“An acceptable hotel”

Sheraton Buganvilias Resort & Towers

3 of 5 stars
Paris, Istanbul, Shanghai
Mar 12, 2008

This hotel is just an average hotel and lower than the usual Sheraton Standards (outside the US).

I arrived late and there was only one person to check-in... it took more than 30 min for 3 people...

The room are properly kept but not that clean (they don't hoover every day).

All additional charges are high (minibar, restaurant...).

No bath in my room (for unknown reason). The shower is working but the water spray is not that strong...

A more positive comment, the breakfast is very good with a large choice of cold and warm dishes but the coffee is awful (OK, I am French :P).

The location is good, with several convenience store around and 15 min walk from downtown Puerto Vallarta.

Sure, the view on the sea is wonderful and both sunset and sunrise are great !

“Like Coming Home!”

Sheraton Buganvilias Resort & Towers

4 of 5 stars
Gresham, Oregon
Feb 29, 2008

We have stayed many times at the Sheraton, and will continue to come back here every year. The staff has gone way above the usual for us, and greets us every year like friends.

Our favorite room is in the time share building, facing the owners pool, and hottub. We have had excellent cleaning services; some better than others, but the staff is quick to address any problem. The concierge (changes yearly, I think) have done many many things for us, from arranging hard to get dinner reservations, making better suggestions, to locating special art and clothing items for us, and helping to arrange international shipping, or better packing material for some of my larger art "finds". Just try that on your own!

Our grown children have stayed with us, and in adjoining rooms, and found the resort to be as welcoming and gracious as we have. We are always welcomed back by the same personel...indeed some of the workers have been here with the Sheraton for over 15-16 years.

We have, over the years, seen the beach completely dissapear...it is all rock from the the alley behind the timeshare buildings to the main egress to the ocean. In the main Hotel lobby, near the elevators is a guests picture of the front time share building during Hurricane Kena in 2002...with a 30-35 foot wave about to crash over the building! there is also a big boulder that has been left right where the hurricane left it... There is some beach left in the hotel area, with little palapa umbrellas and tables. The beach area has different vendors, and all are respectful of the guests...there is no forceful sales, just a polite inquiry, and on their way they go.

The bed and couches are very comfortable, and the room is nicely appointed with a full kitchenette, and dining table & chairs.A newer tv with cable services and remote is in the livingroom. there is addequate storage for a longer vacation, or extra guests. The towels are fluffy and fresh, the bed linens changed daily, and you can get pool towels from a cute attendant. The lounge chairs go quickly, with people staking out their sunning areas sometimes before sunrise. the Towers building does block the sunrise, and certain areas around the pool get sun before others.

It's approxamently $10-12 in a taxi, from the airport. Bus stops are right outside the resort. The Mega store is 2 blocks north; just watch out for the sneaky timeshare people, as they act like they are employees (maybe they are!) and offer help to tourists, and then suggest "presentations" or discounted activities. There are time share "presentations" at the Sheraton, too. After a few days, they begin to recognise people, and stop the ambiguous questions, but remain friendly and helpful. We don't eat very often at the resorts restaurants, as they are far overpriced, and Puerto Vallarta is overflowing with wonderful restaurants that are much better. We get wonderful refferals and directions to some of the staff's favorites, and have never been dissapointed. Try AYE! Carumba, Red Onion, Senor Mr. Peppi's, and Andale...the staff can direct you, and hook you up with either reservations or a knowledgeable cabby. There is a bulletin board outside the entrance that gives suggested rates to various places, but always confirnm before you get into the cab. Because of special dietary needs, I've begun to take along a small 1.5 qt crockpot that I can fix in the morning, leave and go play all day, and return to a cooked dinner. The crockpot weighs next to nothing, and goes in the 1 large suitcase...and again, the staff has made some excellent sugestions as to which grocery store, which cut of meat, poultry, fruit, or vegetable to cook. We've enjoyed the Sheraton, and feel more than 100% safe there. It's truly like coming home for us. We will be bringing our 3 Grandsons down next year, and have already checked out the kids activities and facilities, and we're pretty excited to show them the resort.

“Perfect until check out”

My husband and I stayed at the Sheraton Buganvillias PVR from Feb. 7/08 to Feb. 21/08. The only complaints we have are regarding the check-in counter staff and the manager who identified herself as Marisol.
At check in, the clerk advised us that we had a $100.00 US food and beverage voucher per room per week. In order to be eligible for the voucher we would have to leave at the desk eiher a credit card or $100.00 US. Well, negative to the credit card, but we had no problem in depositing the $100.00 dollars which the clerk Leticia promised to return to us at check out. (as per the Air Transat brochure info) To make a long story short, at check out, clerk Leticia changed her story. The $100.00 became pesos and a total of $30.00 was deducted to cover tips which had been included when we asked for the cheque. Well, needless to say, Leticia and I got into a heated discussion and at that point the Manager named Marisol got involved. Marisol's solution and words of comfort were, "this is Mexico, and this is how we do things. Furthermore we do not deal in US dollars." Marisol has a lot to learn about the travel industry.

Puerto Vallarta is beautiful and we will visit again, but the experience of the Sheraton Buganvillias left a sour taste especially because it is a five star rating.

“Great Hotel, Grounds, and Staff”

It was our first time in Puerto Vallarta and didn't know what to expect. I usually book our domestic travel online without a travel agent. But for Puerto Vallarta, we decided to use someone with experience and we did with AAA.

Our agent recommended this hotel and there was a special deal going on for the 4 of us, 2 adults, 2 children.

The hotel was great! Location was great! Service was great! We could not have been more satisified with this hotel. The rooms were a good size, bathrooms, lobby, pools, the entire hotel grounds were very well maintained and very clean. We would definitely go back to the Sheraton.

“Would go back in a minute!”

We just returned from two weeks in PV - 6 nights were spent a the Sheraton. We loved it and would go back in a minute. We upgraded to a Club Level room and had floor to ceiling and wall to wall windows for a terrific view of the entire bay. The King Size bed was super comfy and lots of amenities were included. In the morning there was a complimentary enhanced continental breakfast from 7AM-11AM. In the evening there were complimentary snacks and alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks from 5PM-8PM. There was free internet useage for Club Level guests along with a printer. Towels were changed in the rooms twice a day. The pools were heated and well kept. We didn't eat in the hotel restaurants because there are so many excellent places to eat in PV. The hotel is close to downtown and a bus stops right outside of the hotel. For 5 pesos it can have you downtown in just a few minutes. There is a restaurant right across the street from the hotel called 100% Natural. We ate lunch there several times and found the food to be outstanding and affordable. There is also a Farmacia and an OXXO convenience store across the street. The Mega grocery store is a short 2 block walk from the hotel. This hotel is a 5* for its location.
