“Would stay there again”

Club Regina Puerto Vallarta

4 of 5 stars
Folsom California
Jun 16, 2008

I was pleasantly surprised by our accomodations at the Club Regina. We had a large 2 bedroom unit which was reserved through RCI. The trip was for a family reunion and the unit was large enough to accomodate 12 people for dinner one night with lots of charis and tables. The rooms were clean and the airconditioning worked great (although it rained 5 of our 7 days there). The refrigerator was large by time share standards and had a dishwasher. There were a few maintenance issues which were taken care of promptly. It is a long walk to the elevator and rooms so if mobility issues are a problem, you may want to reconsider. We did eventually find a shorter route out to the street and if you take the elevator down to the 1st floor rather than to the lobby, it is only a short walk to the pool and beach. A trip to Walmart is a necessity to buy your groceries. Taxi fare to most places runs 6 to 8 dollars. I found the maids, bellboys, and general help were helpful and friendly but the front desk staff were a little cold. Fortunately you don't have to deal much with them. When you take a taxi from the airport (it is cheaper to walk across the road on an overpass which is easily visible once you exit the airport) remember to ask to go the Club Regina TimeShare and not the Club Regina Westin which is a separate hotel. We did not eat at the resort but rather ate at the Marina across the street (Victor's is great) or downtown. Local calls from the Club Regina run $2 while my sister's calls from the nearby Mayan Palace were only $.50.
By the way, I am now a firm believer in travel insurance. My 84 year old father fell and broke his hip on this trip and had to be flown back to the states for surgery by air ambulance. The costs at the hospital were around $3000 and the price for the airfare was $37,000 US dollars which will be reimbursed along with his cancelled return flight.
I would not hesitate to stay here again and would recommend it to friends.

“Great Place to Visit”

Although I have been to Cabo San Lucas, Cancun, Cozumel, and Playa Del Carmen in the past, this was my first trip to Puerto Vallarta. I own a timeshare through Raintree and my boyfriend and I decided to give Puerto Vallarta a visit.

We arrived at about 10:30 pm in the evening and luckily I read some of these reviews and had an idea of how much cab fare should be to the resort. The first person told us it would cost $18 for the 10 minute ride and I turned him down telling him I would take the shuttle. The next guy offered us a ride at $5.00 per person and, although I knew it should be cheaper, we accepted since it was late and we wanted to get checked in.

I would suggest that you call the resort ahead of time and ask for a room on an upper floor with a view, especially if you're going to check in late. We didn't and ended up in a older, dirty, second floor room with NO view what-so-ever. I called the front desk and asked if they could change my room and I was told they only had first floor rooms left. I thought that was somewhat odd since I noticed the resort was pretty empty during my entire stay. The next morning I went down to the front desk and spoke to Yadira, who was absolutely AMAZING! She and her supervisor had me moved to a room on the 11th floor with a great view within an hour. We stayed in a one bedroom suite and the jaccuzi tub on the balcony was really nice. We had absolutely no more problems or issues at the resort.

I read the reviews and decided to try the Cheeky Monkey for drinks. What a great place! It's a wonderful area to people watch and at $1 for tasty margaritas or Coronas, it was really affordable. Keep in mind that they do close at about 9 pm every night if you plan on getting to town late.

The bus transportation is incredibly EASY. We used the bus all the time. The only time we ended up using a cab was to and from the airport and on two occasions where we wanted to stay in town later than 9:30 pm.

I love taco stands and found a couple of decent ones in inconvienient locations. If you like tacos, I would recommend Taco's and Beer, which is right down the street a ways from the resort. We walked there on a few occasions and the tacos were great and fairly cheap. We also ate at the Blue Shrimp, which was also delicious and reasonable. Going to Walmart was also a great suggestion.

Beware of the timeshare people. They are EVERYWHERE. One guy followed us for about a block and absolutely would not take "no" for an answer. The most we were offered was $400 and we evertually gave in. We went to the Mayan presentation, of which I'm already an owner. After politely declining to upgrade my membership at the outrageous price they quoted, they brought out "Lisa". She was incredibly RUDE and basically started arguing with me about what I could and couldn't afford to buy. It was a horrible experience that made me extremely angry. For the next few hours, all we could talk about was Lisa and how horrible she was. So....you have to decide for yourself if the $400 is worth the abuse.

Otherwise ... Everything was great. I would definitely go back to Puerto Vallarta and to the Club Regina!

“Good resort if you can take the prices”

Club Regina Puerto Vallarta

May 17, 2008

Stayed at many resorts in Puerto Vallarta and this is at the top. Grounds and pools are gorgeous and go on forever...and so does the walking. I have to mention it takes about 15 minutes to get from your room in Club Regina to the street. We were there a week and still had not mastered a quick way out. Had a very nice 1 bedroom suite with 2 baths, semi-enclosed balcony and jacuzzi on the terrace. Maid service is extra ($30 a weeki). Place is very clean. Only negative is prices. We were invited to a welcome party. Thought is was free the way they explained it. Wrong. $35 per person. The Regina gives owners 20% discount on food and gym is free. RCI is not included in this. Burgers are $14.

“Looking for something peaceful or relaxing?”

If you're looking for sales pitches and come-ons even before you leave the airport, Puerto Vallarta is just the place for a vacation.

The Club Regina is a wonderful facility and the rooms are beautiful, spacious and kept immaculately clean by a very efficient maid service. So much so that the maid wouldn't dare to clutter my wife's bathroom with any towels whatsoever two days in succession.

The grounds are manicured to perfection and the free-form pools are to die for. You'll love the convenience and poolside availability of inner tubes, etc. for rent at just $10 per day.

If you like disco music and Ricky Martin, the on-site Niki Beach restaruant offers an outside DJ and a stadium-size speaker system which plays until 11 p.m. Its quite a convenience to have sound throughout the evening reverberate off the hotel buildings so that the music can be heard perfectly while lying in bed. A call to the front desk about this free entertainment will gain you a one-hour late check-out credit!

You'll be happy to know that there's no lack of sales pitches for Club Regina time-share investments. It will be offered to you continuously throughout your stay. Even the bait & switch discount offers add to the excitement and enjoyment of your stay.

“Great Resort... Club Regina is top notch”

Club Regina Puerto Vallarta

Just got back from Club Regina and let me say what a beautiful place. The beach and lounge area were top notch. Ate at every restaurant they had and food was fabulous. Great pool menu. Not to mention the fitness center at the Westin, had everything you needed for a great workout. Even booked two excursions through the resort and they proved entirely worth the money. The rooms were more than adequate for a hotel atmosphere, deck with a nice view, and very clean. Resort staff was ever so accomodating. Would go back to stay longer. Also, I didn't have children with, me but the Kids Club looked fantastic for activities and fun
