“High Expectations? Be careful!”

Club Embarcadero Pacifico

3 of 5 stars
Detroit, Michigan
May 2, 2008

We went to Embarcadero for our 10th anniversary. My wife and I enjoyed our time in Mexico because we got to be together and relax without our kids for a few days. If you are planning on NOT staying at the hotel for most of your visit, this is a good place for you.

The rooms needed a major face lift. The A/C did not work, the cable was fuzzy, and the windows didn't close all the way, allowing the late night noises to be heard. The rooms were cleaned daily, which was nice. Bring your own washcloths, since there are none provided.

The food was just okay. I am a very picky eater, so I had a hard time at the meals. Breakfast was the best, since there was the most variety. The service was excellent. They never let you go thirsty.

There is no internet center! We were told where we could access the internet, but when we tried and asked for assistance, we were told to try tomorrow at 10:00. We did, and still nothing. We eventually found a hot spot in the marina, but we had to pay.

The beach needs some work. It doesn't appear to be maintained at all. The water comes very close to the resort wall and has eaten the first few stairs away. Bring your parachute!

If you're laid back and just want to be at the hotel to sleep, this is the place for you. If you have high expectations, keep looking.

“No major problems”

Club Embarcadero Pacifico

Fargo, North Dakota
Apr 22, 2008

My fiance and I stayed at the resort the first part of March and were not disappointed at all. We arrived early, before check in time, and were given a different room as the one we were supposed to have was not ready yet. The people at the front desk were very nice and we didn't have any problems.

The room was nice, which was kind of a surprise, considering the reviews the hotel has gotten. The bathroom was huge, and the bathtub was to die for. It was very clean...no mold or broken fixtures anywhere. Shampoo and soap were provided, but I did not use them as I had brought my own.

The room was pretty basic, but had everything we needed. There was no remote for the television, but we were in Mexico and didn't intend to stay inside and watch anyway. The bed was very hard and was uncomfortable at first, but after a week at the resort, I was used to it. My fiance did experience back problems after we got home, but he has back problems anyway. The air conditioner didn't really work, but that was fine, as we were only in the room at night; it got cool enough at night to open the windows and let the breeze blow in. The ceiling fan was a big help when the room did get a bit warm (which never really happened).

The pools were very cold, but not to the point where you couldn't use them. The sun warmed them up a bit and after being in them for awhile, you didn't really notice the chilliness. The pool bar was kind of slow as far as service, but the drinks were nice and strong. There is a lack of "beachy" area with sand and what have you, but again, that didn't matter to us because we didn't spend a lot of time at the resort.

The food was not the best, but it wasn't overly terrible. There was the problem of having the same things everyday, but then again, we weren't expecting a five star hotel. The breakfast was the best and it was touch and go with lunch. I don't recommend the hamburgers. I'm not sure if it was the spices they used or the meat, but they were not very good. We didn't eat supper there too many times, as we were usually out and about. The waiters brought us the cappucino we requested on more than one occasion, which was very nice of them.

We didn't look for activities to do at the resort, because we didn't spend a lot of time there. What we saw of the entertainment during the supper hour was lacking in originality, but that might have just been the night we did have a chance to see it.

The experience we had was better than we had expected. We didn't have any problems with staff, things not working in the room, things being stolen, or anything negative. It is an older place, but it is beautiful. We would definitely go back again.

“Had a great time - decided we do want to go back! Great Value!”

Club Embarcadero Pacifico

Apr 18, 2008

Just got back and couldn't wait to write this review after seeing some of the very negative ones further on down the list, I feel like the hotel deserved it.

Here goes:

Rooms, basic, but clean nice and homely! Would have liked a small balcony and wasn't offered an upgrade as it was slow - if I had really cared I could have asked though. We had a little trouble with the sound on the TV but could still watch stuff. Never figured out how turn on the air (again didn't ask either) and the ceiling fan worked fine. The room was big enough and overlooked the pool which looked pretty at night. The bathroom was the most modern - shower very powerful - clean and did come with soap/shampoo etc.....Beds were hard but comfortable and clean (i have a bad back so actually appreciated this).

The front of the hotel is lovely and the rest of it had a bit of a quiet feeling - they should really put on some music in the restaraunts. We had lunch before we unpacked and were a bit worried after as the food was not great - drinks were good. Its a great location, you have Marina and shops on one side and then beach (v small) on the other - the good thing about the beach side is that you can walk along past some other resorts for five minutes and you have lovely beaches outside the back of very upscale bars and restraunts. I think the beaches are for the public.....

Food - Do get breakfast - no complaints, tasty, little greasy

Lunch - probably the worst - don't get a burger - we never tried it after the first time

Dinner - pretty good considering the price - the orders did get messed up a bit though - but servers were polite as were all the staff at the hotel.

Just don't bank on having every meal there - it was very convenient for us and definately saved us money on food etc...Maybe if you were planning to spend every day by the pool drinking and eating you would get frustrated - we were out doing stuff most of the time, so if your planning just the odd day there it would be fine - plus cheap restaraunts are just around the corner in the marina.

If you get a good price and are pretty laid back definately go there. I would probably book it again unless I saw a much better resort in the same area offering the same price deal......

Oh yeah - notes on pv - glad i didn't end up staying in town it was nice but not that nice- had a great day on a snorke/horseride/drink all day boat (even though the snorkelling was bad) and please take a bus to SALULITA - we didn't get there till late because we got sucked into a timeshare promo - but when we did I thought it was one of the most perfect little beach towns in the world. Huge margaritas, surf and body boards for rent - can't wait to go back there! Also great asian restaraunt in the center of PV - forget name opposite a bar called' party '- great steaks and tuna - it came to over 100 us dollars but we didn't care as we had saved money by staying at embarcadero and it was our anniversary.

“Getting Old, Needs a Facelift”

Club Embarcadero Pacifico

JENKINTOWN, PA

The staff is still very quick to help when they can and everything about the place is friendly. The biggest problem is that it is getting old and needs work that is beyond the ability of the staff. They have light fixtures that do not work and air conditioning that blows warm air. The ceiling fans are hit or miss. You may get a unit that the fan works in the living room, but not the bedroom. We tried 3 different rooms and finally gave up on finding one that had working air conditioning. The first two rooms were missing the coffee maker so we bought one, only to be put in a third on that had a small one. The third room had a broken light fixture in the bathroom sink area and the only light came from the hallway. The same for the dresing are in the bedroom. They had removed the fixture. They also removed the television from the bedroom and disconnected the cable line so you could not move the living room tv into te bedroom. The room (in the Villas) was huge and had a pit group that would have slept three extra people. The views are wonderful fom the oversized veranda. the Veranda was probably 20' x 30' and had tables, chairs and lounge chairs. This was probaby a magnificent hotel 20 years ago and with some work would be nice again. They had only one area open at any one time for food and the menu was the same every day. The bar area was very small and not always open. If the pool bar was open the other areas were closed. Even getting towels was difficult. By 2:30 in the afternoon the towel stand had closed and you had no way of getting one.

“wow...in a not so good way”

Club Embarcadero Pacifico

Apr 2, 2008

Alright, first off I want to explain that I am a college student and I went to puerto vallarta for a cheap spring break experience. I was not looking for luxury just a room to pass out in when the partying was over. The Club embarcadero started out nice. Our room wasn't ready when we arrived, but we didn't mind we just went and started taking advantage of the free drinks. When we got our room we didn't mind that it was no bigger than a walk in closet because we knew we wouldn't be spending much time in it. Our balcony was less that a balcony, it could only hold two people, had no view except of a pidgeon nest, and there was bird crap all over it! After seeing the room things seemed to go down hill. WE ate our first dinner up on the basketball court. Not a mexican food experience. Us girls liked to call is "SHLOP" Pasta, fried fish, biscuits, and other mystery foods were available. This is what they served EVERY night. We were sick of it after the second day. The snack bar was the same every day too, but it was a little more enjoyable. The bartenders were less than friendly even when tipped. There were many things wrong with our room. The water from the shower leaked everywhere, some of the electrical plugs didn't work, our screen door was broken and the light in our bathroom was out. We called the first night to get more towels cause there were four of us and they only gave us three and to have someone come up to fix our light. There was no response to either of these requests. We were patient girls so we jsut showered in the dark. By the forth day our light still wasn't fixed so we called again, lets just say it wasn't fixed when we left. Our towels came but like three days later. I've been to PV before and stayed at playa los arcos and LOVED it. the beds were hard there, but at this resort they were unbearable. They need to add free chiropractic care with the all inclusive. the most horrific experience we had here was getting out money stolen by eiether the secruity crew or house keeping. WE thought our safe was broken because there was no lock, but no they forget to tell peoiple when they check in that you need to purchase the lock for 2 bucks a day. So although they didn't fix our light they went to the troublt of having security come up and put a lock on our safe when they maids said they saw money and cell phones scattered all over the room....not true....we all have travelled enough to be very careful with our belongings and to keep them out of sight. They had no sympathy for our money getting stolen and blamed it on us "well maybe your friends stole or miscounted their money"....OK now for a couple pluses...the pools are great...loved the location on the marina, but a little far from downtown 7 dollar cab ride or 55 peso bus ride. the breakfast was very good along with the drinks. The free dinner you get at their restaurant is also very nice and the staff there are great. Overrall our trip to PV was amazing, but I wouldn't not stay at CLub Embarcadero again.
