First off, this is not an international luxury hotel--Las Mariposas is a small, locally operated hotel in a great location in Oaxaca. My dad and I were traveling together in the end of May 2008 and he ended up staying here for ten days as I was doing a homestay not far away. Although my homestay was enjoyable, I was excited to get my room at Las Mariposas for four days at the end of my homestay.
My two rooms (we left for a night in the middle of my stay) were both on the balcony and the location was perfect. The cost was about 40 US per night since we were there in the low season. The rooms were very clean and the service is amazing (not pampering amazing but exceedingly friendly). Every employee is so kind and helpful. Lucia and Teresa who I believe own the hotel went above and beyond to give us travel suggestions and help with booking other parts of our trip.
The breakfast is fine, nothing fancy though I loved the cinnamon in my coffee! The rooms are clean and orderly though, again, not fancy. I loved all the plants around the courtyards. There were a fair amount of American, Canadian, and French tourists staying there while we were there so be sure to get out and about to practice your spanish language!
I used the computer often and had no trouble that the earlier reviewer did--it is available from 7am-10pm which I thought was reasonable since they ask for quiet hours after 10pm, something I think the courtyard facing room occupants would appreciate.
Anyway, I decided after my first night there that I would recommend Las Mariposas to any friend going to Oaxaca.
