We just returned from a delightful stay at La Casa Azul in central Cuernavaca. If anyone is interested, their website is beautiful, professional and informative.
We have a lot of experience traveling in Europe and Asia, and this hotel really stands out. The classic building is beautifully renovated and maintained. The gardens, pool and restaurant are a lovely oasis from the busy city outside the gate. Each room is decorated in a style representing the artwork and crafts of a specific Mexican state, so each room is unique, while still being modern, luxurious and spotlessly clean. The rooms are spacious and comfortably housed us for 8 days and nights. On several days, when the outdoor living areas were just too inviting, I enjoyed lounging on a sofa and reading comfortably in the cool, quiet shade of one of the terraces.
Continental breakfast is a generous helping of toast, jam and butter, coffee and a lovely selection of sliced fruits. Even a late riser didn't have to worry about missing breakfast, and I sometimes lingered until noon, with the staff happy to refill my coffee cup.
Most importantly, the staff was exceptional. We were pampered by Hafid, Elizabeth and Juan Carlos, who helped us with whatever we needed. Their English is excellent for those of us who are not fluent and they were willing to offer gentle grammer tips to one of us who is studying Spanish. The housekeeping staff were friendly and welcoming as well as timely. Norma took great care of our room and gave our friends a tour of some of the other exquisite rooms. Jorge in the restaurant was very helpful explaining items on the menu. All the staff members were extremely polite and generous with their time and support.
We loved the central location of La Casa Azul because we were within an easy walk to the historic center of Cuernavaca, as well as an easy walk to bus stations for trips outside the city. As two women traveling together, we liked the freedom of staying in the center until quite late, and safely walking a short distance to our hotel, without worrying about taxis or buses. Some friends stayed outside the city, and felt stranded during the evenings because they didn't feel completely comfortable with the transportation options.
Cuernavaca is a wonderful city and our stay at La Casa Azul guarantees that we will return again. Thank you!
