We stayed at Torres Mazatlan through our timeshare Vacation Internationale and were there from Aug. 13th - 19th. We have never been to Mexico before so we did not know what to expect and the first thing my son said when we walked off the plane was "Mexico is HOT!!!". That is a understatment in August. It is VERY hot and Humid but as long as you stayed by the pool or the ocean we did not realize how hot it was....the breeze cooled us down and made for a wonderful time. I was there with my hubby, 3 kids (2 1/2, 5, and 8yrs old), and my mom. From the moment of arriving the staff made you feel at home and even welcomed us home. Once we walked into our 5th floor 2bdrm condo we realized we were home!! The room was soo huge! Full kitchen, living room, and eating nook that opens up to a sliding glass door out to the lanai on one end of the room and down a long hall was a large bathroom and 2 bdrms. The master bdrm had it's own huge bathroom. The bdrm windows overlooked the parking lot but also had a gorgeous view of the mountain side, and the lanai overlooked the whole grounds....pool and ocean view. We were were in awe when we walked in the room and everything was clean and well maintained. The furniture was very comfortable and there was A/C which you really appreciated in Aug.!!! The kitchen was stocked with everything needed to cook and I would recommend going to Gigante to stock up on food because it can get expensive if you eat in the restaurante every night (even though the meals there are great too!). The beds in the bedroom felt like they were LARGER then king size beds, it was awsome. They only thing we noticed with our room was that there were little tiny ants on the kitchen counters so wash up and clean everything after each meal.
The one ammenity that we absolutly loved was the activities desk. With having kids there it was wonderful. They had something going on everyday for the kids. They did a watermelon eating contest, dart throwing contest, mini golf tournament, fruit hunt on the grounds, water volleyball tournament, innertube races, and of coarse BINGO!! We had a ball. We spent everyday all day in the pool where we were cool and the kids could play and have fun and of coarse the beach is RIGHT there, you can see it while your in the pool. The last person that posted said that the pool was overrun with kids.....there is no way that there were that many kids in the pool all day ...maybe 10 - 15 and the little one's mainly stayed in the wading pool section. To tell you the truth, whether your in the pool or laying beside the pool you can hear the ocean and the waves, and also the waterfall that is in the pool itself and that drowns our the noise that the kids are making. Everyone is there on vacation and you should expect children wherever you go.
There was hardly anyone on the beach but the water was warm and it was nice to walk in and let the waves hit your body. Be prepared for the beach vendors though. If you don't want anything then don't even look at them. they are everywhere and if you don't know a stitch of spanish then you should learn how to say "no thank you" IN spanish before you go.
Summer is usually the time when mexican families vacation there so almost everyone there only spoke spanish. We did meet 2 families that were from the Seattle area though and had a good time talking to them. Everyone there is really friendly and with all the ammenities there is really no reason to leave the resort property! We only left 3 times....onces to go shopping at Gigante, once to go to the golden zone for shopping, and the last time for a tour to Stone Island.
Stone Island. First of all, always book ANY tours directly through the resort. They go through King David Tours which you travel by a luxurious Airconditioned bus and are greeted by really friendly people who speak english. I booked through a tour company online and they sub-contracted me out to "Playa Sur Tours". Bad BAd Bad. Always go through the resort and I do not recommend Stone Island AT ALL. You can do all the activities on the beach in front of the resort or go down a short distance to El Cids.
All in all, we had the best time at Torres Mazatlan and it was the most relaxing vacation we've ever had. The kids loved the activities and the pool every day and they were so tired at the end of the night that they fell into bed with no problem and we got to have adult time sitting out on our lanai.
Have a great time!!
