I am giving this hotel a five "dot" review not because it is a luxury hotel but because it is a good value for the price. We were there over Easter Week which is San Miguel's highest season. All the hotels jack up their rates; this hotel rather inexplicably gave me a 20% discount for our 4-night stay. We paid about 60% of what we would have paid elsewhere and we liked the hotel. The room decoration is nice, the staff is helpful and they have a minivan service that takes you back and forth between hotel and town center, which is needed as you are up above the town and the roads are way too steep and narrow to walk. The minivans ran on demand rather than on schedule, which means that we never had to wait. Minor complaints: the food was ok but not great; the mattress was particularly hard and we had a noisy family on top of us and heard all of the noise. There is no gym, although one is advertised on the website. The minivan service ends at 10 pm which is a tad early, but you can easily get a cab back. We will go back.

“Hotel Vistareal, a shining Gem.”

Our driver ,climbing the cobblestone streets, turned onto what seemed and unappealing street, then, to our surpise, turned right into a gem of a hotel, the Vistareal. It sits on top of the hill, with an exciting view of the valley below, with manacured lawns and lush foliage embracing the rooms. They graciously gave us the large suite, well appointed, with a staff that was always helpful. Twenty two rooms in a spectaculer setting. And reasonable---about $600 US for seven nites. Deserves a repeat visit.

Our family of five spent a full week in San Miguel de Allende. With three younger children, our web research and email efforts led us to the Vista Real Hotel, a quaint small hotel(20+- rooms) overlooking the historic district. Their price was very reasonable and service was very accomodating. We had every breakfast and several dinners at their La Vista restaurant run by Culinary Institute of America trained chef Fernando Padilla. The resturant also had terrific views! Our children made good use of the pool after a long day of touring the town and outlying areas. We really felt at home with Laura helping us with our reservations and Jaime taking care of our transportation to Leon. We had a great time and definitely plan on returning hopefully to catch more of the festive events during the year. Vista Real Hotel is the place to stay with younger children.
