“Great Place to Stay”

Casa Los Arquitos B&B

Jul 12, 2008

We stayed at Los Arquitos on a recent trip to Oaxaca. It was a wonderful experience. Juan and Patricia are two of the nicest people I've ever met. They were nothing but accomadating and genuinly kind of people. The place is clean, super safe and decorated very tastefully. The location of the B&B is perfect. It's close enough to the Zocalo/downtown to walk easily and far enough to be nice and peaceful. The other item worth noting is that the neighborhood that this in is really well set up for traveling. We were extremelly pleased with our stay.

“Los Arquitos is Amazing”

Casa Los Arquitos B&B

My husband and I had a wonderful stay at Casa Los Arquitos. It was everything we thought it would be and more. The rooms were clean and beautiful and we felt we had everything we needed.

Juan and Patricia made us feel at home from the start and gave us great advice about where to eat and what to see in Oaxaca. They also helped us a great deal with our Spanish and were very patient with us.

Los Arquitos is in a great part of Oaxaca. It is on a tranquil cobblestone street close to Santo Domingo Church and the Zocalo. There is also a fabulous organic market down the street on Fridays and Saturdays. I just can't say enough good things about it.

We look forward to staying at Los Arquitos again soon.

“Casa Los Arquitos, little jewel inn of Oaxaca”

Casa Los Arquitos B&B

5 of 5 stars

We were absolutely delighted by our stay at Casa Los Arquitos Bed & Breakfast in Oaxaca City in November 2007. We wanted to experience the local flavor in a more intimate setting than the standard impersonal big hotel. At Los Arquitos, we got a taste of Oaxacan culture in a peaceful, well-maintained and beautiful environment, as well as very good and personalized services.

This small, privately owned inn is situated in the picturesque, historical Aqueduct district area on a quiet pedestrian street. It is very suitable for rest, as the few rooms are located in the back of the habitation, away from the street noise, and there is a very quiet ambiance with no other electronic devices available than a computer in the main hall. The rooms, kept very clean by the owners, are well provided for cooking and decorated tastefully with folk art. Flowers, plants and more folk art adorn the terraces and halls, making for a pleasing decor. The inn’s location allows for peace and quiet away from downtown’s feverish activity and noise, but it is also sufficiently close to walk to the central place Zócalo, which is a merely 20-minute walk. We felt very safe at Los Arquitos, the front gate being kept closed at all times, the rooms tended only by the owners and the doors being very secure. The owners, Patricia and Juan, a cultured and educated couple, are very trustworthy people. They are extremely polite, amicable and obliging, and deliver highly professional services. They can provide suggestions about cultural events, shopping, restaurants, and touring in Oaxaca and the surroundings, and make safe transportation arrangements if needed. Patricia, a physician, can assist in case of health issues and Juan is always willing to offer information about local businesses and customs. The breakfasts provided are delicious, plentiful, well presented and made with high quality, fresh food.

Before we left for México we read discouraging reviews about Oaxaca, due to political troubles in the recent past. However, we saw absolutely no signs of turmoil, violence or tension anywhere we went in Oaxaca. There was no more police presence than anywhere else in México. On the streets and everywhere else, people were friendly and polite with us. We felt safe to walk downtown by ourselves and back and forth to Los Arquitos, even after dark in the evening. We never felt threatened, even in areas not frequented by foreigners, such as some local markets. In our opinion, Oaxaca is no less safe than any other Mexican, Canadian or American city.

Juan and Patricia’s beautiful inn and excellent services made our vacations in vibrant Oaxaca among the best we ever had. We highly recommend Los Arquitos.

“Casa los Arquitos is AMAZING!”

Casa Los Arquitos B&B

May 25, 2008

My friend and I have been traveling in Mexico for a couple of weeks now, and our 5-day stay in Casa los Arquitos was by far the most memorable and magical we´ve had. This is a perfectly located, lovely B & B in the enchanting city of Oaxaca, and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to be extremely comfortable, well cared for, and guided to the best sights and experiences Oaxaca has to offer.

The owners of Casa los Arquitos, Patricia and Juan, are two of the most genuine, friendly people I´ve ever met. There is no way to exaggerate what good hosts they are. The day we arrived, Juan met us at the door and carried our bags to our room, welcoming us and telling us about all the exquisite Oaxacan artesanal pieces we passed on the short walk from the front door to our beautifully decorated, immaculately clean, quaint room and private bath. His intimate knowledge of the art, culture and history of Oaxaca were immediately evident. And in fact, he is extremely knowledgeable about the various indigenous groups living in the region and about the rich indigenous culture that plays a major role in the way people interact in the city—namely, that as a rule the Oaxacan people are extraordinarily friendly, dignified and kind, not to mention hip.

Juan also leads tours to local indigenous communities outside the city, and to local historical sites. Juan and Pati took us along on their own Sunday afternoon outing to explore a town a couple of hours outside the city, teaching us about the area and even walking us around a beautifully restored 16th century Dominican church. They then took us to lunch at a charming local spot and we spent a wonderful afternoon getting to know the area around Oaxaca, as well as these two lovely people. It was also very comforting that Pati is herself a doctor, because when one of us felt a bit ill after probably eating too much of the rich Oaxacan food at lunch, she calmly inquired about the symptoms and she and Juan chatted patiently with us until our extranjera stomachs calmed down.

I can´t say enough about how lovely it was to stay in Casa los Arquitos. Pati and Juan make so many things available to you that it really does feel like a home away from home, and all for such a reasonable price! There is always plenty of filtered water in your room, unlimited high speed internet access, and each day begins with an artfully presented plate of fruit, a basket of pan dulce, local organic yogurt and granola, home-squeezed juice, Pati´s delicious Oaxacan hot chocolate or Juan´s home brewed organic coffee, and most importantly, Juan himself greeting you and asking you with genuine concern how you slept and how you awoke. And now that we´ve traveled a bit more after our Casa los Arquitos experience, we´ve come to truly appreciate how accessible Juan and Pati make themselves to give you recommendations about where to go to eat, what to see, and basically anything you could imagine that you might want to do during your stay in Oaxaca. If they have space available when you want to be there, you should snatch it up because I can´t imagine a better place to stay, or better people to stay with than Pati and Juan of Casa los Arquitos.

“Home away from Home”

Casa Los Arquitos B&B

Mar 15, 2008

Juan & Patricia were the perfect hosts and made me feel right at home, as they waved me off early in the morning I felt like I did when leaving my parents house so many moons ago. It is a bit of a quieter part of town which was perfect. I loved the décor as it really made you feel like you were staying in an authentic Mexican casa, and with the bedroom with adjoining lounge I felt I really had the space and the opportunity to relax when needed. I would highly recommend a stay here, and a visit to the gorgeously quaint city (pueblo) of Oaxaca. Do buy lots of artesian crafts, as I didn’t and still regret it.
