We arrived on sunday june 29, 2008 and left on Sunday july 6th. There were two of us, myself and my girlfriend. I hate to complain but we found that the hotel lobby and some other parts of the hotel had a very foul sewer gas smell. Also the service at the restaurants on the resort was far from acceptable most of the time, we did have a few meals that service was ok, but more times than not we would stand and wait to be seated for 10 mins plus with no one in front of us. Then once we were seated we would have to flag someone over to take a drink order usually after 5 more mins, then again to get our meal ordered. It was a chore to get waited on for the most part. And I have to say the food was terrible for the most part and I will usually eat anything. So we found ourselves leaving the resort for most everymeal, making the all-inclusive worthless. And we did try every resturant on the resort. Service was ok at the buffet but the food was the worst. Service was also ok at the resturant that you had to make a reservation for but again the food was not good at all. We were given a complimentary bottle of champange the first day, we did not drink it the first night and noticed that the maid took it back while cleaning the room the next day. I am not trying to be ignorant at all there were several very good personell on staff in the hotel itself but the service at the resturants was terrible. And something definately needs to be done about he sewer gas smell in the hotel, espically the lobby area. Also the water in the shower was yellow and there was no comfortable temperature setting to be found in the shower as well it was either freezing or scalding hot, no matter how you tried to mix hot and cold, the slightest turn of the knob went from one extreme to the next. Again I hate to leave a bad review but we were definatley dissapionted nd do not plan to come back nor will we ever reccomend anyone to stay with Oasis Viva. Also a suggestion would be to supply bottled water for you guests in their rooms we spent ove $100 on water just to keep from being dehydrated.

I have written many hotel reviews and have always pointed out the positive in each hotel. My husband and I travel often. I can honestly say this is one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in. The beach is beautiful with many chairs and umbrellas for all. The landscaping is fantastic with colorful flowers, nicely cut grass, and clean on the outside. I stayed in the New Tower. Our air conditioner did not work and I was really hot the entire three nights of our stay. There was a mini fridge but it did not work. The food was very bad, and I mean bad. Cattle are not raised the same in Mexico as in the US and have a strong taste and are very tough. No amount of steak sauce or catsup could hide the bad taste. Honestly, the food was not good. I am not a picky eater and I had a hard time finding anything that tasted good. I went to order a drink from the bar and saw the bartender dipping the glasses in a bucket of soapy water then dipping them in a bucket of clear water then filling drinks. I am not a germ-a-phobic but felt ill thinking of what was on the glasses. The second night we were there a pipe broke in the room next to ours and filled the hallway and our room with about two inches of water. I felt so sorry for the workers trying to clean up the mess. We had to wait for hours to get back into our room. The hotel was full so we could not move to another room. Honestly, if you are only going for the beach this is a fine place. If you are going for the food and nice room this is not the place to go. We were only there for 3 nights and the beach was what we wanted. Please don't spend your hard earned money and days off from work expecting very much as you will be disappointed. Spend a few more dollars and get something nicer. We stayed at the Riu three doors down two years ago and it was fantastic. Above all, make the best of what you have. If you decide to stay here and are not pleased you will know for your next trip.

My boyfrind and I are in our mid twenties and had a great time here. This hotel was close to the main party scene of Cancun. Our room was clean and had a great view of the ocean. We experienced no problems with the staff while we were there. The food at the buffets definitly could have been better but i'm used to that since not many hotels can put out an excellent buffet. We stuck with omelettes everyday for breakfast and sampled the different offerings for dinner. We didn't get a chance to make reservations at any of the in house resturants. We went the second week of April and the weather was great and it wasn't that crowded. Beach was very clean and there weren't that many rocks like others have said. We never had trouble getting a chair to sit on the beach. The pool chairs were more likely to fill up before the beach chairs. We didn't get sick and we drank plenty of their mixed frozen drinks. All in all it was a great relaxing trip. We had no complaints. We paid in advance for the shuttle bus to take us from the airport to the hotel and back when we left. This was the easiest and best thing to do so we didn't have to be bother with takinga cab.

My husband and I just came back, the only thing that save this trip was the beautiful beach. The rooms are Ok, no mini bar, the ceilling was leeking and te t.v was brooken. it took 2 days for them to give us a "new tv", the foof is terrible, the restaurants are not good,we went to the Grand (which is just an extencion of te Viva, service ,what service?, overall, we don't recomend this hotel at all, by the way, it is not our first trip to cancun, we go to Mexico every year to different places and stay in othre hotels, so we know what we are talking about.

I would love to write an actual review about this hotel, but when I arrived they took forever to even acknowledge the fact that I was even standing at the front desk. The lobby was full of angry people waiting for rooms. When they finally said something they told us that they were moving us to another hotel because "of the problems we are having". Great explanation. They offered us the Grand Oasis Playa down on the opposite side of Cancun, but the reason we had originally chosen the Oasis Viva is because we wanted to stay in the central Cancun hotel zone. The beaches at the Viva are much quieter too than they are down on the other end. So, we were disappointed. Instead of the Grand Oasis Playa we chose the Grand Oasis Cancun, which is located closer to the central hotel zone. That hotel sucked!!! Read my review on it to hear all the details. I'm sure when they are done at the Viva with all of the construction it will calm down, but for now, expect to be moved if you can't check in early. Boo.
