“Unbelievable”

Dreams Cancun Resort & Spa

Just to start THIS PLACE IN UNBELIEVABLE!! I went with my girfriend and we both said we had an awesome time and i cannot put into words how much we both enjoyed it but i will try.

To start the rooms are great, air conditioned, king size beds and we had an ocean and dolphin view room and this was fantastic, we sat when we woke in the morning and before we went to bed watching the dolphins and it was such a great site watching them play together. The rooms where cleaned daily and the free mini bar restocked daily with what drinks you wanted!!

The food was fantastic, i am a very fussy eater and on previous all inclusive had not eaten much, but the food here is superb, the world cafe do great meals 3 times a day. The breakfasts where great, bacon, eggs or fruit and cereal, whatever you wanted however i would recommend the omelettes as they are great. Lunch was also good, again almost anything you wanted from soup to pizza,or salad to fillet chicken and steak. At dinner they did different style evenings, mexico, caribean, french etc and on every night there is something everyone will like so dont be put off by the name. I only ate at one of the 3 other restraunts which was the seaside bar and gril hich i lovelly and romantic but the food is very rich so be prepared!! We also had room service a few times when we where there and that was always good. A big shout out must go to Eduardo the waiter he is great and always smiles and will do anything for you but all the waiters are good just cant rememebr all there names!!

The day time entertainment around the pool was great, always an option on what to do from sport andfruit decoration and the staff where fantastic. Victor, Zairy, Orlando, Adrian (mini me), Freddie, Manuel, Giovani you were all fantastic and made our holiday and provided some great memories for our holiday. The night time entertainment was also good, different dance shows, caberet acts and hypnotists so always a good variety. For those who like to party thehotel take you to a different club every night, make sure you go with them as the entertainment staff go with you and look after you in a big way!! I went to Coco Bongo, Senor Frogs, Bulldogs and Daddy O's and they were all good nights.

The shopping is good but even in the shops barter as they will always drop on price we got everything we bought at less then half the asking price!!

A bit of advice is a few dollars go a long way in this place, we tipped a few dollars a meal and every other drink and we got looked after superbly and met some great friends and will definately be going back again in the near future. It is suitable for anyone, honey mooners, couples and friends as there is something for everyone!!

“Hated it, don't go there. Rooms old and smelly, Resturants and service awful.”

We just got back from that hell hole today(6/30/08). The buildings were old and smelly. The rooms are awful, bathrooms are clogged and you need a maintance to come and check it at least once a day. My freind's bathroom had fungus and mold growing on the walls. There is no decent restaurant to eat and terrible waiting staff. There was 26 of us and there was only one waiter to serve us, so our dinner was on the table after 2 hours of waiting. We were at their so called "Tower building' which is supposed to be their luxurious building, there was only one elevator working for the guests and the staff. So on avarage waiting to get on the elevator was about 15 mintues. There was nothing to do other than going to a very tiny beach with 100 other people. The ocean water is not clean and lots of sharp rocks on the ocean floor. Please demolish this ancient resort!!!!!!!!!!!!! and build a new one. Don't wast your money on this trash.

“BEST vacation ive ever had”

Dreams Cancun Resort & Spa

5 of 5 stars

8/8 found this review helpful

Well to start off, I am going to make this a long review and try to cover every aspect of the vacation so you will get the best possible review and I will try to leave out the small problems others didn't mention. Dreams is definetly a family oriented place as much as it is for adults. While I did travel here with my mom, and there were many daily activities, I didn't think there were many things for teenagers to do. I'll try to make my review as detailed as possible and it will be easy since I just got back today.

Food: We didn't ever eat at the Seaside grill or the asian restaurant Himitsu. We did check out the menu for Himitsu and if you don't like sushi there's not much selection. The seaside grill is all the way on the other side of the proporty so it's a little difficult to find and we only did becasue we walked around. Oceana had the best fish i've ever had! It was DEFINETLY worth going to.
The world cafe was great because it was convinient and they had a very large selection on food and the different themed dinners were good although it was mostly different variations of fish and meats.
When they had dinners on the beach (2 nights a week, one was mexican and the other was caribbean) it was very nice! They would start to serve dinner (buffet style) at 7 and then at 8 they would have a show with traditional dances and preformances of the cultures.
The snack shack was nice for poolside lunches when you don't feel like drying off and getting dressed to go to the cafe for lunch

Beach: We didn't go to the beach much but it was very clean. There did seem to be not enough chairs for everyone. The water trampoline was VERY difficult to get up on. The ladder wasn't roped down to the ocean floor so it would swing around when you tried to get up and it was missing a step so you would really have to use your arms to pull yourself up and I found to be too tired once i got up to jump alot haha, the climbing rock thing in the water was fun too, but there were A LOT of gross barnicles covered on the bottom.

Lagoon: The lagoon was filled with fish. There would be at least one worker in there working extremely hard to keep it as clean and safe as possible (going up to his neck in the water to get out the nasty fish) I wouldn't reccomend swimming in it even though they tried hard to keep it clean, just go to the beach instead

Pool: Many people complain of the pool being too small but I think it was a decent size. They had a shallower area for the kids so they weren't splashing around as much. The swim up bar was nice, although some people carelessly and rudely would just leave their cups or straws to float around in the pool when they were finished rather than put them back up on the bar to be thrown away. At around 4pm all the rafts and float toys are collected which seems a little early.

Dolphins: DEFINETLY swim with them!!!! It was soo excellent. The foot push (when they push you by your feet and send you flying) was such a fun time. I definetly reccomend doing this. Just make sure you check the weather for when you plan on doing it, because they still do it if it rains. The first groups are sent out at 9 and it seems less busy then. I would reccomend buying the DVD and then choosing to buy 8 pictures on a CD instead of buying a bunch of 8X10 prints ($25 each, a ripoff) and then printing them yourself at home, all you loose is a paper folder with a dolphin on it to store the picture. ALSO, many people complain that they wake you up early if your room is near them. My room was on the first floor directly in front of them and the only thing that woke me up was the whistles of the trainers and the clapping and laughing of the people swimming but after the 1st or 2nd day i could sleep past it.

Entertainment team: The entertainment team is the best!! They are out there working 15 hour days with a smile on their face the whole time. Mini me (adrian) was my favorite teamer, he always seemed to be making sure I was having a fun time and joining in all the activities. Everyday they plan beach volleyball at 11am and i think 3pm. Water volleyball, spanish lessons, salsa classes, kayak tours, water aerobics, and soccer are usually everyday activities. The bungee trampoline is everyday from 11am-12 and 3pm-4pm and you have to get there right when they open it so you can sign up because they get booked up quickly. One day during my stay they had an "Olympics" where there are two teams of players and you compete in beach volleyball, water balloon fight, tug of war, and water polo (although we had to switch to water volleyball because some drinkers who weren't at the bar or where we were'nt playing were getting mad that we were splahing them while they were in the middle of the game so we had to switch to water volleyball instead) ANYWAY, the entertainment team really goes out of their way to make sure everyone who wants to participate is having a fun time. By the 2nd or 3rd day Freddy and Mini Me knew me by name and would start a conversation when I'd walk by. They also plan the nightly shows which are always great. There was kareoke, a hypnotist (Danny Doyle), a comedy show (my favorite), Casino night, and the Mexican night and Caribbean night.

Rainy Days: I don't remember reading about rainy days on other reviews so here you go: the whole time i stayed at Dreams, there was only one rainy day which was an all day storm. After the rain came on they quickly switched to rainy day plans and did bingo in the lobby, they did casino games which are played with fake dreams dollars (everyone gets 4 $100 dollar bills) and then at the end, they have an auction to win prizes (NFL DVDs, tshirts, calendars and tequila). Also, they had ping pong and played the euro cup semi-finals. I think that the entertainment team did a really great job at providing rainy day games so you dont spend the whole day sitting in the lobby having a drink or watching tv in your room.

Weddings: It seemed there was a wedding everyday at Dreams and I know why! They wedding gazebo was BEAUTIFUL, right on the tip of the rocks overlooking the coast and the ocean. Although, there was a very large group for a wedding there the whole week I was there that was VERY obnoxious, I dont think they quite understood that it was other people's vacations too and the resort wasnt theirs to run. They would hog up the swim up bar and get annoyed with daily activities that would "annoy" them. I tried to not let them get to me. The only problem with weddings is that if the reception and ceremony is outside, there is no way to walk around them.

Wildlife: The whole time I was at Dreams I saw hardly no bugs, and NO flying bugs. There were a lot of cockroaches around but they wouldnt get in your way much, There was a large amount of strange black birds that would just hover above the tower building with was weird. There were loud birds that would sit in the planter area of the pyramid building. If you want to see the large iguanas, then you have to get out behind the pyramid building in the morning (around 9:30 and they are all over the place, but not really out at any other time of day) Birds would not be afraid to swoop down and grab food from around you.

Bars: From what I hear, the drinks are weak, but they will make them stronger if you ask. They do just keep them coming, you usually don't have to ask for a refill. The Barracuda bar was my favorite, they had one row of seats that were swings which was fun. At night time, some kids would play on swings which was irritating because they're parents wouldnt make them stop and tell them it's a bar and not a playground

Rooms: We stayed in a deluxe dolphin view room with 2 double beds. The room service did a great job keeping it tidy and would straiten up personal belongings if they were on the bed and they needed to clean. I would often leave a book open to the page I left off on and they'd place my bookmark in it and put it on the bedside table. The turndown service at night is really nice, although the spa channel music they would put on the tv for you got annoying haha but there's nothing you can do about that and it's not like it was a big trouble to just turn it off. I enjoyed having some movie channels and other TV channels that were in English so i could understand what i was watching before i went to bed. The room would get very humid if you left the balcony door open and the floor would get condensation and would get slippery. The shower heat was very tempermental. Some days I'd have a perfectly hot shower and 5 mintues later my mom would have an ice cold one. Also, if you left the balcony door open and if you would go out the front door, when you shut the front door, it would cause the balcony door to slam shut which was suprising.

Overall I have nothing but positive things to send home about and I would definetly reccomend anyone to stay there!!

“Going Back”

Dreams Cancun Resort & Spa

5 of 5 stars
Calgary, Alberta

Read many negative reviews about Dreams before our trip so our group was a bit nervous. Here's the thing: Mexico is a third world country. Apparently this comes as a shock to certain people. When you go, expect third world infrastructure- there are plumbing issues; the tapwater does smell sulfuric and the workmanship is rustic. This is not unique to Dreams. Had an opportunity stay at the Hyatt next door and the issues were similar. Even toured some neighboring properties and they were the same. Overall, Dreams had many more amenities and the best beaches of many resorts in the area. Just don't go to Dreams or any Cancun resorts expecting Waldorf Astoria amenties.

Also, Mexico is not known for its haute cuisine. That having been said, Dreams delivers on quality and service. Food at Oceana, Himitsu and Seaside Grill is equivalent to what you would receive at a typical chain restaurant. Paloma Bonita, which is not part of the all-inclusive program, serves what is easily 4-star authentic Mexican food. You do pay for it but it is well worth the price. They also have a terrific six-piece mariachi band and world-class service. World Cafe is typical for a buffet- great for breakfast but not somewhere you would want to go for lunch or dinner.

Staff service at Dreams rivals anything you would find at five-star resorts in North America. Staff enjoy serving, have no attitude, are always available and are genuinely concerned if you appear the least bit dissatisfied. Beach side food and beverage service at the Club Beach is exceptional. Wait staff are attentive and return frequently. More frequently if you tip. Domestic drinks tend to be watered down so do ask for premium (undiluted) brands of alcohol. Wait staff respond well and pour generously. More generously if you tip. Beach side service at Laguna and other beaches is inconsistent but you are so close to the bars it doesn't matter.

The hotel was overbooked upon our arrival and so our group volunteered to spend a night at the neighboring Hyatt. It was a great opportunity to explore another resort. We were also granted an upgrade from basic room to Club Tower Ocean View. If you are going to Dreams, do spend the extra money and take the Club Tower. It will make your vacation. Only 6 rooms per floor, excellent service, private breakfast in the lobby and (most important) quiet beaches.

Only one complaint about Dreams but it was more of our own design- travelling in the off season. Certain of the guests were clearly there to be both seen and heard. Others were less obnoxious but more content to soil their own nests; chain smoking marlboros and dropping their butts onto a pristine beach. America was not well represented in this respect. Some advice- Drinks at Dreams are served in plastic cups. Fill one with sand and 'Voila!' an ash tray. Our group did not appreciate catching cigarette butts in or toes. Thankfully, these guests were a minority at Dreams and they all left three days into our stay. Yet one more argument for taking the Club Towers.

Final word on the beaches. The beaches at Dreams are easily some of the best in Cancun. Swimming is fantastic. A few pointers, though- mid April to early May is when the jellyfish mate off shore in Cancun, precluding you from swimming. Early to late May the ocean sloughs, washing enormous quantities of seaweed onto the shore. If you go off season, choose late May. Our group arrived on May 25 and had only two days of knee-deep seaweed washing ashore. The resort hires staff to clean this but the onslaught is continuous. Dreams appears to get the lest amount of seaweed of any resort in the area. It does clear quickly and three days into our stay the beaches were pristine and calm.

Will definitely return to Dreams.

“Very Nice Hotel !!! Read My Review For Acurate Information”

Dreams Cancun Resort & Spa

14/14 found this review helpful

Ok I just returned home from Cancun Yesterday from our honey moon. I am 25 and she is 27 and I had to review the hotel seeing that I booked this hotel because of the reviews on this site. I am going to do this review in a simple format of 1-10 with 1 being the worst and 10 being the best.

Food : 8

I was very surprised on how good the food was here. Oceana the seafood restaurant is awesome. Seaside Grill has great steak. The buffet was ok. Room service is ok also. One night they had a Mexican buffet by the pool. They had the best carnea sada I have ever tasted. We did not go to the Chinese restaurant but I hear it was pretty good.

Drinks : 9

I don't see where people say there drinks are not strong. They must want straight alcohol. The drinks were very good and they have the perfect mix of alcohol in them.

Pool : 7

The main pool is small but there wasn't a ton of children. Also if you want on the other side of the resort there is an infinity pool and this is very private with no kids. The water in the pools were perfect temp. and there was always empty chairs

Beach: 7

I thought the beach was ok. I thought the water might be a little clearer but overall it wasn't too bad. The sand was white and soft. If you want privacy go to the beach side were the infinity pool is. I didn't see 1 kid there the whole time we were there. It was very private. At both beaches getting a chair was not a problem.

Activities: 7

They had something to do each hour. I only played volleyball and it was fun. There is a list that comes to your door every morning and is posted in the elevators.

Room: 8

We booked the cheapest room for 288 a night and were upgraded to a dolphin view room. The rooms were pretty nice as well. We had a nice view and the maid did well keeping it clean. Nice walk in shower. Especially for honeymooners. haha. Room was always nice and cool.

Service: 10

This is what made our stay at Dreams so enjoyable. PLEASE KEEP NOTE OF THIS IF YOU PLAN ON GOING TO DREAMS. GO TO OCEANA AND ASK FOR ANGEL. He is absolutely the best waiter I have ever had in my life and my mom is a waitress. This guy was awesome. We gave tips throughout our stay. A buck or two here and there. This guy was so good We gave him 17 bucks the first time and 25 the second time.

Overall 8.5

Dreams overall was a great place to stay. Dont listen to these grumpy people that try to give it a 2 out of 5. That is insane. If you have any questions feel free to email me at hutch316@hotmail.com.
