Price was right, but you get what you pay for. The room was dirty and hot. The bathroom had only a thin curtain blocking the shower spray. The bathroom flooded whenever anyone showered. The towels were threadbare. The location is good, but I suspect that there are other budget hotels that are cleaner and nicer.

Oaxica is a fantastic place for sight seeing, arts and crafts, and hiking. The people and culture are very unique. Oaxacan cuisine is unbelievabe. For the best food venture away from the Zocalo. If you are traveling on a budget I recommend the Hotel Francia which is comfortable, friendly, clean, and beautiful. The Camino Real is also great (and much more expensive). I can't wait to go back!

Hotel Francia is in a great location--just a block and a half from the zocolo. The price is also very good.

However, do not let them put you in any room on the streets. They are way too noisey. If it is hot, you do not want to be in any room around the lobby. We moved 3 times before we found a room in the back right corner as you face the hotel. The room was on an open air patio, and had a fan. The cross breezes made the room comfortable.

I spent 5 nights here over Christmas. I had made reservations in advance. The whole town was full or I would have switched hotels. The hotel is very noisy as most of the rooms face a tiled courtyard where they serve breakfast and play music beginning at 7 AM. The first room that I got had no windows and was extremely noisy. Also, the maids would bang on your door until you answered at 8:30 AM in the morning every single morning. I had to sleep with earplugs but this didn't keep the maids out on their 8:30 AM rounds. This is not good if you are out dancing salsa until the wee hours. They would also walk in unannounced in the middle of the afternoon when I was napping trying to make up for lost sleep. Did I say it was noisy? That being said the people at the desk were helpfull with travel information and were courteous when I asked to change to a different room (one with windows).
