“Stay Home!”

Wyndham Cozumel Resort & Spa

Let me start by saying that I have been to Mexico 5 times; each time I have stayed in an all-inclusive resort. I do not expect gourmet food, I do not expect to be waited on "hand and foot"... I demand, however, edible food, fresh cold water and that my vacation not end with a wish that I had stayed home!

The resort staff actually seemed surprised that guests showed up and wanted food, drinks, towels etc. They ran out of basic necessities (ie fresh water!); the buffet food was recycled, day to day, meal to meal. (ie breakfast potatoes showed up at dinner). Worst of all, the food, once gone, was not replenished. Show up for dinner after 7 pm and you are out of luck! Once a dish was gone, if it was replaced at all, it was replaced by only a tray of warm tortillas, as a "place holder". Salad/fruit bars were empty.... a pat of butter became a luxury!

Forget getting a drink -- soda, alcohol or water-- bar lines were 10 - 15 people deep all the time, with ONE bartender at the ONE bar. They actually RAN OUT OF TEQULIA AND BEER! The swim up bar is for CHILDREN ONLY, and that bar ran out of milk for the shakes!

That Wyndam would take my vacation dollars and provide such poor service, food and accomodations is actually insulting and, compared to what the represent on the website, fraudulent!

Stay home!!

“STAY AWAY!!! Worst vacation ever!”

Wyndham Cozumel Resort & Spa

We booked this trip through Apple Vacations because we have had several excellent vacations (including Mexico 4 times) with them. We are very well traveled and understand that things are almost never perfect, no matter where you go.

People looking at the Wyndham Cozumel website should beware. There are two resorts at this location. Sabores is the adults-only resort and the photos and amenities listed on the website pertain to that area. People staying at the main resort are barred from Sabores.

This Wyndham resort can only be described as HORRENDOUS! These were a few of the problems:

- we checked in and were told we could not get a second room key until the next day

- the Wyndham Cozumel website says that there is a swim-up bar. They don't tell you that it is actually in the childrens' pool (2 feet of water throughout) and that the only available drinks are sodas and smoothies. They simply refused to supply liquor to that bar, although there were rarely more than 4 or 5 kids in the pool. The majority of the people there were adults who could not find lounge chairs at the main pool. (Sabores has the adult swim-up bar)

- the "beach bar" was the only place to get beer or liquor and there was ALWAYS a line of 10 - 20 people waiting on line there

- the only available drinking water was from a single water cooler at the beach bar. Unfortunately, the "cooler" portion was not hooked up. The water was warm because it sat in the sun all day. We were forced to buy water and Gatorade from the store at the resort.

- every day by approximately 1:00 pm, the bar ran out of items like beer, rum and tequila. It should be noted that there is a tequila store at the resort, but I guess Wyndham didn't want to pay their steep prices to re-stock the bar.

- no one is available to take drink orders at the pool or beach

- the food at the buffet was inedible most days and when it was ok, they simply ran out of food. Breakfast started at 7 or 8, but most of the items were gone by 9 (breakfast ends at 11). We eat just about anything, but even items like pancakes were scarce. They also ran out of things like butter and syrup almost every day.

- the snack bar generally had a line of 10 - 20 people waiting for burgers, hot dogs, etc. The other guests we spoke with indicated that they could not eat the buffet food and simply waited for the snack bar to open around noon. Just about every day they ran out of food at approximately 2:00, so anyone who was not part of the initial rush did not eat.

- Roberto's & Mosaic, two of the restaurants where you need reservations, were fine. The third, Vista del Mar, was infested with biting bugs and we ended up walking out after not seeing a waiter for 30 mins.

- the service staff worked their tails off, but there were not nearly enough of them. There was absolutely no management or administrative staff to be found.

- the was a band at the pool one night, but otherwise, there was very limited evening entertainment

Overall, this vacation consisted of waiting on lines and being frustrated/disgusted.

If anyone from Wyndham happens to read this, they should know that we were asked by the New York State Bar Association to evaluate this resort (since we were going there anyway) as a possible conference location. There is ABSOLUTELY NO WAY that we would make a positive recommendation to the Bar Association after our experience.

“VACATIONERS BEWARE!!!!!!!!!”

Wyndham Cozumel Resort & Spa

My boyfriend and I just returned from our first real vacation in years. We chose this hotel due to the internet feedback. Boy, were we wrong!!!! After paying over the phone for round trip taxi or shuttle service to and from the airport, we got there and were made to pay AGAIN. Okay so no big deal. The website also insinuates that you will have nice rooms and several bars to choose from. Wrong again. Our room was okay, the bathroom counters were broken and the floors were hosed off during room service. The shower would just stop for no reason then when the water returns it's either super cold or blistering hot!!! We had a hug variety of TWO bars to get drinks from and one was the kiddie pool area (no drinks till after 4pm). The one bar we could get to regularly had a limited selection of alcohol. The beaches are beautiful - but any hotel in cozumel has them!! I went downstairs to purchase a phone card to call home with, we were told we did not need one then were given the number to dial from the hotel phone. No one tells us until checkout that there was $170 worth of phone calls to pay for. When I refused to pay on grounds that we were NEVER told that it would cost $10 per minute, I was told we could not leave the hotel!! We waited two hours to get a manager to speak to us. This all after we spent well over $3000 for trip expenses and activites booked through the hotel!! If you are going to stay here - BEWARE !!!! For your sake double check everything!!!!!

“Nice Resort- Especially for the rates I found”

This was my first trip to Cozumel, other than as a port of call on a cruise. We had 2 adults and 2 teenagers in a double bed ocean front room. Ha plenty of room to manuever around the room, even with all of our stuff. Room has a vaulted thatched roof. I loved it. We could throw a rock in the water from our balcony. The room was spacious for a standard room. Had to ask for extra blankets at night as it got cold. Had to keep the drapes pulled during the day to keep the room cool. No problems with the room at all. The grounds I thought were very well kept and very pretty. The staff was friendly. I had done alot of research and emailed the hotel about a week before we went and made reservations for dinner every evening at the different restaurants. The food was good and very well presented. Service does take a while here, but remember your in Mexico, on their time. The buffet restaurant has a chef that will cook made to order omelets. And yes, there were some lines, there and at the bar, usually not too bad, maybe 4 or 5 people at the most at times. I just got two doubles at a time. If you look around, these people are working very hard and seem to have more than one job at the resort. The beach was murky but we saw all kinds of things snorkeling out there, actually more than we did on our snorkel tours we paid for. Do take water shoes, cause you cant find them anywhere on the island cheaper than $30-$40, other than the local supermarket at $15 (limited supply though). Walked down to San Fransisco beach and did a discover scuba tour. Kinda scarey but fun. Will do it again. There is an office at the Wyndham up past the souvenir shop where you can book tours cheaper than at the guest services desk, but would never know it was there if someone hadnt told me. I paid $1218 for this trip for 2 adults and 2 teenagers for 6 nts. I had purchased one of those thick "Entertainment" coupon books. These books used to have a "trip rewards" discounted hotel membership that came with them, now known as the Wyndham Rewards program. You get a better discount with this than AAA, govt, or anything else they offer. No other comparable resort could match this price. And I obsessed over it for awhile. So, if you are uptight and demand service immediately, probably not the place for you, but if your looking for a good price, nice resort, check this one out. Its a $15 cab ride to town one way for 4, by the way.
Just had to put my two cents in.... and then some, I guess.

It was bad from the start.
It took one hour to get us checked in because they were trying to sell everyone. The service was terrible and the staff was rude.
On vacation you should get served not have to get it yourself everytime. The food was ok and the room service was worst.
No cable TV and the VCR did not work.
If you are thinking of staying here I would think again.
Look for another option.
