My family (a party of 6) stayed at Canto Del Sol from June 28 to July 5, 2008. We booked through RCI and traded our points from our timeshare in Hawaii to get three rooms. All of our rooms were comfortable and roomy and we didn't have to request a change of rooms for anyone. I was very apprehensive about staying here after reading all of the past reviews on this resort but I have to say, I think that the criticism is not entirely fair because a lot of what travelers are complaining about is what you would find in all of the hotels in this area. Yes, the beach is rocky - all of the beach in Puerto Vallarta is rocky. If you want a good beach setting, go north to Baceras or another small town where the beaches are beautiful and spacious. Yes, the pool was crowded but it is a family resort and offers programs for kids so if you don't want to share the pool with noisy, active kids, don't stay here. Yes, the all inclusive drinks were not top of the line but if you ask for better liquor, they will give it to you. The food was better here than in the all inclusive at Cancun and every night was a different theme. Yes, there are strange things served like refried beans for breakfast and warm tortillas with spicy meats in tomatoe based sauces but this is Mexico!! If you want food that is Americanized, they have a McDonalds, Carl's Jr. and Hard Rock cafe - eat there! The one thing we all agreed with the reviews on is that the beds are hard - really hard. The staff were all friendly and helpful and only bothered us a couple of times to do the timeshare talk - wish I could say that for the rest of the town!
