we stayed at the blue bay club at the end of april/start may, we had already researched the hotel on this, and other review websites so we knew the location was out of the "strip", that it was an older style mexican hotel and that there would be seaweed on the beach of a morning! the only concern we had was that we wanted to be on the beach side of the hotel, we had heard about the annexe across the road and didn't want to be roomed there, luckily we weren't and had a beautiful ocean view room and thats how the holiday started. having said that, we met a family from cambridge who were roomed there, they were happy to be there as it was quieter than the main block and this suited them more, its got a little pool and gets the sun for longer so, its swings and roundabouts really, we were told if you don't like it there they would move you over as soon as a room was free. if not there and then.
The food is more than adequate in the main restaurant, we always found nice things to eat, although friends we met whilst there had different views and were the unluckiest eaters i've ever met! you'll probably read their report on here soon. The staff at this hotel are second to none, our experiences with all the staff were pleasant and
enjoyable, we felt we were welcomed and tipped mainly at the end. a few names spring to mind, charly for kornhole 10.30, luis for teaching us how to sail and dishing out the kayaks (they're free), dario , martha, jaochim and the dj, alexandro and orlando at the bar and all the waiting guys,
front desk people and andy the thomas cook rep, all most willing to help and happy to help make your holiday as fun as it can be.
the hotel is older styled but its part of its charm, its very clean and well looked after.
the location is way out of the strip, but thats ok, the food is wide and varied and i'd say the majority of the guests while we were there were happy with it, the beers ok, flows freely, the entertainment crew are amazing considering their energy and drive, from early in the morning to way past our bedtimes!
we'd go back to bbc, no hesitation at all.
cancuns a blast, expensive , but a blast. GO to coco bongo, the best club i've ever been to, too stunning and unbelieveable to describe in detail, just imagine mardi gras, notting hill carnival mixed with vegas showtime and live trapeze artists all floating over your head while spiderman in full costume fights the green goblin on the bar!
shopping is good at the flea markets, you get hassled a bit but its not that nasty, everywhere else like the shopping malls are quite expensive, souvenirs were cheap at chichen itza, half the prices in cancun.
we got taxis from all over cancun to the hotel and the prices changed constantly, so we asked for a taxi in the end, they told us a price, we said no, they said a lower price, we said no and then they said how much did we want to pay? then we told them and they took us! be brave.
if you do go, have fun you lucky people
