This hotel was a great choice in Acapulco, and really exceeded my expectations. Our room in this 18 story high-rise, faced the ocean, as did most of the rooms in these well-designed twin towers. The rooms were very clean, brightly decorated, and the beds were very, very comfortable. The air conditioning worked well and was a welcome relief from the 90 degree temperatures. Always hot water in the shower. The pool area was very relaxing, with chaise lounges in both the sun or shade, and easy access to the beach.
We didn't opt for the all-inclusive plan, but the breakfast buffet was included every day. It was great to have breakfast under the palm trees, facing the ocean, there were custom made omlettes, and a variety of choices of rolls, fruits, and prepared dishes. It was very hard for us to leave this place when our 4 days were up. At night, the hotel came alive with (every other night) entertainment among the palm trees, right next to the beach.
The international flavor of the bands seemed to please a diverse crowd, from young to old. Our room was on the 17th floor, and while it provided breathtaking views of the bay, I would have prefered a lower floor. Try to get one between 2nd and 6th.
The location of this hotel was perfect! Right in the middle of the bay, there were many stores, shopping, ATM's, banks, and even a Mall with a cinema complex, just within a few blocks. The 7-11 type stores (XOOX) were everywhere and came in handy. There also was easy access by taxi or bus, to the other parts of the city, the Zocalo and downtown one way, and the Wal Mart area on the opposite end of the bay. The buses proved to be very convienient and safe, and they made change. 40 cents for a non- air conditioned, and 60 cents for an air conditioned ride.
The reception desk in the hotel, was located in an out-of-the-way corner of the lobby, and was rather small, but the line always moved quickly and there was never a delay either at check-in or check-out. The clerks did not speak English very well, but there was never a problem. I was able to book a couple of excursions right at the tour company desk in the lobby. Avoid the Paloe (glass-bottom boat) tour, I feel the area they bring you to is old and past its day. One restaurant tip: La-Fogota restaurant, (Taxi drivers will know) open air restaurant in the busy old-downtown. Excellent Bar-B-Q chicken and french fries, less than $4 a person.
All in all, the Playa Suites hotel is an excellent choice in Acapulco, and I would recommend it to anyone. I would book this hotel again in a heartbeat!
