A large group of our friends went down to Vallarta to celebrate our 25th anniversary. We managed to book several large timeshare at Los Tules. As promised, the staff picked us up at the airport and drove us to the hotel. We were impressed!
Upon our arrival we were ambushed by what I can only describe, as disguised hotel employees. We thought they were all part of the check in process. We were all tired from the flight and just wanted to get to our rooms. They went on and on and before we knew it, we agreed to go to their " free breakfast.". My advice to you is to tell them that you want to go to your room and rest and they can call you later to talk about their presentation.
The next day, after we recovered from the ambush, we decided not to go to their presentation. That's when the calls began. They called and told us we would have to pay for the breakfast if we did not go, then they said we would have to pay for the transportation from the airport. They even followed us around on the grounds. I finally told them I was here on vacation and could spend my time as I chose. They called me rude.
We finally complained to the mgr of the hotel. He explained to us that the time share people were not employees of the hotel itself but part of the main corporation. He told us that the time share folks could not charge us for the breakfast or the transportation unless we agreed to pay for it. He said he would not add it to our credit card because they asked him to. He told us to ignore the salespeople. If they continued to bother us he would let his mgr know that they were interfering with the comfort and relaxation of his guests.
Anyway the rest of the stay was great. The maids were awesome and the location of the hotel was good too. The view from our rooms, was to die for. Yes, there were some ants and geckos, but I would still go back again. I just know how to handle their rude time share people better now

My boyfriend and I booked a room through his parents time share. From the moment we booked the room we had problems. We called a week in advance to make sure everything was set. There was no reservation. When they found something resembling it, they didn't have it in the right name. When we got to the airport there was no one there to pick us up even though they told us there would be. When we got to the resort we asked the front desk clerk about the taxi to the resort the told us that they sent some one for us the day before we came in. Then we learned the room we were staying in was a temp situation because someone else was coming to claim it in 2 days. When we asked to stay where we were or just check into a room we didn't have to switch out of the male desk clerk caught an attitude and became uncompromising. Then we were directed to a rude women tiring to sell us vacation packages along with a time share. Things got worse the longer we were on the premises. While we were there we had to pay to rent an iron and ironing board for the day and with internet service even though we were told they would be included in our room and we would not have to pay for them. The kitchens were infested with ants, and the dishes were not washed after they were used. The dirty knives were placed in size order on the counter. Then when we checked out we were charged for phone calls from our room that we did not make. (The phone didn't even have a dial tone) We had to go to the front desk to make a call where again we were charged. And to put the icing on the cake we were charged for 2 WEEKS worth of taxes when we were only there for 5 DAYS!! The resort is in a good location but the service just sucks. If you have to stay there don't expect to much.

“Nice Place, Great Location”

Los Tules Resort

We stayed at Los Tules for 5 days in September. My husbands family booked their two weeks of time share at this location and we tagged along. We stayed in a large condo w/ kitchen (sleeps 10, 3 bed/ 4 full bath). Cleaning staff was in each day and did a good job of keeping up with towels and such. The grounds were always clean and the staff were always helpful. There are 7 pools (two children's pools) spread throughout the resort. The restaurant on the grounds serves a combination of very good mexican and standard american meals. Average price for two people including tip was about $18. Happy hour is 4-5pm 2 for 1 drinks.

Because we were staying condo, it was important to be able to buy food/drinks for the room. Just across the street is a small shopping mall with a Gigante (much like a super Walmart). We were able to get groceries as well as an occasional snack. If you get a chance, try the rotisserie chicken place just outside the main entrance. Great deal and great food!!!

Another recommendation is Casa Blake's (sports bar). It is just south of Los Tules (same side of the street about 3 stop lights). The food is excellent, well presented and served by some of the nicest people ever. Casa Blake's is owned by a lovely Canadian couple who are more than happy to chat or to turn up the volume on your favorite NHL, CFL, NFL game. There are mexican favorites as well as some standards (spaghetti, wings, etc). Excellent food and a great price (draft beer 1.50 and bottles 1.80). See website for more info on specials and location.
---

If your looking for fine dining with great atmosphere... try the River Cafe. The food quality is that of any fine dining establishment here in Chicago. Price are similar. (We averaged $80 per couple w/ drinks and desert). They serve a magnificent breakfast as well as lunch and dinner.

Overall, would stay at Los Tules again mostly due to location.

“pretty location but..”

the room we reserved was not available when we arrived but we were given a suite overlooking a pool for one night, second night we were moved to another suite which had two couches which made out into beds had a very poor nights sleep...night three we upgraded to a king suite on the fourth floor with a sort of ocean view but mostly of the neighboring hotel pool facilities. We were harrassed by a rather rude time share lady before we could even get registered, we initially thought she was part of the staff. Room was usually made up in the very late afternoon, so we spent the day with used towels and unmade bed. We would look elsewhere next time in Puerto Vallarta.

“Poor quality”

We stayed at Los Tules in Feb of 2005. Our room was ok. It was clean and had the basic two beds and a bath. However it was very noisy. First off our room was facing the traffic so we could hear cars go by all night. Our air conditioner was very loud and had dust built up. It must have been 50 years old. We could block out the traffic noise by turning it on however the a.c. sounded like a truck. Also in the mornings we could hear repair men working on the building. There were a lot of repairs going on around the rooms near ours and all around the propery while we were there. All we could hear was a lot of banging and drilling, Another issue was that only one of the pools were open because of the repairs and it was not a heated pool. With 80 degree weather outside the pool really wasn't warm enough for swimming. You could get in but after about 10 minutes its too cold too stay in. It was just good for laying around. The food at the restaurant was good. Most of the staff were friendly. The grounds looked nice despite the multiple repairs going on around the property. There was also no alarm clock in the room and the cieling fan did not work. I would probably not recommend staying here. It was not unbarable by any means. There are just a lot nicer places to stay in Puerto Vallarta for the same amount of money.
