“Not so great, will not stay at again!”

My husband and I just recently spent a week at the Hilton in Ft Lauderdale (highly recommend) and then 2 weeks later spent a week at the Sheraton Buganvilias Resort and convention center.
Both trips were work related and they were completely different. The Sheraton does not even come close to the Hilton!
If we were paying for the Sheraton out of pocket I would have changed hotels the first day. I should mention that my husband travels alot for work and stays often in Hiltons. When I travel with him or when we go on family vacations I usually do not stay in anything lower than a 4 star. This one was an exception since the conference was at this hotel.
The hotel staff was very un-friendly. We stayed in the timeshare rooms and hung out at the pool on that side. We found the pool waiters were much more attentive after the first day when we left a large tip and my husband became friendly with the waiter so that at the end of the day he could let him know I would be there for the next 5 days, most of the time without my husband and that he would appreciate it if he took care of me in his absence. I will say after that I continued to leave good tips and he continued to be GREAT. My drink was never empty and he would be sure to walk by often and if we made eye contact would ask if I needed anything.
OK now the rooms. The were not great but not he worst I have seen. My standards are pretty high when it comes to bathrooms and beds and these two things did not meet my standards. We had to call the front desk to ask for clean blankets the first night, we were brought this ugly child looking comforter, but it was clean. Our TV kept making this weird buzzing noise so we had to hit it to make it stop. You can hear everything through these walls. We had a crying baby that woke us up through out the night for the first 3 nights.
The food was not so great. There is an Italian resturant which was decent but I wasn't impressed with much else.
I guess the good side of the Hotel is the price. We paid about $1700 for the week. But you get what you pay for!
I reccomend if you are going to Mexico to go to Cancun instead.

“Pretty Good”

This was my 3rd stay at this hotel. While the hotel is beautiful, there were numorous problems with my check in. I had 3 rooms for myself and some relatives. My travel agent had reserved a Jr. Suite, upon check they denied that it was reserved. Even when I showed them my comfirmation they still would not honor the reservation. I finally gave up. The other 2 rooms were not ready, as it was still before the 3pm check in, we moved our luggage to my room, we kept checking back, they kept telling us 20 more minutes. at 5pm I told them they had to have our rooms ready, all of a sudden the rooms were ready. The desk clerk was rude and would not really speak to us, just handed us the keys. The pool is beautiful and service is good. Short walk or taxi ride to downtown. Room cleaning was good but sometimes my room was not cleaned by 4 or 5 pm. I had to call many times to requested my room cleaned, for the price this shouldn't have to happen. I may think twice before going back.

“Only because it was cheap”

Sheraton Buganvilias Resort & Towers

Let me say that I am an experienced traveler and pretty familiar with PV - been there 5 times. That's my way of saying that I can be pretty fair and objective.

The Sheraton is not worth staying in unless you get a great deal. Which we did. Our folks stayed in the regular hotel ($100 a night including taxes) and we upgraded to the timeshare for ~$160 including taxes.

Accomodations: The only good thing to say is that all rooms face the water. The rooms are passable. If you like stucco and concrete walls, enjoy. The furniture is pretty low-end and the decor non-existent. And they are small. This was a Sheraton? A Days Inn is nicer.

The timeshare rocked because of the kitchenette, the balconies, free gym, and the washers/dryers. Also, you are far away from the noisier parts of the hotel.

Hotel layout and Amenities: Mixed. The beach is rocky not sandy. Nobody goes on it. There are two nice pools with plenty of chairs.
Unlike other hotels, the music was not too intrusive.
Also, the vendors did not come on to the property, which meant minimal hassles.
Wireless Internet for $12 a day was pretty weak reception. Or $10 an hour in their internet cafe. Better to leave the hotel and walk 5 minutes to an internet cafe where it's $1.50 an hour.

Service: Nobody who works here smiles. They must not like the place too much either.
They messed up our reservations pretty badly, and kept messing them up. We were convinced that everyone who worked there was someody's niece or nephew. Nice folks but pretty dumb. And not service oriented. For example, we showed up at 6pm just as the bar was closing. The bartenders would not serve us.

Restaurants: over priced and bad food. And they take forever. Our first night we ate at the hotel and there was just one other table. Took forever to get served. And they kept making mistakes, forgetting things, and never checking in. And if you love $18 hamburgers, you should eat at the pool. Otherwise, stay away.

Convenience to town: This was supposed to be a selling point. Wrong. You really aren't walking distance to downtown. Unless you like to walk 30 minutes in the heat in sandals. The bus is fast and cheap and convenient, but an extra few minutes and we could have been staying south or north at better hotels. It isn't like a quick stroll to restaurants. Every place you want to eat in is near the river, and that's a hike from the Sheraton.

Using the kitchenette was great. The Mega is maybe a 5 minute walk. It's a cross between a Target and a supermarket. We soaked the fruit and veggies in iodine and never got sick.

The hotel is family friendly, and that was a big plus.

I would stay again only because of the price and availability of the time-shares (the 2 room suite with kitchenette). Otherwise, there are better places.

“Has a great stay”

Stayed 3/30-4/5/08 in two rooms; one for parents, other for two teens. Easy to book direct, airport trans to hotel was included. Staff was very accomdating in getting us two rooms near each other. Very clean rooms, kept up well on days we didn't put out privacy tag. Pools and staff are very nice. Beach is OK--not very sandy, but safe for a swim. Breakfast/brunch buffet and menus were good. Evening happy hour was a nice habit every night. Easy 10-15 min walk into town. We didn't have any problems with staff as others have reported; we speak a little Spanish, and we all tried within our abilities. Like in other foreign countries we've visited as a family, trying to respect the locals seems to go a long way.

“Not worth it”

We stayed in the timeshare side and it was nice. The staff was not the friendliest by any means and actually some were quite rude. Timeshare people are out of control. The pools were nice and the rooms were very clean.

Cab rides from the airport for a family of 5 cost $35 dollars no questions asked. Stay away from the Mayan timeshare and Antonio on your walk to the downtown boardwallk area. Very dishonest. Also stay away from the StarBay resort. They do not honor whatever gift you have arranged.

We also were able to watch the whales and dolphins from our room which had a beautiful view of the bay. Pipi's is a good place to eat but all resturants are very expensive. Best food is the taco stands on the side streets, cheap and good.
