“too many americans!!!”

my partner and i have just returned from spending two fabulous weeks at park royal. after reading some american reviews i was dubious about booking this hotel, but on the whole it has an excellent location on one of cancun's best beaches. we were a short stroll away from three shopping malls, the best one being la isla which is situated just across the road.
the staff at this hotel work extremely hard to ensure that you have a pleasant and enjoyable holiday, and in our opinion should get more credit for this, especially all the staff at the italian retaurant and lobby bar ie guillemero, ismael, javiar etc etc etc. the rooms are basic but really clean...and we couldnt smell any musk coming from the air conditioning as reported in other reviews, the meals in the buffet restaurant were good too, lunch time being my favourite as i prefer to eat out in the evenings while on holiday despite being all inclusive. we never got hassled once about time share while in the hotel, but found these people to be more troublesome outside the hotel in the shopping malls, just be careful about what some people are offering you and remember you dont get anything for free with them, there is always a catch, a good tip for the uk tourists is if necessary always produce your passport for identification never use your credit card which they desire, as they want to know you have money to spend, if they are persistent about this walk away.
the only downside to the holiday was the amount of americans at the hotel, especially the spring breakers, i booked cancun for this time of year because i thought being involved in spring break would be an enjoyable experience....how wrong was i!!!! some people were friendly but most were rude and obnoxious and became loud and demanding when their requests for anything no matter how big or small were not met instantanously. a tip to the americans...manners cost nothing and a please and a thankyou for the service you require/receive should not be that difficult for you people to do.
so overall, it was an excellent holiday and we would return again to this hotel, preferably in a presidential suite but never in march again.

We spent the week of March 6-12, 2005 at Park Royal. If you're looking for a beautiful beach, this is the place for you! We walked along the beaches in the morning and found ours to be the widest. They all have beautiful white sand but Park Royal's is probably the best. The hotel is very clean, and the staff is very friendly and willing to help you in any way. The food is average, not terrible like most of the reviews I read. If you miss breakfast or lunch, there are always snacks available. You won't go hungry. The drinks were good as well, with 3 bars to serve you. The two pools are small, but nice. The lower level pool has a swim up bar, which was over-taken by spring-breakers, but that didn't bother us because we preferred the beach. Now for the bad... they were constantly trying to get us to buy into their time-share deal. We politely told them no, but they kept needling us. Every morning there was a reminder under our door. They even phoned us! I thought a concierge was supposed to be of service to a guest and make sure everything was ok. Look out for Juan and Martha, they will NOT leave you alone. We would actually take the outside stairs, instead of going through the lobby to avoid them! To sum it up, the hotel offerings are average...if you're looking for an ultimate vacation, look elsewhere.

“Great for kids and families with kids”

Piramides Cancun Beach Resort

This place is perfect for young adults on a budget and families with kids...the admiral suites are huge with separate rooms (one with two queens, another with a pull down bed) and huge balconies, 6 can sleep comfortably, and if you have that many to a room, the resort a serious bargain. If you're a couple looking for a quite, romantic getaway, this isn't the place.

The food at the buffet is very good and plentiful, not gourmet by any means, but good. The restaurant (not buffet) requires reservations at night and is for guests over 12 years old. It has a great appetizer bar, but the main courses were disappointing. The beachfront is huge and the ocean is great. The mall across the street has plenty of shopping and other places to eat.

The main problem here is with the Royal Holiday salespeople. They act and look like front desk attendants, but if you book this hotel through a travel agency or expedia, etc, you get a different colored wristband than those that book through Royal, and they will accost you for your entire trip until you agree to sit down for an hour and half "information seminar". I imagine they're selling memberships to their member resorts, we had to tell them no, we're not interested, at least 30 times, and we were only there for 4 days. It got to the point where we didn't want to walk through the lobby anymore...that was a serious nuisance considering we were on vacation to get away from things just like that. The beautiful beach, huge room and warm ocean made up for it though...

“A Great Experience!”

My parents just came back from the Piramides resort, and they loved it. They returned smiling and noticeably sun-burnt, which was quite amusing for me. But I'm getting off track. I was a bit nervous after reading the reviews for this hotel--there seemed to be a number of dissatisfied customers. But my parents reported that they had a wonderful time there. The beach, as some others have mentioned, is huge and beautiful, and my parents also mentioned that the pool is very nice, and were pleased that one of the pools was only for adults. They were very satisfied with the food there, and the all-inclusive factor definitely earned a thumbs up. My father reported to have scarfed down one too many desserts and pina coladas, but I don't think he regretted it too much. My mother was happy that there was a large assortment of healthy food to choose from such as fresh fruits, greens, and fish. Note that this is not a completely five-star dining experience--it's not extremely fancy with a lot of extravagance, although the food is very good, and the all-inclusive factor made it that much better. But that is one thing to note about the Hotel Piramides: it is not for the pickiest of vacationers. While a very nice hotel, if you need to be in the lap of luxury at a five-star resort, look elsewhere. However, note that my parents vacation only at luxury hotels, and this definitely suited their standards. Their room was also nice; no complaints there. The gym was reportedly fantastic, although there is a five-dollar charge for every use. The hotel is in the main hotel district of Cancun, with a Sheraton resort next-door and great shopping just across the street, so the hotel is definitely not in the middle of nowhere. Interestingly, they said that a significant amount of vacationers at the Hotel Piramides are Mexican, which created an unique cultural experience they haven't had at other hotels in Mexico. A lot of the food is traditional Mexican food, which they enjoyed, although there is plenty of American-style food to choose from.

Overall, this is a great place to vacation, and highly recommended.
