This was my first trip to PV and to the Vallarta Torre. My co-worker is a VI owner and I went along with her for close to a week. The one bedroom was just as pictured in a couple of the sites I found re: the VT timeshare. It was clean, homey, and relaxing. There are fans in the living room and bedroom, but the air conditioning was also available (we didn't use it much). The kitchen was well stocked with appliances and dishes though we really didn't cook much. My bed was hard, it pained my hip after a few days. The clientele at the hotel do seem older (we're in our 50s and fit right in), but I suspect 20- to 30-somethings would find it perhaps too dull. Not many swam (lots read books by the pool), and the happy hour at the bar was certainly a good spot to hang out. So was the beach which was a few steps away. You'll find lots of beach vendors trying to sell their wares here, just be polite and they won't bother you.
I appreciated the security at both the front and the beach side of the site. There is a small restaurant that doesn't have a large selection to choose from, but we found it reasonably priced and the nachos, guacamole, enchiladas, and shrimp very tasty. The large hotel next door on the north side (Crown Paradise Club?) played very loud music at various times, and occasionally set off fireworks at 9:00 p.m., which I loved. Try to get a room above the 2nd floor; the higher up, the better view of the ocean.
Though the Vallarta Torre is smaller and appears older, the staff strive to keep it clean. Every morning they scrubbed the front cobblestone area, swept all walkways, manicured the palm trees and shrubbery, and did a great job of answering any questions or concerns we had about the area. About a block away is a new Soriana grocery store, and onsite is a small coffee shop which used to be a small store, apparently. A few blocks away is the marina terminal area where the cruise ships dock, and where a small flea market area sells more "stuff" than you can imagine. It's easy to catch a bus by Sorianas, just hop on and hang on! Though I enjoyed this area and hotel, if I were to return to PV, I'd like to try a small condo on the south side of town for a more "local" feel, and hopefully not be so close to the other hotels/tourists.
