I decided to take my mother, who is 75 and my 4 year old daughter down to Zihua for a week. It was the 3rd week of January so most
holiday travelers were back at work and school. My mother has expressed many times her desire to go to Zihuatenajo. When I took a look at the pictures of Harriet and Ron's condo, I booked it immediately. It is true that the comprehensive guide that Harriet has prepared really prepared us (we read it ahead of time on line) for
our arrival. We felt like we knew exactly what to do, what to say and where to go the minute we touched down at the airport. Even the beautiful pictures of the condo didn't prepare us from having a total - "Oh, my God! This is so gorgeous!" moment when we stepped into the condo and looked out over the bay (they're on the 5th floor). Once we turned our sights inward we we delighted to explore the other rooms with the wonderful colours used on the walls, the paintings and artwork from local artists and the open-to-outside feel of the master bedroom with its balcony. We settled in so comfortably and enjoyed the first sunset over the bay from the open-air living room with a freshly made margarita in hand! Our days were filled with walking to the beach in the morning, enjoying the many different beach cafes like Elvira's, Paty's, and La Perla to name just a few. We'd walk or pay a few pesos for a taxi ride back to the condo for a siesta. We might take a dip in one of the gorgeous infinity pools at the condo before getting ready for dinner. We found it so easy to get a taxi - either from the gatekeeper or walking down the driveway to the street and hailing one if we wanted go into town for dinner. We enjoyed exploring the shops in downtown Zihua on some mornings or taking the water taxi from the main pier downtown over to the beach of Las Gatas which is only accessible by this taxi service or you can rent a kayak on La Playa beach (too tricky for me to try with my 75 year old mother and 4 y.o. daughter!). The water taxi was easy and efficient. You'll even find some very helpful young boys who will assist you in and out of the taxi boat. I always had a few pesos at the ready to give them. (You can certainly decline their offer, if you like - they're quite polite.) I know I haven't even covered half of what I could say about Zihua and Sueno del Mar in particular. Harriet and Ron truly work very hard to make everything perfect for your stay. Norma in the office is always there for any assistance or questions. We found the other owners and visitors to be more than willing to share their stories or advice about good places to eat or cool things to do and see. It is also a perfect place to just sit by the pool with a book or go down to the beach and float in the warm water - with out any other plans than that for the day!
