Well to start off, I am going to make this a long review and try to cover every aspect of the vacation so you will get the best possible review and I will try to leave out the small problems others didn't mention. Dreams is definetly a family oriented place as much as it is for adults. While I did travel here with my mom, and there were many daily activities, I didn't think there were many things for teenagers to do. I'll try to make my review as detailed as possible and it will be easy since I just got back today.
Food: We didn't ever eat at the Seaside grill or the asian restaurant Himitsu. We did check out the menu for Himitsu and if you don't like sushi there's not much selection. The seaside grill is all the way on the other side of the proporty so it's a little difficult to find and we only did becasue we walked around. Oceana had the best fish i've ever had! It was DEFINETLY worth going to.
The world cafe was great because it was convinient and they had a very large selection on food and the different themed dinners were good although it was mostly different variations of fish and meats.
When they had dinners on the beach (2 nights a week, one was mexican and the other was caribbean) it was very nice! They would start to serve dinner (buffet style) at 7 and then at 8 they would have a show with traditional dances and preformances of the cultures.
The snack shack was nice for poolside lunches when you don't feel like drying off and getting dressed to go to the cafe for lunch
Beach: We didn't go to the beach much but it was very clean. There did seem to be not enough chairs for everyone. The water trampoline was VERY difficult to get up on. The ladder wasn't roped down to the ocean floor so it would swing around when you tried to get up and it was missing a step so you would really have to use your arms to pull yourself up and I found to be too tired once i got up to jump alot haha, the climbing rock thing in the water was fun too, but there were A LOT of gross barnicles covered on the bottom.
Lagoon: The lagoon was filled with fish. There would be at least one worker in there working extremely hard to keep it as clean and safe as possible (going up to his neck in the water to get out the nasty fish) I wouldn't reccomend swimming in it even though they tried hard to keep it clean, just go to the beach instead
Pool: Many people complain of the pool being too small but I think it was a decent size. They had a shallower area for the kids so they weren't splashing around as much. The swim up bar was nice, although some people carelessly and rudely would just leave their cups or straws to float around in the pool when they were finished rather than put them back up on the bar to be thrown away. At around 4pm all the rafts and float toys are collected which seems a little early.
Dolphins: DEFINETLY swim with them!!!! It was soo excellent. The foot push (when they push you by your feet and send you flying) was such a fun time. I definetly reccomend doing this. Just make sure you check the weather for when you plan on doing it, because they still do it if it rains. The first groups are sent out at 9 and it seems less busy then. I would reccomend buying the DVD and then choosing to buy 8 pictures on a CD instead of buying a bunch of 8X10 prints ($25 each, a ripoff) and then printing them yourself at home, all you loose is a paper folder with a dolphin on it to store the picture. ALSO, many people complain that they wake you up early if your room is near them. My room was on the first floor directly in front of them and the only thing that woke me up was the whistles of the trainers and the clapping and laughing of the people swimming but after the 1st or 2nd day i could sleep past it.
Entertainment team: The entertainment team is the best!! They are out there working 15 hour days with a smile on their face the whole time. Mini me (adrian) was my favorite teamer, he always seemed to be making sure I was having a fun time and joining in all the activities. Everyday they plan beach volleyball at 11am and i think 3pm. Water volleyball, spanish lessons, salsa classes, kayak tours, water aerobics, and soccer are usually everyday activities. The bungee trampoline is everyday from 11am-12 and 3pm-4pm and you have to get there right when they open it so you can sign up because they get booked up quickly. One day during my stay they had an "Olympics" where there are two teams of players and you compete in beach volleyball, water balloon fight, tug of war, and water polo (although we had to switch to water volleyball because some drinkers who weren't at the bar or where we were'nt playing were getting mad that we were splahing them while they were in the middle of the game so we had to switch to water volleyball instead) ANYWAY, the entertainment team really goes out of their way to make sure everyone who wants to participate is having a fun time. By the 2nd or 3rd day Freddy and Mini Me knew me by name and would start a conversation when I'd walk by. They also plan the nightly shows which are always great. There was kareoke, a hypnotist (Danny Doyle), a comedy show (my favorite), Casino night, and the Mexican night and Caribbean night.
Rainy Days: I don't remember reading about rainy days on other reviews so here you go: the whole time i stayed at Dreams, there was only one rainy day which was an all day storm. After the rain came on they quickly switched to rainy day plans and did bingo in the lobby, they did casino games which are played with fake dreams dollars (everyone gets 4 $100 dollar bills) and then at the end, they have an auction to win prizes (NFL DVDs, tshirts, calendars and tequila). Also, they had ping pong and played the euro cup semi-finals. I think that the entertainment team did a really great job at providing rainy day games so you dont spend the whole day sitting in the lobby having a drink or watching tv in your room.
Weddings: It seemed there was a wedding everyday at Dreams and I know why! They wedding gazebo was BEAUTIFUL, right on the tip of the rocks overlooking the coast and the ocean. Although, there was a very large group for a wedding there the whole week I was there that was VERY obnoxious, I dont think they quite understood that it was other people's vacations too and the resort wasnt theirs to run. They would hog up the swim up bar and get annoyed with daily activities that would "annoy" them. I tried to not let them get to me. The only problem with weddings is that if the reception and ceremony is outside, there is no way to walk around them.
Wildlife: The whole time I was at Dreams I saw hardly no bugs, and NO flying bugs. There were a lot of cockroaches around but they wouldnt get in your way much, There was a large amount of strange black birds that would just hover above the tower building with was weird. There were loud birds that would sit in the planter area of the pyramid building. If you want to see the large iguanas, then you have to get out behind the pyramid building in the morning (around 9:30 and they are all over the place, but not really out at any other time of day) Birds would not be afraid to swoop down and grab food from around you.
Bars: From what I hear, the drinks are weak, but they will make them stronger if you ask. They do just keep them coming, you usually don't have to ask for a refill. The Barracuda bar was my favorite, they had one row of seats that were swings which was fun. At night time, some kids would play on swings which was irritating because they're parents wouldnt make them stop and tell them it's a bar and not a playground
Rooms: We stayed in a deluxe dolphin view room with 2 double beds. The room service did a great job keeping it tidy and would straiten up personal belongings if they were on the bed and they needed to clean. I would often leave a book open to the page I left off on and they'd place my bookmark in it and put it on the bedside table. The turndown service at night is really nice, although the spa channel music they would put on the tv for you got annoying haha but there's nothing you can do about that and it's not like it was a big trouble to just turn it off. I enjoyed having some movie channels and other TV channels that were in English so i could understand what i was watching before i went to bed. The room would get very humid if you left the balcony door open and the floor would get condensation and would get slippery. The shower heat was very tempermental. Some days I'd have a perfectly hot shower and 5 mintues later my mom would have an ice cold one. Also, if you left the balcony door open and if you would go out the front door, when you shut the front door, it would cause the balcony door to slam shut which was suprising.
Overall I have nothing but positive things to send home about and I would definetly reccomend anyone to stay there!!
