We've had the opportunity to stay at the Abbey Hotel in Puerto Vallarta two weekends in a row and on both occasions our experience there has been wonderful.
The Abbey hotel is GLBT oriented and is located in the beautiful and historic old town, steps from the beach, shops, excellent restaurants and essential services. During our first stay, our 5th floor room overlooked the hotel's beautiful central pool and dining area, with a view of the whole of the south side of town. During our most recent stay our 4th floor room's two balconies featured a stunning view of the ocean and mountains.
Both of the bright and charming rooms we stayed in were meticulously clean and equipped with air conditioning, cable TV, movies on demand, secure wall safes and extremely comfortable beds and linens. Both rooms featured spotless bathrooms with all-new amenities and spacious tiled shower stalls with all the hot water you could ever need. Our room on the ocean side enjoyed a pleasant breeze all day long. The Concierge is staffed 24 hours a day and we both felt completely secure during our two visits.
There's much more to the Abbey Hotel than the excellent physical amenities though. We felt welcome and comfortable there from the moment we arrived. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and there was a sense of easy-going neighborliness among the guests that I've never quite experienced in a hotel or bed & breakfast before. Abbey Hotel co-owner Luis Aillaud makes a point of meeting with each and every guest, making sure they feel at home and that they get the most out of their visit to Puerto Vallarta.
The ground floor features an open concept bar and dining lounge that integrates into the attractive lobby and pool deck/Jacuzzi area and which facilitates an equally open-concept social atmosphere. We also found the bar service and food to be very good. During our first trip there was one very minor inconvenience with the hotel's Wi-Fi service which was resolved by the end of our weekend stay. However, there were so many Wi-Fi-equipped coffee shops and restaurants within a few minutes walk that the temporary inconvenience was negligible.
We would have no absolutely no problem recommending the Abbey Hotel, both for its comfortable amenities and friendly atmosphere and we plan on visiting again many times in the future.
