In February my girlfriend and I stayed for a week at the holiday Inn Puerto Vallarta. The hotel staff and the amenities were magnificent. The rooms were awesome for an older hotel the entertainment and drinks were also very nice. I have nothing but good things to say about this hotel the food was delicious. I would definitely go back again

When we booked our trip to holidays inn I was very exited because the pictures of the ocean and the hotel looked amazing, very clean and beautiful palm trees. Selloffvacations website stated it is a 4 star resort. BUT when me and my fiancé got there I was about to run away. I have never slept on a rock bed before, smelly room, some weird stains on the bed, I have never seen so many kids in my entire life in the resort, when you swim in the pool they jump right on your head, 99% of people were Mexicans in our resort, food was the same everyday, bar area closes at 12:30 am and lights are turned off, constriction next door, no chlorine in the Jacuzzis, we had to wait about 10 minutes for the elevator to arrive to get to the 5th floor because kids press the buttons on every floor along they go. Service is extremely poor. Basically if this is your first trip ever you went to it would be "ok" but again not for the money you will pay, but not when you have been to 15 of them all over Mexico. It was so not worth the money we paid 1300 per person. This would be the last place on earth to come back to. Try something else.

“Reward night - not bad!”

Holiday Inn Puerto Vallarta

Apr 22, 2008
4/5 found this review helpful

I stayed at the Holiday Inn on one night of my vacation because I had enough reward points to stay for free. After staying nearby at a 4-5 star hotel, I was really preparing myself for the worst. However, I was pleasantly surprised at the HI. It really was not that bad. The pool, restaurant, bar area was very nice. I really enjoyed the nachos and tortilla soup that I had that one night. We did not get in the pool because that was our day to sight-see, but I really wish that I could have. No complaints from me. I actually would stay there again if we were going the budget route.

“Had a good time!”

We stayed at the holiday Inn from march 28- april 4th. It was a very fast week, and had no problems with the hotel. Reading some of the reviews prior to going on our trip , I was really hesitant and kind of bummed out to be reading all the bad things that was said..so I didnt know what to expect. We got there our room had a nice ocean/pool view it was 525. It was very clean, the only thing I would tell someone is if you have a little mini bar fridge... They are not free... It sucks because at first you get all excited but then after you see a paper that tells you all the prices that you have to pay. Water is like $2.50.. pretty pricey. So what we did... We went to the walmart, which is about a fifteen minute walk or a 5 minute cab ride and picked up some bottled water.. 6 x1.5 L bottles for onle 2.50.... it will last you the whole week, seeing as you cant drink the hotel water. That worked out really nice!!! There is also an atm there as well if you wish to take out money becasue there isnt one at the hotel. If you want to exchange money i wouldnt suggest doing it at the hotel, they dont have the best rates ever so you might want to find a different place if you are doing larger amounts. The food was good.... although after a week of seeing and having the exact same things it got sooooo repetitive, especially for the breakfast, its good but just to warn you its all the same. You can reserve 2 restaurants they have at the hotel only once per week. The Italian and the mexican. The Italian is wonderful!!!! Go there!! It is really fancy with food is great and the desserts are so nice looking, and the spanish wine is to die for!..The mexican is also good, not as classy as the italian but very good as well, you get lots of food though!! If you like coffee try it from either of the places, its a really nice production they put on for it!
Cons:
*The pool closes at 8 and there are no lights in it at all
*If you want night life...dont stay at the hotel, it is not so good haha they have a few shows but they are short, one night we even played bingo... so I would suggest if you want a party night life there are some clubs close that you can ask about.
*Repetitive food(But not horrible)

Pros:
*Friendly staff
*clean rooms
*travel rep was very helpful and kind
*Canopy tour!!!!!!!!! Do it its worth the money its super fun!!
*Go to the Malicon..Its a ocean boardwalk with tons of shops by it.
*Italian restaurant!
*View is wonderful, nice beach.
*The snack bar has the best burgers!!!!
*massages on the beach were excellent!!! 70 u.s for two people for one hour or so!

Over all this was a good hotel we had no problems, I think some of the people who wrote bad reviews of it were either to critical or something, we found it alright no complaints!
Just rememeber ,a lot of people who work there rely a lot on the tips they get from travellers, so leaving 2 dollars or even a one to every person who serves you or helps you out is appreciated!!I would come back!

“Good Value”

Holiday Inn Puerto Vallarta

Apr 7, 2008
4/5 found this review helpful

Have recently spent a week at the Holiday Inn and all in all it was a positive experience.
Was travelling alone and need something suitable - it was.

Check in was ok, had booked a junior suite but when I arrived at the room - it was not a JS. The bellman however told me that I had a nice terrace. It was dark but took a quick look - kept the room. If you want the most gorgeous view ,book room 1840 - it has a corner terrrace - top floor, that is about 4 times the size of the room. Two lounges, tables, 2 chairs - absolutely fabulous !
Bandares Bay is at your feet.

The buffett restaurant was ok - always seemed better at lunch,
same old for breakfast.

As for a la carte, only tried the Italian - the entree was excellent - great lamb chops.

The pool was always crowded - hotel seemed to be full, but always impeccably clean.

Ocean was a little cold and rough for swimming.

Overall probably a 3/12 - 4 star property but good value

Would go again under similar circumstances.
