Once again the expierence at Casa Frida was very satisyfing. We just returned from our third stay and look forward to returning. The setting is very peacefull, the grounds are well kept and the staff make us feel like family...The beach is swimmer friendly, the small restaurants serve very good food, and the towns folk are friendly. In all a very restfull and pleasent expierence at Casa Frida.

Casa Frida B&B

Just returned from a short stay at Casa Frida and can confirm all the earlier comments. Great place run by great people! Just a couple quick up-dates:The one-way taxi fare from the airport has just risen to $42 US. I rented a car from Dollar for $9 per day. Of course with all the insurances the total was closer to $40 per day, but , being Mexico, I would not drive without insurance. Your choice. Advantage Rental Cars was less expensive, but I've had bad experiences with them in the past, both domestic and international. Once again, your choice. Downtown Zihua is a short, relatively easy (for Mexico) drive away, so a car came in really handy and was worth the $. Ixtapa was a slightly longer drive and a little bit crazier with driving/parking. Also, Francois and Annabella have purchased directly on the beach property just down the road for a new casa. However they can't start to build until they sell the current property, which may take a while. In the meanwhile enjoy and relax at the current location. A great place for a quiet escape!

“Escape to Barra de Potosi”

We picked Casa Frida from Zihua Rob's website and were delighted. Francois and Annabella (and Frida the dog) were fun and welcoming, and Casa Frida itself is adorable. The rooms were basic but charming with fans, good showers, beds with mosquito netting and hammocks. The common area is very picturesque with hammocks and reading materials. There's a small but pleasant pool with lounge chairs. As the name suggests, Frida Kahlo is featured prominently! The beach and beachside restaurants are literally steps away, though the guesthouse is not itself on the beach.

We were lucky enough to be in town for Day of the Dead and were invited to share in the meal and festivities. Annabella is an absolutely fabulous cook and made us borscht (!) as Frida used to make the soup for Trotsky. I recommend having her cook you a meal during your stay. Breakfast was fresh fruit, bread, juice and coffee each morning.

The only reason I don't rate Casa Frida excellent is because of the limitations of Barra de Potosi. Barra is breathtakingly beautiful and you literally have miles of beach to yourself. We were the only non-natives we saw aside from our fellow guests (although we came just at the very start of the high season, so perhaps that changes). The problem is that the restaurants close up around 5:30 pm, so if you're used to eating or drinking later than that you're pretty much out of luck. Relaxing at the Casa is peaceful, but it was so quiet we felt guilty for making noise but weren't wired to go to bed so early. Zihuatanejo is an option; however, the buses run only during the day and the cab rides are quite expensive.

So if you are looking for complete peace and quiet and a nice taste of the local culture, Casa Frida is definitely for you. Go stay with Francois and Annabella for a few days to round out your trip to the region! Just don't go expecting any nightlife or much civilization - you're definitely off the beaten track.

We just got home from staying at Casa Frida. FABULOUS!! Anabella is a great hostess. They are always there when you need them, but also leaves you alone when you want to just relax. Jorge is a wonderful person, always attentive to your needs. Anabella made us a delicious meal which we shared with another guest. Highly recommend the place.

“Magical Casa Frida”

Casa Frida B&B

5 of 5 stars
North Vancouver BC

Casa Frida is a magical B&B in the tiny village of Barra de Potosi near Zihuatanejo. It is run by the beautiful Anabella and her gentle husband Francois, and serviced impeccably by their staff Jorge and Maria. The tastefully decorated open air courtyard surrounded by pool, living room and dining room and filled with flowers and Mexican art dedicated to its namesake, is a pleasure to wake up to.
The gourmet dinners prepared by Anabella, upon request, are not to be missed and Francois's interesting conversation and knowledge of Mexican culture is an added bonus. Jorge's delicious breakfasts of fresh fruit plates, warm croissants, excellent coffee were a perfect follow up to our sunrise strolls on the beautiful and seemingly endless sandy beach where pelicans and other birds dive in the warm ocean for fish. We plan to return to this colourful paradise as often as possible.
