I had problems getting a nice room at the Fondo San Angel ($85 a night) my favorite place to stay and swim and across the street from Sanborns at the Plaza Cuernavaca, or anywhere else so I stayed here for a night. While I the outside is fine and the inner courtyard is charming, the rooms are scarry. There were holes in the ceilings, old tile that needed replacing, and a carpet begged you to wear your shoes. There was no lamp on the bed table. And no breakfast. But to be fair to all and for $30, I slept very well, never saw any bugs whatsoever, and the hotel had over 90 cable stations--actually more that the Fondo San Angel. It's also 2 blocks from the centro. The staff was very nice and kept my bags a couple of hours passed the check-out time. It's on Hidalgo Street. Check out the Gaucho Argentinian cafe just right up the street in the cobble-stonned area. While this is okay for a night, I really want a place where I can just hang out and hopefully with a restaurant.
