was perfect all week.

Likes:
- Luxury throughout
- Long, wide beach perfect for close-in swimming and body surfing BUT: not suitable for snorkelling; ATV's on beach a nuisance.
- Great on-site activities for all ages, including water park for kids
- Friendly and efficient staff
- Senote-inspired swimming 'canal'

Dislikes:
- Some distance from city centre which means hefty cab fares and delays due to traffic
- Limited restroom/changeroom facilities near beach
- Prices in main restaurant breathtaking. Beach grill/lunches and room service more reasonable

This is a large resort but the well-landscaped grounds and expansive beach help thin the crowds out. We did not rent a car but arranged the services of Roberto Alarcon (robertoalrey@yahoo.com.mx) with his A/C Suburban. Ask him to drop by Mega or Wal-Mart for groceries. Friendly and courteous. Favourite restaurants in town: Su Casa and Linda Vista (both with gorgeous sunset vews of Santa Lucia Bay) and El Zorrito - casual Mexcican food on the main 'strip'. We took care with water and fresh produce but still came down with traveller's tummy. Scuba and snorkelling recommended through Aculpulco Scuba Center (www.acapulcoscuba.com). A 2-tank dive off nearby Isla La Roqueta was US$75. Local sites worth visiting: Peace Chapel, la Quebrada (the cliff divers), nearby Flea Market, and Fort San Diego (A/C with some exhibits in English). A side trip to Coyuca Lagoon was a bit of a disappointment. The boat ride on the lagoon was pleasant enough but the beach was no better than Grand Mayan and the trip back gridlocked. We heard that the trip to Taxco was good but you need to allow about 3 hrs each way. In summary, well worth a week or two!

Went to the Grand Mayan the week of April 19 with my wife Kathy, daughter Kelly and her friend Gail. This was our best vacation. Stayed at the Grand Mayan, one bedroom facing the golf course on the 9th floor. We did have a few problems with the room such as a large leak from the sink, A TV and hair dryer that bew out within 2 days, an iron that left rust spots and an electrice range that was not pluged in. To us this was no big deal because every time we called to report the problem Juan came within 10 mintes and either repaied or gave us a new one. It was kind of funny becaue we got to know Juan from his numerous trips to our room Great guy. The resort was beatiful in all areas, grounds were immaculate, food was good, beach was the best and the pools were what made it. Most of the days we hung out by the pools mostly because of the activities crew there. My hats off to Miguel, Andre, Angel and Alberto. These guys were the best, especially in Kelly's and Gails eyes. Kelly and Gail looked foward to the beer drinking contest, kayak races, and bingo since each time you won you would get a free drink. Between the 2 of them they received 7free drinks. Everyone got to know Kelly and Gail as the Girls from Jersey. Never a problem getting a lounge chair. Happy hour was from 12:00pm to 1:00pm and 4:00pm to 5:00pm. That along with the pool grill made great days at the pool. Now you can see why we hung out and relaxed there. Oh yes we did meet alot of others there and became very friendly with them.To us the beach and ocean were great. We live in New Jersey only 6 miles from the beach and to us the water was much warmer and calmer.
What really made this our best vacation was Roberto Alacon. He was our driver for the week. He was the BEST. Treated him as one of the family. Great guy, will do anything for you, very personalble. He took us on a city tour(a must) wnt to Linda Vista (great restuarant & view) for our anniversary, even set us up with a little surprise there.Also went to a great local restuarant with a rtable directly off the main sidewalk, interest to see all the activity while having dinner. The girls did not go with us here, they decided to go to the disco's with some other girls they met at the Grand Mayan. He will make all the reservations and set you up with the best table. Sad to leave him on our last day. His picture is one of the first ones above. Would definetly suggest using his services over a cab or renting a car. A real down to eath guy. What really helped was that everyone at the resort was friendly and helpful.

My husband & I stayed at the Grand Mayan in Acapulco and found it to be an excellent resort. The grounds are beautiful with a mile long pool, kids pool playground, lake & ocean. RCI members are required to stay on the golf course side. But the view is still nice. I was told by an RCI member that when you check in if you tell them you will only listen to their time share presentation if they give you ocean side, they will give it to you.
We had a private pool on our deck. The maid service was great and they were in twice a day. I found a recommended tour guide while reading reviews on various websites. His name is Roberto Alarcon and we emailed him before we traveled asking for information about what he does, what tours he has & his costs. He promptly emailed us back with all the information & told us he would meet us at the airport & drive us to the hotel. He was at the airport with a large smile & a nice suv with air conditioning. He gave us a city tour which was great and included the cliff divers, shopping, and other key areas of interest. He also returned us to the airport. He is a very nice man who speaks great English which was helpful since we speak no spanish. He was always prompt and his fees were in line with what other tour people charge. We felt extremely secure while we were with him. I highly recommend the Grand Mayan resort and Roberto Alarcon.
