The location couldn't have been better! The villa's situated in the hills overlooking the bay and Zihuatanego. We enjoyed awesome views from our balcony and typically started the day with a dip in the swimming pool. On the top floor, there is a hot tub offering an aerial view of the area. The town is a short 10-15 minute walk. This is a charming and picturesque town unlike the more sophisticated Ixtapa five miles north of Z.

“The best view in Zihua”

We had a memorable stay last January in this smal hotel, which offers the most beautiful view of Zihua bay. No matter where you are in the hotel (room, pool, sun deck, restaurant) , you always have a spectacular view of Zihua bay.Edouardo and his staff are very helpfull and customer oriented.
Everything is clean and well maintained. There is a good familiy atmosphere and guests feel comfortable to fraternize.
The hotel is near to the town (15 minutes walk or 5 minutes taxi ride) and madeira beach (25 minutes walk or 10 minutes by taxi).
We will surely go again to that lovely place!

“Great views, accessible to the town center”

We enjoyed our stay. We booked at the last minute and then extended our stay so we had to change rooms twice but that wasn't a problem for us. It is at the top of a hill - hence the fantastic views- 172 steps down to the level of the town, plus however much more depending on which room you are in. Easy to walk to town, best to return by taxi 30 to 35 pesos. Nice pool. Other guests were friendly. Beware the advertised tours in the rooms, they are not affiliated with the hotel and the details are in Spanish, which we did not understand. Rooms vary. Room 1 has limited privacy and the tub doesn't drain. No problems with the other rooms we were in #6 - a standard room (Queen bed & fridge but no kitchen or living room) and #4 - a spectacular suite with King sized bed, kitchen and fridge. Beds are typical mattresses on concrete slabs. Ask for extra pillows to help you sleep. AC in the bedrooms only. Owner and staff (limited English) are very helpful. The price was reasonable at $USD 75 per night, we would stay here again. We would recommend the Restaurant Elvira along the waterfront for excellent fish.

A very friendly, small and personal hotel. Far enough away from Zihua to be quiet (especially for Mexico), but only a $3 cab ride from downtown. Lots of charm and a great view. The staff took lots of pride and care in their work and left fun surprises in the room each day. Be ready to walk, but it is well worth it. While there, be sure to visit the Zihua Dive shop (on your left as walking into town before crossing the bridge). They can set you up with snorkeling, scuba, snooba and maybe even a private sailing excursion. I would recommend both of these to anyone, and would (will) stay here again in a heart beat.

“Spectacular view and charming owners”

We just reurned from a four day stay (April 25-29) at Villas el Morro in Zihuatanejo. My husband, my sister, and my mother all found Villas el Morrow, Eduardo (the owner) Esperanza and all ot the family and staff to be delightful. There is no more spectacular view in Zihua than that from the terrace of Villas el Morro. They only serve breakfast, but the palapa covered terrace area has a view which is breathtaking, day or night. As we had purchased papayas, mangoes, bananas, the most luscious coconut yogurt and other goodies at the markets and fruit stalls, we never actually ate breakfast there, but other guests said it was excelltent.

For those who want all meals within walking distance, the Villa Vero Puerto Mio (about a block level walk from Villas) has two restaurants--one serves all day, and La Cala serves great dinners in a beautul bayside setting.

Our suite had air conditioning only in the bedroom, however, it never was overly hot in the rest of the suite. As we had floor to ceiling windows in each room, we practiced climate control by closing the drapes when we left. As I had read previous reviews before we booked, I was aware of the location. My husband and I walked down the stone steps (170) about half a block from the hotel, and it was not a problem. Coming back up was a bit of a killer in the afternoon sun, but a taxi would come within 5 minutes of being called, and it was simple to catch a taxi back up from town. Depending on how far the ride was, it cost $3 for El Centro, up to $8 for Ixtapa. The taxi drivers without exception were friendly and helpful. I speak Spanish, but am not fluent and there would have been no problem if one knew how to pronounce the destination, even if not a Spanish speaker. Eduardo or one of his staff usually called the taxi, as there are no telephones in the rooms, but the phone is always available on the Palapa terrace, and I used the phone (no charge) to get a taxi, or make dinner reservations with no problems.

Our suite was very clean, and we had no problems with anything. However, I guessed correctly that shampoo, conditioner, hair dryer and extra soap might not be provided. We carried small bottles of our favorites--always wise in any case. Although we did not tour any of the other rooms or suites, it appeared that all had as spectacular view as ours. (It was called the "Spectacular Suite") As I have said, the view was so spectacular that it was hard not to just stay awake at night and watch the changing lilghts, and of course every morning, the sun rise was gorgeous as well, and watching the fishing boats depart was just the beginning of action on the bay that we could have watched all day. We chose some view restaurants for dinner (Casa Que Canta, Amuleto and La Cala) and our view at the villas equaled their views!! (also quite impressive looking back across the bay toward our site.)

While we were there Carnaval was going on and there was music from the basketball court on Playa Principal, which wafted up to us. We noticed the music, but it certainly did not keep us awake. It did kind of add to the festive atmosphere. Before I stop rambling, just want to mention the great pool--such a beautiful setting and view and very clean. Also, our shower had plenty of hot water, and we never used the jacuzzi but it had a view as well!

If you are looking for a slick hotel with mass produced convenience, then Villas el Morro may not be for you. However, if you want a hand crafted, unique and beautiful hotel with character and charm, you'll be happy you came to Villas el Morro. We did not rent a car, so no matter how many taxis we used, it was still less than what we would have spent on a car. And parking was never a problem!

We would without doubt return to Villas El Morro. However if we had small children who wanted to be able to walk outside to the beach without traveling, a beach front hotel might suit your needs more. I have posted a few photos. Villas el Morro website has many more.
