“Surprised at service!”

Stayed 4/19to 4/24 2008 My wife booked this trip after getting a Fax at work! The deal looked good and since it was an all inclusive it seemed the thing to do! Teh reviews on line were negative and scathing about the Sales pitch you had to do for the timeshare/club! I felt the room was clean and comfortable, the food was good although when they make a buffet for that many people it is not perfect, but it was good. We arrived late (9:00pm local and checked in , got our room, the bell staff and resort concierge were polite, and accomadating,( couple of comp beverages while we waited our turn to Check in). The sales pitch the next daywith tour(mandatory) was not as bad as many I have sat through, even though when the salesman is told no, they refer to a manager and even Sr. sales manager to see if they can sell. They only did the job they are there for , if you are nieve enough to think they will not push then stay home!
Very sweet and friendly people all over the property and very very polite!
Even though we did not buy I would stay there again if the deal was right!!!
Watch out for the snorkling packages! They dont let you snorkle only drift in a life jacket while being baby sat by "guides"

“Great Time at the Susent Royal!”

We came here because my dad owned timeshare - and I dont think I'll ever want to stay anywhere else. We came here in 2005 and 2007... and hopefully gong again in 2009!

The rooms could use some updating... and the sofa bed is REALLY uncomfortable to sleep on. (If you were planning on having people sleep on the sofa bed, bring an air mattress to put on top).

The food that is inclusive is just okay. And the drinks are a bit watered down. My suggestion is to do maybe 1-2 days of all inclusive and go out the rest of the time. Use your days when you know all you want to do is relax. AND - note that if you buy multiple days - they have to be back to back! (We made the mistake of thinking we can pick our 2 days... so our 2nd all-inclusive day got used up without us knowing!)

Otherwise, it really is the best location in Cancun. The water is absolutely amazing and the sand is soft! There's no seaweed or rocks in site and the current isn't dangerous like some of the nearby resorts. The water really does look like bath water!

The staff is incredibly friendly and is always willing to help you find whatever you are looking for. They must have wrote the book on good customer service.

I was never pressured in buying timeshare (but maybe bc my bracelet showed that we already had some?).

really dont know where to start, we arrived after stayyin a week down in the riveria maya at a top of the line resort. we were given a quick tour of main lobby area upon arrival and booked a time for our time share appointment, bell boy escorted us to our room #504. upon entering noticed right away a very musty stale smell so we opened the sliding doors right away. the bell boy noticed right away that we didnt have the room serviced binder (amenities binder) in the room so he said he was going to get one for us tipped him 5 bucks (50 pesos) and thanked him, WELL it goes down hill from here on in. this was an all- inclusive package we got for 6 days 5 nights for 756 usd hotel only no airfare. we notice that their idea of all-inclusive for YOUR ROOM consists of the following your frig is stocked once a day with 4 beer, 4 pop 4 water 3 juice 1 small bag of chips and a bag of peanuts NO hard liquor at all. we change and proceed down to the pool and beach area. we get a couple of mai tais at the bar and settle down at the beach by the stairs. a waiter happens by and we order 2 more drinks and i tip him 50 pesos telling him that there is more tip money to come if we get good service well we dont see him for almost an hour and i had already gone up in the mean time to get more drinks. unlike the states or canada where you tip after you have had the service i tipped right away to get the service well that system didnt work at this resort. during our stay i didnt see anyone tip so that might explain the problem. so after a couple of hours down at he beach and by the pool oh one more thing we stayyed for a week in the riveria maya like we said before arriving at his place and never encounted any people that were as drunk or loud as the people that we witnessed at the pool here. we were really shocked that people would take their children with them and behave in such a manner.so up to the room we go, the smell in the room has sort of gone away. noticed that the room service binder was still not there so decided to phone down. phoned room service phone rang about 10 times no answer i hang up. phone reception area explain problem they transfer me to room service rings about 10 times i hang up again.. by this time im not happy but figure its no big deal we are not going to use the room service feature much anyway during our stay.we checked out their dinner theater it was a nice show met some members there but they ran out of food, we did eat but there wasnt much to select from and the members we were with were not happy either, so we never went to another show again even though they have a show going every night. the next day went to time- share speil had a very nice, pleasant and very beautiful women trying to sell us the time share (she was from moscow) just over 3 hours with this and we didnt buy but did notice a lot of people did.so off to the pool and beach which is the best selling point we found for this resort and the only thing it has going for it. that night we wanted some ice so i proceed to wander around our floor looking for it and guess what there is none so we HAVE to order room service. this time i do get through after a few rings but i am told its going to be about a half hour wait for the ice. i go down and tell the guy that this is pretty sad service and we still dont have the room service binder they can bring it up with the ice. here in a nutshell is what u get: a all-inclusive bracelet that entitles you to all the food and drinks you want, they have 2 restaurants and 1 snack bar the food is average they have 2 bars one by the pool and one in the lobby both are extremly small the bar in the lobby has only 5 seats around it though there is a lot of sofas in the lobby area but it dont open until around 5;00 pm. of all the goodies they tell you on the web site that you will be receiving we only got 30 bucks each on the spa and 1 steak and lobster dinner thats it (ride to and from airport also) if you want to go down and visit cancun on the cheap this is the place for you . we in the future will pay more and stick to the 4 0r 5 star hotels not the 2 or 3 type like this one. one more thing before i end this rant the beds are 3/4 size not double

“Don't buy the timeshare and if you do watch out if you cancel”

Sunset Royal Cancun Resort

We didn't actually stay at the Sunset Royal, but chose to visit their site to see their timeshare program. A friend and I decided to purchase, but realized within two days that we were pressured into the sale and we decided to cancel our timeshare. This is allowed per the contract, so we returned to the Sunset Royal on two days after signing and provided a letter of cancellation. We gave the document to Mr. Manuel Novelo and were told they would give the cancellation to their legal department. Now we are being told they never recieved the letter and we will be held to the contract. We feel we were treated terribly and would like to warn other travelers about this resort.

“Royal Sunset”

We stayed at the Royal Sunset, Mar 7 -14/08. This was our 3rd visit there. The hotel is average; the pool area nice, but small. There are no umbrellas or palapas on the beach. The service is excellent in all cases. The food is average. Breakfast and lunch was o.k,, but dinners became a challenge after a few days. You can eat only once in the a la carte restaurants (2). After that, it's buffet, and they are mediocre at best. Be careful of the "all inclusive" charge - some people paid as little as $70.00 USD per person/per day, but we paid $100.00 per person/day. We're still "fighting it out" with the Sunset. Also, if you request "top name" alcohol, you'll get it. Location of the property is convenient to malls and clubs, etc. For a nice meal away from the Sunset, our favourite is La Dolce Vita. There are two locations of this restaurant and both are excellent.
