First, let me say that I found it amusing that the complaints of a reviewer below are gays and insects. Rest assured, you'll find no gay people or insects in your room at Posada Roger unless you bring them in yourself.

It's true the area near Playa Los Muertos has gay and straight nightlife, but I fail to see the problem. It's no more or less crazy than what one would expect from Puero Vallarta.

As for insects, I've stayed at Roger numerous times, and I've always found the place spotless. I've never seen vermin anywhere. Some rooms can be dark, and others get some noise from the next door breakfast restaurant (Toucans... a good deal), but there's nothing really to complain about.

The hotel is a great deal for the price: clean and comfortable rooms, a swimming pool, 5 minute walk from the beach, and near tons of restaurants and bars. They even allowed me to use their wireless access. It's a solid 2 star choice.

We have been to PV several times before, but lately have taken to heading out of town to more secluded places. This year we spent just one night in downtown PV, but decided to find a more rustic, and cheaper, place in the Old Town. The Roger is 2 blocks from the beach, and smack dab in the middle of the best part of PV. Tons or restaurants, night clubs, bars, shops, parks, you name it.
The rooms are clean, the shower we had was great, and it has a small but quaint pool on the rooftop. Also a communal kitchen on the top floor where you can store your stuff that needs to be cold in the fridge. All this for $45 bucks CDN a night! we were there in early December, so it would likely go up in high season. Other years we've stayed at the Paya Los Arcos a block away, but on the beach, and paid over $100 bucks. The Roger is a better deal. If the beach is that important to you, go up the coast where the beach is better.
Also the staff was very friendly and helpful here. We will definitely stay here again when in PV.
And the best restaurant/bar in PV, in our humble opinion, is Andale's on Olas Altas across from the Playa Los Arcos.

We loved the Posada de Roger! The staff is great, very helpful, warm and professional. It's location is great, good restaurants and shopping nearby. We found it clean, quant, and in good repair. Sure, its not the Holiday Inn, but if you want the Holiday Inn go to the Holiday Inn.

We didn't know what to expect, but had reviewed the Trip Advisor Reviews before booking. We wanted to experience some real Mexico, and get away from the all-inclusives. The front desk staff was great and very helpful with recommendations for good places to eat and day tours. We recommend the Tulcans (Breakfast place connected to hotel), Robertos(down the street to the left) Great view from second level and Margariettas (across the road from Robertos ) and Cafe de Olla (down the street to the right as you come out of the hotel). Right across the street was a bakery that you could get pastries for as little as 3 pesos ($.30) , fresh fruit, can of Coke 3 pesos ($.30) The hotel was convenient to shopping, beach, restaurants. We didn't realize when we booked that it had become an area that the gay community were hanging out. Also, we were having insect bites that we suspect were bed bugs !!! If you are interested in going to a Time share presentation, its 4 hours (not 90 minutes) and should be getting $ 300 US.

Recommended by a mexican family who had stayed at the Roger a few years ago so no idea what to expect in 2006. It was my first time in Mexico and my girlfriend and I were more than impressed with the lovely old hotel with its profusion of flowers in every nook and cranny of its 3 storeys centered around a cool courtyard. The rooms were basic but very clean and the mattresses were very comfy! The pool was great and very well maintained. To top it all just being able to nip down the hotel stairs to the restaurant next door Fredy Tucan's for breakfast or lunch was great. Food was excellent with plenty of variety and inexpensive. Staff very friendly and helpful. Location couldn't have been better - shops, beach, restaurants and buses across the road to any destination. Have booked for Christmas 2006 with our 2 families (10 in all) cannot wait!
