“Sabor is AWFUL!”

Wyndham Cozumel Resort & Spa

You should know that I WOULD NOT WASTE MY TIME telling you this if I wasn't so passionate about this. Our group had an awful experience and another group of friends just got back and confirmed what I already knew...THIS PLACE IS BAD! The total number of people in both of the groups I'm referring to equals 36 people!!! If you think that is just a fluke that both groups had a bad experience then consider this: We went a year ago and our friends got back last weekend (July 08). A fluke? NO WAY!
Let me start by saying this so I can earn some credibility and hopefully save you from an awful, horrible vacation:
I have traveled extensively in Mexico. I usually get a great deal and that's how I end up going. So, I am by NO means a spoiled, rich, picky traveler. I am not high maintenance whatsoever! I am a polite traveler. Okay, here goes...

Me and 7 of my friends (guys/girls with no kids with us) arrived at the Reef Club and thought, "Looks great! Can't wait to go have a drink at the bar!!" Got to the bar and waited, waited, waited (and watched as flies at the outside bar landed on every possible surface of the liquor bottles!) and finally got a disgusting drink. Didn't worry though, "Maybe it's just a bad bartender." Tried a different bartender, "Nope, just bad...period." Waited for some food....waited, waited...starving....FINALLY got the food and it was ok. Drank, ate, relaxed with friends for a few hours. Was totally relaxed until the guy with the microphone brought all the kids to the main pool to play Musical Chairs. He was just about screaming into the microphone and the kids were screaming and the music was blaring. I was just trying to lay out by the pool and relax. (I used to be a teacher and I love children, but this was absolutely obnoxious!!!!!!!!) This went on for an hour. I couldn't hear my friend that was sitting next to me! We looked at each other and realized we were in hell. I felt like I was at a YMCA kids camp, not vacation. We didn't even know there was an Adult-only section called Sabor, but we knew we had to get there and fast. Talked to 3 different people at the reservation desk. "Are there ANY openings in the Sabor part?" We heard 3 different answers. "How much is it to get into the Sabor part?" We heard 3 different answers. "Can we talk to a Manager about this?" The manager was rude to us and made us almost have to beg him to find a place for us in the Adult only section. Got over there and thought we had found Utopia....WRONG!!! It is much quieter and much more relaxing, don't get me wrong, but the staff treats you like it is an absolute burden to help you with anything! The swim up bar was fun (get drunk to forget how bad this place is!) but only because we were drinking and talking to all the other people staying at Sabor. I promise you that every other couple/group we talked to while we were in the pool together said they would NEVER come back. These were complete strangers...all saying, "This service is off the charts BAD!!!" Get this: One of the groups we were talking to said they went to go get something from their hotel room, walked in, and one of the hotel employees was USING their bathroom. And I mean USING. That is unacceptable. Another example, our group got a reservation one of the restaurants in the Sabor section. 2 of the guys had nice sandals on. The Sabor manager told them they couldn't come in. Refused service to them like we were at a 5 star resort!!! The guys went to their room and put on a pair of socks with their sandals and then were deemed good enough to go inside. Are you kidding me??? It's Mexico in the summertime! Who the heck brings closed-toed shoes to a Mexican beach vacation?! If you make a reservation at this hotel after reading this and the other bad reviews, you really are making a mistake. Use your vacation days wisely and go somewhere else.

“Great Room”

Myself, Husband, 3 year old son, 2 cousins and cousins 5 year old daughter all just got back from a 4 day stay July 4-7 at the Wyndham. I will start from the beginning.

Check-in was pretty smooth, our rooms were not ready and we were told to come back in about 30 minutes, we were early being 2:00 so we went to the buffet to grab a bite to eat and then went to check back and get our rooms. They were ready. We booked the Oceanfront rooms and definitely were not disappointed with these! We walked right off the balcony to sand and then right to water, I definitely recommend upgrading and spending the little extra, it will be well worth your trip. Our room was clean, we never had any issues with the room. Water pressure and temperature of the water was fine unlike some of the reviews I had read. Everything worked fine and believe me the air worked great! Our room would be like an ice box when we would come in from swimming and also the room had a fan which was nice. Another nice thing was the toiletries were bath and body works, no big deal but a nice touch.

Now onto the food. IF you are bringing children, be prepared that they do not have much for them to eat. The snack bar has limited hours and if you are out and about you will miss them being open, same goes for the kids bar with milk shakes and smoothies and even if they are at the bar they never seem to have what they need to go ahead and make you what you want, The kids had to wait numerous times for things and then when the bar finally opened they would be swarmed cause of all the kids waiting. The buffet had awesome grilled chicken and steak (fajita type) with all the fixins', This definitely was good because we got our son to eat it and he just doesn't eat meat like that. However not much choice on the buffet for kids. Very tough to satisfy them. On our last night we went to Robertos. We made reservations as soon as we arrived to the hotel. Robertos was all we could get reservations for ( we were told all others were booked, as in other reviews we read). Robertos had great food, so much to choose from on the menu we ordered multiple entrees! They kinda looked at us like we hadnt eaten in weeks but gladly brought them to us. The food was marvelous. We got dessert , not so great. None of us even could finish that except for the ice cream the kids got. But all in all that was well worth it, it was great. Keep in mind even though the resort is all inclusive, if you want steak or lobster, you must pay for it at Robertos and from what I understand at the other restaraunts as well.

The hotel does not have a swim up bar, nor wait staff to bring your drinks, so each time you want a drink you must get out, wait in line and get your drink. That was a downside but not a vacation killer since we did have kids with us, we didn't drink a whole lot. The drinks were good and not good, depended who made them. Sometimes you couldn't even taste any alcohol.

The pools were nice and not ever super crowded, we even swam in the family pool for about 2 hours one day just us 6. That was really nice. But that pool never did really get crowded.

The ocean is rocky as stated by everyone else. We went to walmart and bought some cheap shoes to wear in the ocean which worked great. There were some really pretty fish right on the beach of the hotel but it definitely would be difficult to walk out without shoes. The water is gorgeous and the hotel has snorkel gear you can check out and use and also they have the hobie boats you can ride out and all of that is included.

All in all we had a great time. The hotel had some aspects that we have not been used to from other all inclusive reports. Some of the staff is on top of things and other could care less if you have a drink or not. But for the price and the length of the stay we had a great time. Oh also from driving into town and passing other hotels, it looked as if the Wyndham had the greatest beach of all the hotels. I could go on and on but I hope this helps.

“Lies, Lies and more Lies. If you like flies in your food you'll be happy”

I love to scuba dive and a group of 18 mostly couples booked 5 days at the Wyndham Cozumel Resort & Spa. All inclusive with three days of diving (we paid extra for more (only 2 of the 11 dives were of medium quality... we kept hoping). Should I start at how when we showed up at the hotel they didn't have rooms ready for us and didn't know when they would. Should I mention the flies around the food. Or the extremely drunk deck hand on the night dive. Or the Wyndham time share salesman that tried to steal $35 from us. Oh if you like no pool towels and only two bathroom towels in your room you'll love it. Its a great place to lose weight because if you want a drink (even water) its a 30 minute wait. I sent the Wyndham company a letter detailing our experience and they replied it was a franchise and they are in no way responsible for how bad our experience was. The hotel manger did say Sorry. But nothing else. Our letter was actually 3 pages long and we get a Sorry. I will avoid the Wyndham chain completely. They don't care except they got my money. Avoid this place. Oh yeah the food was terrible besides the flies.

“Not a Trip for the Meek”

Wyndham Cozumel Resort & Spa

Positives - Our vacation at the Aura Wyndham Resort All Inclusive Adults Only in Cozumel was excellent. The service, food, and resort were wonderful. I would not recommend booking in any other part of this hotel if you are on a romantic vacation. I also recommend tipping for service. The snorkeing and diving were spectacular if you take a boat out to the reef. The ferry to Playa Del Carmen and the visit to the Mayan Ruins in Tulum were well worth it.

Negatives - Watch out for the condo time share salespeople at the airport. Also got extremely sick after eating at a restaurant called Coconuts. Might want to have plenty of money since ATM machines are hard to come by. Also be careful if you rent a car and make sure you have both collision and liability coverage when driving in town. We had a few close encounters and I am sure it would have been determined that we were at fault since we are not locals. Never travel alone in this country and make sure if you have children they are not wondering off into risky situations.

“clean hotel, however there was a total lack of ammenities.”

I just returned from a 5 day stay (6/25 to 6/30). I could'nt ask for a cleaner hotel, howvever, beware of the following:

1. No room service. After 10pm good luck finding somthing to eat. All-inclusive was not worth it!

2. The quality of the food was horriable. In the morning eat as much as possible, cause this is the only decent meal of the day. You will be informed that reservations are needed for the returaunts in the hotel. This is non-sense, you wll see as I did that they are never full and the food is nothing to brag about. The buffet food was unidentifiable.

3. The line at the bar (Pool or Beach) is out of control. Somtimes it could turn into a 30 minute wait.

4. The room was very small, I was lucky to be on the 3rd floor and have a high ceiling. No ammenities in the rooms. You better speak spanish if you want to watch TV.

5. Wireless internet access was only available in the front lobby and crashed for hours at a time.

6. This is very important. Do not get suckered into a time share presentation. This people are snakes and once they got you, half your day is gone and you will be disgusted by their sales tactics. These snakes are everywhere, hotel, airport (where they got me), and in the shopping area.

I can not take away from the fact that this was a clean hotel. However, it appears that due to the crashing of the American economy and the rising costs of oil, services have been cut and hotels are trying to save a buck at the travelers expenece.

Do yourself a favor, rent a car prior to your arrival and drive to what ever tour you want to take, you will save a ton of money. They better beaches are on the oppisite side of the island. The hotel beach was very rocky.

Good Luck
