We have stayed many times at the Sheraton, and will continue to come back here every year. The staff has gone way above the usual for us, and greets us every year like friends.
Our favorite room is in the time share building, facing the owners pool, and hottub. We have had excellent cleaning services; some better than others, but the staff is quick to address any problem. The concierge (changes yearly, I think) have done many many things for us, from arranging hard to get dinner reservations, making better suggestions, to locating special art and clothing items for us, and helping to arrange international shipping, or better packing material for some of my larger art "finds". Just try that on your own!
Our grown children have stayed with us, and in adjoining rooms, and found the resort to be as welcoming and gracious as we have. We are always welcomed back by the same personel...indeed some of the workers have been here with the Sheraton for over 15-16 years.
We have, over the years, seen the beach completely dissapear...it is all rock from the the alley behind the timeshare buildings to the main egress to the ocean. In the main Hotel lobby, near the elevators is a guests picture of the front time share building during Hurricane Kena in 2002...with a 30-35 foot wave about to crash over the building! there is also a big boulder that has been left right where the hurricane left it... There is some beach left in the hotel area, with little palapa umbrellas and tables. The beach area has different vendors, and all are respectful of the guests...there is no forceful sales, just a polite inquiry, and on their way they go.
The bed and couches are very comfortable, and the room is nicely appointed with a full kitchenette, and dining table & chairs.A newer tv with cable services and remote is in the livingroom. there is addequate storage for a longer vacation, or extra guests. The towels are fluffy and fresh, the bed linens changed daily, and you can get pool towels from a cute attendant. The lounge chairs go quickly, with people staking out their sunning areas sometimes before sunrise. the Towers building does block the sunrise, and certain areas around the pool get sun before others.
It's approxamently $10-12 in a taxi, from the airport. Bus stops are right outside the resort. The Mega store is 2 blocks north; just watch out for the sneaky timeshare people, as they act like they are employees (maybe they are!) and offer help to tourists, and then suggest "presentations" or discounted activities. There are time share "presentations" at the Sheraton, too. After a few days, they begin to recognise people, and stop the ambiguous questions, but remain friendly and helpful. We don't eat very often at the resorts restaurants, as they are far overpriced, and Puerto Vallarta is overflowing with wonderful restaurants that are much better. We get wonderful refferals and directions to some of the staff's favorites, and have never been dissapointed. Try AYE! Carumba, Red Onion, Senor Mr. Peppi's, and Andale...the staff can direct you, and hook you up with either reservations or a knowledgeable cabby. There is a bulletin board outside the entrance that gives suggested rates to various places, but always confirnm before you get into the cab. Because of special dietary needs, I've begun to take along a small 1.5 qt crockpot that I can fix in the morning, leave and go play all day, and return to a cooked dinner. The crockpot weighs next to nothing, and goes in the 1 large suitcase...and again, the staff has made some excellent sugestions as to which grocery store, which cut of meat, poultry, fruit, or vegetable to cook. We've enjoyed the Sheraton, and feel more than 100% safe there. It's truly like coming home for us. We will be bringing our 3 Grandsons down next year, and have already checked out the kids activities and facilities, and we're pretty excited to show them the resort.
